    Singapore F1 Fans Bribed Security Guard To Allow Them In, Even Helped Them Take Epic Photo

    The Singapore GP, organisers of the Formula One race here, are investigating a claim that a security guard was bribed into allowing a couple to enter the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

    On Sep 17, All Singapore Stuff published a screenshot of a Facebook post showing the couple in question posing for a picture on the tracks near a Johnnie Walker advertisement board.

    Read a caption on the post:

    “3am in the morning. Bribed the security guard to let us onto track. He not only agreed, he took the photo. Non F1 fans won’t understand this, but most of us will.”

    In response to a media query, the Singapore GP told Stomp that they are looking into the matter.

    Said a spokesman:

    “The safety of our patrons is of utmost priority and we view allegation of bribery seriously. We are working with the appointed security agency assigned to the reported area, to investigate the claim.”

    Singapore’s Prison Officer Charged For Allegedly Attempting To Obtain Bribes Amounting To $81,000

    A prison officer was charged on Thursday (Jul 6) for allegedly attempting to obtain bribes to the tune of S$81,000 in cash and loans from an inmate. Kobi Krishna Ayavoo, 50, a senior chief warder at Changi Prison, allegedly solicited the bribes in exchange for “facilitating” inmate Chong Keng Chye’s transfer out of Changi Prison Cluster A1, court documents stated.

    Kobi, who faces eight counts of corruption, allegedly tried to obtain loans of up to S$70,000 and cash amounting to S$11,000 between September 2015 and March 2016, the court heard. He will next appear in court on Aug 3. If convicted, Kobi faces up to five years’ jail and/or a fine of up to S$100,000, per charge.

    Cop Charged With Accepting Bribes, Placing Bets On Illegal TOTO And 4D

    A police officer was charged on Friday (Sept 25) with allegedly obtaining bribes and placing illegal bets in 2014.

    Staff Sergeant Woo Poh Liang, 28, faces two counts of corruptly obtaining gratification totalling $35,000 to help Beltran Angelo Salvador evade prosecution in an insult of modesty case.

    Woo is alleged to have accepted one portion of the money in an interview room at Clementi Police Division on Sept 17 last year.

    Around the same day, Woo had allegedly collected more money from Salvador at a taxi stand near Outram Park MRT station.

    Woo also faces 18 counts for offences under the Common Gaming Act and Betting Act.

    From May to July 2014, Woo, who had joined the police force in 2008, had allegedly placed bets illegally on FIFA World Cup matches, Toto and 4D amounting to about $27,500.

    Woo has been granted a $30,000 bail.

    A pre-trial conference is set for Oct 22.

  • Police Officers Reject Bribery Attempt

    A 22-year-old male suspect was arrested for attempting to bribe four police officers who detained him for an offence of criminal trespass.

    On 9 February 2014 at about 3.40 am, Police were alerted to a case of trespass where the suspect was found in the premises of a factory in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 1 by security officers while on patrol. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division soon arrived. However, upon the officers’ arrival, the suspect was uncooperative, shouting and gesticulating with his hands. Despite several warnings, the suspect remained uncooperative and necessary force was used to make the arrest.

    While the suspect was being guided into the police car, he offered all his money to the 4 officers at scene if they were to let him go. The bribery attempt was flatly rejected by the officers, who proceeded to escort the suspect back to Ang Mo Kio Police Divisional Headquarters. The 4 officers are Staff Sergeant Muhammad Taufiq, Sergeant Gordon Yeo, Sergeant Muhammad Qayyum and Sergeant Ramzi of Ang Mo Kio South Neighbourhood Police Centre.

    Investigations against the suspect for an offence of Criminal Trespass, are ongoing. Any person convicted for the offence of Criminal Trespass under Section 447 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, shall be liable to an imprisonment term which may extend to 3 months, or with a fine which may extend to $3,000, or with both. The Corrupt Practices Investigations Bureau (CPIB) is also investigating the suspect for attempting to bribe the police officers.

    Assistant Commissioner Keok Tong San, Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, commended the officers for their integrity in rejecting the bribes. He added, “Their act is a testament to the high level of integrity in the Singapore Police Force.”
