  • PAP Wrong, Malays Want To See Malay/Muslim Prime Minister, Not President

PAP Wrong, Malays Want To See Malay/Muslim Prime Minister, Not President

All of a sudden you hear PAP harping on the importance of having minority representation in the elected presidency. All of a sudden, symbolism is important and meritocracy is not. Hello you think we all bodoh or what? So which is which?

Seriously who cares about a token President? The real measure of progress is when a Malay/Muslim finally becomes a PM or becomes a Minster of Foreign Affairs or Minister of Defence.

Will that day come? They will tell you meritocracy is important and we cannot have affirmative action because it undermines the progress of the community.

PAP is actually confused and making citizens more confused.

We have enough confidence in our community to produce quality candidates who would become PM without any need for affirmative action. Will that candidate ever be given a chance?

Dr Tan Cheng Bock: I Agree With Lee Hsien Loong On The Qualities Of Ideal Candidate

Last night PM Lee was asked this question

Q: Who would be the ideal candidate for you for the next Elected President?

PM Lee: Somebody who can identify with all Singaporeans, whom all Singaporeans will look up to, respect, and at the same time, have the experience and the weight and the judgement to look at what the Government is putting up to them, and to say yes, or no, depending on whether or not it is the wise thing to do. You need the experience, you need the personality.

You also need that trust which people must build up in you, so when you say, I have made this decision after consulting my conscience and consulting wise people, it carries weight and people respect you and they feel proud to be Singaporean. That’s what we want.

I am in full agreement with PM.

  • Indonesia Arrests Another Suspect In Batam Attack Plot: Report

Indonesia Arrests Another Suspect In Batam Attack Plot: Report

Indonesia has arrested another terror suspect in Batam for allegedly plotting to attack Marina Bay in Singapore, the Antara News Agency reported on Sunday (Sep 4).

The suspect, a 24-year-old unemployed man identified only by the initials LH, was arrested by counter-terrorist personnel at a cyber cafe in Batu Aji, Batam, on Saturday, police spokesman Agus Rianto was quoted as saying.

The man is believed to be part of the KGR@Katibah GR, a group headed by Gigih Rahmat Dewa, who is alleged to be behind the plot to attack Marina Bay from Batam, which is just a short distance across the Singapore Strait. The group is said to have links to Syria-based Islamic State (IS) militant Bahrun Naim, who has encouraged attacks on Singapore.

“LH was part of the group that was plotting an attack on Marina Bay,” said Mr Agus, the Antara News Agency reported. “He also underwent training using airsoft guns as preparations to go to Syria.”

In August, Indonesian anti-terror forces arrested six men on suspicion of planning a rocket attack on Singapore. The six arrested were also allegedly from terrorist group KGR@Katibah GR.

Police also seized bomb-making materials, guns, and arrows from suspects’ homes in the raid on Aug 5. But police said there were no signs that the rocket attack was anything more than a plan.

The suspects are currently being investigated at special counter-terrorism squad Densus 88’s headquarters for their involvement in Islamic State’s Indonesian terror network.

  • Couple Opens Home To Pregnant Women In Zika-Affected Areas

Couple Opens Home To Pregnant Women In Zika-Affected Areas

When teacher Leonie Besson heard about the Zika outbreak and the risks the virus poses to pregnant women, she decided to take matters into her own hands and open her home to expectant mothers in affected areas.

In a Facebook post last week, she made an open offer for pregnant strangers and their partners to stay in her house for the time being.

“If anyone knows of a pregnant couple in (a) Zika-affected area (who) need somewhere high-rise to stay, walking distance to shops and supermarket … please let me know.” “Free use” of the kitchen and a “room with air-con and bed” will be included.

Speaking to TODAY about the offer, which has yet to be taken up, Mrs Besson said that having a 10-month-old son herself influenced her decision.

“I was just thinking back to this time last year when I was pregnant. Being pregnant is already such a time to worry: Whether you’re eating right, whether your baby has Down Syndrome,” said the 30-year-old.

“I was just imagining what pregnant women feel right now, and I had this idea. We’ve an extra room, and I’ve never been bitten by a mosquito in my house. Someone might need a room somewhere, and we have that extra space.”

So far, the Health Ministry has announced that two pregnant women have been infected with Zika, which carries a low risk of foetuses being born with microcephaly, a condition that results in babies born with abnormally small heads.

Home for Mrs Besson is a five-room flat on the 13th storey in Pasir Ris, occupied by her, her husband and her baby. The room she is offering is furnished with a pull-out bed.

She said her husband, too, felt it was a good idea, and her baby loves new faces. Asked about the risks involved in bringing a stranger home, Mrs Besson said she would meet interested parties and chat with them first.

“I didn’t really consider the risks. We’ve got nothing to steal. We’re very simple people, and we’re just a couple with a young baby … trying to help another couple having a baby. It’s common decency,” she said.

But she also emphasised that this was a temporary solution for those who are extra worried “and their houses don’t have air-con, they can’t close all the windows and they live on a lower floor”.

She hopes more people will offer similar help to pregnant women in need during this period.

MOH Reviewing Protocol Of Isolating Suspected Zika Cases

Patients suspected of having Zika may be sent home to await their test results instead of being isolated in hospitals. The review of the Health Ministry’s protocal is based on observations that 80 per cent of Zika patients do not show any symptoms.
