  • Malaysia Pre-University Students No Longer Required To Wear School Uniforms

Malaysia Pre-University Students No Longer Required To Wear School Uniforms

SEREMBAN (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) – After weeks of speculation, Malaysia’s Education Ministry has confirmed that students enrolling in Form Six or pre-university will be allowed to wear traditional outfits or other apparel as part of their school dress code when they begin the new term in a fortnight.

Students will also be allowed to wear batik attire to school under a move by the ministry to “re-brand” Form Six.

Education Ministry director-general Datuk Seri Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof said schools can no longer compel Form Six students to wear a standard uniform.

Male students will be allowed to wear light-coloured shirts and slacks to school, but these should not have floral or other designs.

“Although they are free to choose the colour of their shirts, these should not have designs other than stripes or checked designs which are fine,” he said in a directive to all schools.

The slacks should be ankle-length and not tight.

They would also be allowed to wear belts but the buckles cannot be more than 5cm in size.

Although it was not stated in the directive, students can still wear their uniforms.

Dr Khair said despite the flexibility under the new rule, students are prohibited from wearing any attire made of denim material.

He said apart from baju kurung, female students will be allowed to wear long pants and two or three-piece pant suits.

They can also wear blouses with sleeves, maxi dresses and skirts which were lower than the knee level. Jeans, cargo pants, shorts and leggings are banned.

“The students will not be allowed to wear t-shirts when they attend classes,” he said, adding that female students would not be allowed to don tight attire.

Boys will be required to wear shoes and socks while the girls can only wear shoes that cover their feet.

Slippers, clogs and sandals are out.

As for outdoor activities, the students are encouraged to wear long pants or track bottoms and short or long-sleeved t-shirts.

“The t-shirts they wear should not have political, violent, vulgar or any negative images,” he said.

The move to do away with the uniform for pre-university students has not been welcomed by most of the public.

In a poll by The Star Online, many believed the decision would not have any relevant impact on the overall standard of education.

Facebook user Stephanie Ha said that the move was not a good idea as students, especially girls, will waste their time thinking of what to wear.

“This will also lead to a sense of loss of identity and sense of belonging to their school,” she said.

Another Facebook user, Cecilia Thomas, questioned how the move would help with the students’ education.

“There will be extra expenses for families because students would want to impress their friends,” she added.

Grace Williams said the move would create a divide between the rich and poor students.

“The rich will try to show off with their expensive dresses and the poor will suffer from an inferiority complex.

“This will directly affect their studies,” she said.

  • Malay Man Struggles To Find Job After Losing Job To Foreign Worker

Malay Man Struggles To Find Job After Losing Job To Foreign Worker

I am a 52-year-old unemployed of a Malay race. I have been unemployed for 1 year plus and the help I received so far is from the CDC.

I got retrenched from the position of safety coordinator I worked for due to end of contract and the person that is sitting on the position now is a foreign worker that I trained before.

I guess you know how I felt.

I am trying my best to find a job now but whenever I go for the interviews, the first question they asked me is how much are you asking for. I replied,  “Negotiable.” “ Do you want to go for the same pay as ten years ago?” how should I answer, of course not??? A foreigner took away my job that paid me $4500 per month to support my family.

I was the sole breadwinner of the family. Due to my unemployment, my wife started to find a job and is now working. They said can give me $2000 for the job role i was in but is it enough for me? To the foreigners, $2000 to them is a considered a lot and they are very happy with it. To me? I have housing loans to pay, household expenses, my children’s education and savings for the future and the transportations as well…

When I went to CDC to ask for help, they said there is no job so far for my job role in the safety line. I was stunned. Singapore is so big and there is no vacancy for my position?

Work is my life, and it is about money, everything in Singapore is about money. Work to survive, work for the family etc. Although I may not have decent food for my family now, at least we still have something to eat. I hate when somebody comes to complain to me that the food is no good, I will get mad. Just eat whatever that is still on the table. Thank God there is still some food on the table.

If the only food is pork on the table, I will eat it to live. I am not going to die. I cannot be dead. If there is only one food on the table and that is pork, I am going to eat it up. That is what my religion tells me to. You eat to live not live to eat. You just eat to live.

Luckily I have very supportive friends and family members, we talk about employment issues and all the stress I am facing. My wife is very understanding. I don’t mind do household chores when I am unemployed as she is now working. Even when I am employed, I do the cooking. We stay by our side and face the problem together.

I am just trying my best to work for my family and if they (the foreigners) take away my job how am I going to survive in Singapore? I did go for courses under NTUC to upgrade myself. But is it enough? I am not too sure now.

  • Open Letter To MOE: Cease Hiring Of Male Gay Teachers

Open Letter To MOE: Cease Hiring Of Male Gay Teachers

    Dear Sir & Madam,

I am disappointed to know that another gay male teacher was charged in court recently. He was accused of molesting two boys aged 13 and 14 in his flat . After the Straits Times broke the news, social media users investigated and managed to uncover that he was a Head of Department of a primary school when those hideous acts were committed. Photos of him were posted on the internet [1].

Clarence Hoe King Chuan was not the first gay teacher to be formally charged for his devious acts. Earlier in December, Chock Soon Seng, a 37 year old male former primary school teacher was sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a 14 year old boy and threatened to circulate his nude photos online [2]. In the same month, another 34 year old male teacher in a primary school molested a 12 year old boy who is under his care as a CCA teacher & discipline master [3].

In July this year, a male Junior College teacher was convicted for underage sex with a 14 year old boy he met on the internet [4].

Besides recent cases, a 33 year old gay male teacher in primary school molested and kissed 4 boys between the age of 10 and 12 years old last year November [5]. That same year, a 33 year old gay teacher had molested a 13 year old boy in a condominium swimming pool shower cubicle [6].

In March 2012, another gay 38 year old primary school was sent to prison for jailed for 10 years for sexually violating two boys, one of them was only 8 years old [7].

The examples I have listed above are certainly not exhaustive. I firmly believe that most of our teachers who entered the profession have regarded teaching as a noble case but I fear there is a small group of teachers who became teachers to satisfy their own immoral desires.

Does MOE and her respective schools have any safeguards to ensure that our school grounds do not become a hunting ground for these sexual predators?

I hope our Education Minister Mr Heng Swee Keat has not turned a blind eye to these incidents and I hope he can set a proper directive and address this issue before parents lose trust in our educational institutions.

  • IS Raih Untung Jual Organ Manusia Untuk Biayai Aktiviti Keganasan

IS Raih Untung Jual Organ Manusia Untuk Biayai Aktiviti Keganasan

Katanya, pulangan perdagangan organ manusia amat menguntungkan.

Bagaimanapun, maklumat mengenai penjualan organ akhirnya bocor, lapor Press TV.
