    Pihak Polis Siasat Bantahan Dalam MRT Yang Berlalu Pada Sabtu Lalu

    Aduan polis sudah dibuat terhadap bantahan yang diadakan di dalam kereta api pada hari Sabtu (3 Jun) dan pihak polis mengesahkan bahawa ia sedang menyiasat aduan tersebut.

    Bantahan itu diadakan bagi menentang penahanan yang berlaku 30 tahun lalu di bawah Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri (ISA).

    Pada Mei 1987, 22 orang ditahan di bawah Operasi Spectrum dan dituduh terlibat dengan pakatan Marxis untuk mewujudkan sebuah negara komunis.

    Menyusuli pelancaran sebuah buku pada bulan lalu oleh bekas tahanan bagi menandakan ulang tahun penahanan mereka, para aktivis mengadakan bantahan secara aman di Laluan Utara-Selatan dengan menutup mata mereka dengan kain sambil memegang buku “1987: Singapore’s Marxist Conspiracy 30 years on”.

    Aktivis sosial Jolovan Wham turut mengongsi gambar-gambar mengenai bantahan itu di Facebooknya, yang kini tersebar online.

    Pihak polis menyatakan,” Sesiapa yang mempunyai sebarang maklumat boleh menghantarkannya online di www.police.gov.sg/iwitness. Semua maklumat akan dirahsiakan.”

    Hijab Image Vandalised With Word “Terrorist” At Site Of Upcoming Marine Parade MRT Station

    A police report was made after the word “terrorist” appeared on an illustration of a Muslim woman wearing a hijab, which was part of the artwork decorating a hoarding at the site of the upcoming Marine Parade MRT station.

    Mr Haikal Latiff, 26, told The New Paper that he was on the pedestrian walkway beside Parc Seabreeze condominium in Joo Chiat Road at 10pm on Thursday when he noticed the word.

    The undergraduate, who had tweeted a photo of it, said: “My girlfriend and I took it personally because as Muslims, we felt that this was uncalled for.”

    When contacted, the Land Transport Authority said the contractor had made a police report yesterday afternoon.

    The police said investigations are ongoing.

    TNP understands that the word was written on a piece of paper with an adhesive back and stuck on the hijab.

    The Marine Parade station is part of the Thomson-East Coast Line and is expected to be ready in 2023.

    Passers-by TNP spoke to yesterday did not notice it until it was pointed out.

    Secondary student April Panton, 15, said: “I have a lot of Muslim friends and I do not think they deserve to be treated like this.”

    Tourist Joanna Niemiro, 27, who arrived here on Thursday, was shocked as she had heard that Singapore is a multiracial country.

    The Polish graphic designer said: “I am quite disgusted by it. This is definitely not art. Anyone can be a terrorist, and it should not be associated with any religion.”

    Perak Woman Buys Toys Set For Son, Shocked To Find Terrorist Figures

    A woman who bought a building blocks toy set for her son here was shocked to discover that it contained elements that are offensive to Muslims.

    40-year-old Mahnun Mat Isa, a teacher, said she was surprised to find the word ”Allah” and ”Muhammad” on a banner held by a ”terrorist-like” character in the game set.

    “What’s more shocking is that the terrorist character (is wearing) an (Islamic turban),” she said

    Mahnun had bought the toy set at a shop in Taiping and the product was made in China.

    “I came to know about it when my son, who was playing with the toy, showed me the ‘terrorist’ character holding a banner which displayed the words ‘Allah’ and ‘Muhammad’,” she told reporters here yesterday.

    Mahnun said she immediately lodged a police report and informed the Perak Islamic Religious Council (Maipk) in Parit Buntar on May 25.

    PE 2017: Fret Not, Dr Tan Cheng Bock’s Case Is Not Yet Over

    Court hearing set for 29 June 2017

    On 31 May 2017, the Elections Department announced that PE 2017 is a reserved election and that application forms for the Certificate of Eligibility can be obtained from the Elections Department from 1 Jun 2017 onwards.

    Following this news, many people have asked me whether my case is over. The answer is “Not yet.” To recap, on 5 May 2017, I applied to Court to determine whether the legislation that specified President Wee Kim Wee’s term of office as the first term to be counted was unconstitutional.( refer 8th May post) The case will be heard in Court on 29th June 2017.

    Let me take this opportunity to thank many Singaporeans from all walks of life, young and old, for your well wishes and encouragement. I am deeply touched by your heart warming and overwhelming show of support. Thank you.

    Khan Osman Sulaiman: Reserved Elected Presidency Is Fundamentally Flawed

    Im not that fired up on the upcoming Presidential Election. I know some of my friends are grateful that we now can have a Malay President after 50 years. We now can see photos of a Malay President and a Malay First Lady in every government buildings.

    Let’s not miss the forest for the trees.

    There are fundamental issues that need to be addressed with regards to reserving the presidential election for Malay candidates.

    1. This gov has put out of reach the aspirations of Singaporeans from being the president. It has implemented some strict conditions where most probably only the top 1% of the population is eligible, perpetuating an elitist society

    2. It has made changes to the President’s role that there is not much the president can decide on its own discretion. Council of Presidential Advisers (CPA) can override the President. Parliament can override the President. President to consult CPA. In the end, the President is a ‘lame-duck’

    3. Reserving this presidential election for Malay candidates posed a few problems. It gives out the notion that the Malays cannot stand on its own merits and win the election fair and square.

    It is condescending and reek of tokenism when at the same breadth, minorities are not allowed to assume the position of Prime Minister

    4. It goes against the grain of meritocracy. It places the Malay community as a pawn in a chess game. To be used only when needed.

    If the above points cannot be seen by those rejoicing for joy on the prospect of getting a Malay President, then as a whole, we deserve to be minions.
