Daniel Goh: I Have Always Been Professional, Allegations Are Baseless

Hello everyone, thank you for your amazing support thus far. Thanks for encouraging me to stand strong. Someone wrote a poison pen letter to WP and to the media to smear me with the allegation that I had an affair with a former student of mine whom I supervised for her thesis. And the media is going to run the story online and in print. The timing is sensational.

I categorically refute the baseless allegations and I question the timing of the poison pen letter coming immediately after the candidate introduction. I have been in the public eye, involved with WP, for over two years, and if the intention is to alert the party to alleged moral failings, it would have been done earlier and directly to the party leaders. I have always maintained a professional relationship with my students. This is very hurtful and unfair to my family.

  • SDP’s Sidek Mallek Wants To Champion The Plight Of Low Income Families

SDP’s Sidek Mallek Wants To Champion The Plight Of Low Income Families

Mr Sidek Mallek is a Compliance Auditor for a leading security company. A former civil servant, who in 1989, received the Finance Minister’s Commendation for Outstanding Work from Dr. Richard Hu, Sidek carries the same work excellence into the private sector. In 2008, his diligence earned him the Commissioner of Police Award for Outstanding Contribution.

Sidek also holds a Professional Certificate from the Institute of Administrative Management. Married with three children, he enjoys cooking, baking, bowling and simply chilling with his family.

Sidek joins the Singapore Democratic Party because he believes it a credible party that has studied and put forth many alternative policies to benefit Singaporeans. He is very concerned about problems low-income families face:

“Many people cannot afford basic necessities. It is unflattering and irresponsible for Ministers to say people who earn a mere $1000 a month can buy and own a HDB flat.”

Having contributed a fair share of his thoughts on such issues in the social media, Sidek is convinced it is now time to take them to parliament. He wishes to:

    • Highlight socio-economic problems faced by low-income families,
    • Cut red tape and provide assistance for needy citizens in a timely manner,
    • Improve job security and continuity,
    • Enhance educational opportunities for children of low-income families, and
    • Ensure single parents are treated equally in matters of housing, children education and other basic needs.

Sidek believes in the democratic process in addressing issues that impact Singaporeans’ quality of life and wellbeing. He hopes constituents will let him be their voice in Parliament.

  • Sidek Mallek And John Tan Unveiled By SDP

Sidek Mallek And John Tan Unveiled By SDP

The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) unveiled two more candidates on Thursday (Aug 27), psychologist John Tan and auditor Sidek Mallek.

At a press conference at its party headquarters in Ang Mo Kio, SDP candidate Dr Paul Tambyah introduced the two new candidates to the media, without revealing where they will be standing.

Dr Tan, 54, is the vice-chairman of SDP. He is married with three children. Mr Sidek, 55, is a compliance auditor, and is married with four children.  While Mr Sidek is a political newcomer, Dr Tan was part of SDP’s Sembawang GRC team in 2011. SDP’s Sembawang team won 36.1 per cent of the vote, losing to the PAP team led by Minister Khaw Boon Wan.

The party has already introduced four other candidates for the polls: healthcare administrator Chong Wai Fung, 45; accounts manager and former Navy staff sergeant Khung Wai Yeen, 34; sales director Jaslyn Go, 42; and National University of Singapore Yong Yoo Lin School of Medicine professor Paul Tambyah, 50.

This means the SDP, which will contest Holland-Bukit Timah and Marsiling-Yew Tee GRCs, and the single-seat wards of Bukit Panjang, Bukit Batok and Yuhua, has revealed six of its 11 candidates.

The SDP, which launched its campaign in January, has said that it would champion issues relating to the cost of living, the Central Provident Fund (CPF) Minimum Sum, as well as the country’s growing population.

The September 11 election will also be the first that Dr Chee is set to contest since 2001. He was unable to run in 2006 and 2011 as he was declared bankrupt after failing to pay $500,000 in damages for defaming then-Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew and then-Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong during the 2001 General Election. He was cleared of bankruptcy in 2012.

Several opposition parties have begun making formal introductions of their candidates.

The Singapore People’s Party (SPP) has confirmed its line-up for the single-seats of Hong Kah North, Mountbatten and Potong Pasir.

The Workers’ Party (WP) has introduced eight candidates at its headquarters at Syed Alwi Road, while the Reform Party (RP) introduced its slate for West Coast GRC and Radin Mas SMC on Thursday.

  • 4,700 “.sg” E-Mail Addresses Found In Adultery Site’s Leaked Data

4,700 “.sg” E-Mail Addresses Found In Adultery Site’s Leaked Data

Is your e-mail address in the leaked list of Ashley Madison members?

Last week, personal information belonging to more than 32 million members of the adultery website was leaked online by hackers.

The New Paper combed through the large data dump and found 4,751 e-mail addresses with the “.sg” suffix, which indicates a Singapore domain address.

Examples of such addresses include yahoo.com.sg or live.com.sg addresses.

These addresses are said to be registered with Ashley Madison, whose tagline is “Life is short. Have an affair”.

These e-mail addresses also included 38 “.edu.sg” e-mails, which typically belong to students, teachers and faculty members of local education institutions.

An MOE spokesman told TNP: “MOE will check the veracity of the e-mail accounts being used. If there are breaches of regulations or inappropriate conduct that undermines the values expected of our educators, we will take appropriate action.”

It is likely there are more Singapore e-mail addresses in the leaked data because many people here have e-mail addresses without the “.sg” suffix, such as Gmail and Hotmail.

The leaked data, which was about 9.7GB in size, can be downloaded by anyone. But it is hosted on the “dark Web” that is not easily accessible.

In the US and Canada, the data leak has had wide-ranging consequences.

The hack has reportedly led to two suicides, said Canadian Police.

“Spin-off” crimes including extortion, blackmail and online scams have also been attributed to the leak.

Some websites claim to provide access to the data and also offer to delete data from the web for a hefty fee of US$230 (S$322).

One of the more high-profile users who has been exposed on the site is conservative US reality TV star Josh Duggar from 19 Kids And Counting.

In Singapore, where Ashley Madison was banned from launching a local website in November 2013 over its attack on “family values and public morality”, the response to the leak has been tepid.

An online forum has claimed to identify two senior lawyers purported to be members of the site, but not much else has been said about people here who may have been involved.

E-mail addresses used to register with the site are not verified, which means the owners of these e-mail addresses need not necessarily be users of the site.

The work e-mail address of an educator in an international school here was on the leaked list.

However, when contacted, a spokesman said the e-mail, while functional, is not the educator’s actual work e-mail address.

    REDIRECTED

She said: “(The educator) does not have access to the e-mail (address) listed on the site.

“Any e-mails sent to that address are immediately redirected to the school’s main account.”

Mr Justin Tan, an associate lawyer at Trident Law Corporation, said it is illegal to use someone else’s e-mail address to register for services.

He said: “Using someone else’s e-mail address without their knowledge or authorisation is possibly an offence under the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act.”

Some e-mail addresses listed on the site are also said to be fake.

Ashley Madison does not require valid e-mail addresses.

TNP also discovered two “.gov.sg” e-mail addresses, one of which bore the “cpib.gov.sg” domain.

But a spokesman for the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) clarified that the address did not exist in its system.

CNN reported that more than 15,000 e-mail addresses listed in the data dump were government and military agencies, some of which were proven to be real.

Human resource experts noted that using your work e-mail addresses for personal use is generally frowned upon.

Ms Linda Teo, the country manager for ManpowerGroup Singapore, said: “Strictly speaking, company or work e-mail addresses should not be used to access personal sites.”

Experts also said that if employees were found to have been looking for affairs on the site, it could affect their standing within the company.

Mr Erman Tan,president of the Singapore Human Resources Institute, saidmost companies tend to draw a line between an employee’s personal and professional life.

“If it is found that your personal affairs affect your work, you can get fired,” said Mr Tan.
