Kopi secara peribadinya tidak menyebabkan kanser. Ia hanya boleh menyebabkan kanser jika diminum terlalu panas. Begitu juga dengan minuman lain. Boleh menyebabkan kanser jika diminum terlalu panas. Jadi kanser hanya disebabkan cara penyediaannya.
Bagaimana kopi menjadi minuman bermanfaat?
Jesty is a 9-year old girl from Indonesia Batam, suffering from serious cancerous tumor. Due to the severity of her condition, the local hospital in Batam wasn’t able to treat, so she was transferred to Singapore KK Hospital on 06 August. The doctor in KK Hopsital brief the parents that there will be complications to Jesty’s conditions if she’s unable to operate soon, and since the parents are from Indonesia Batam, they will not have any medical subsidies, of which the bill is expected to go up to $250,000. Her cancer cells has been slowly spreading up to her lungs, and if it’s not treated immediately, she may not be able to make it.
The family are all average income household earners, and what’s most important for them is the life of their daughter. They have tried all ways to raise funds but the amount are limited, so they have no choice but to seek help from the general public for their assistance. Jesty is only a young girl and she has a bright future ahead of her, the parents are hoping to raise enough money for her to proceed with her operation.
All funds raised here will goes towards paying the medical fees incurred for Jesty’s KK Hospital stay in Singapore, which GIVE.asia will pay direct to the hospital from the fund raised. Thank you for your kind heart and soul to help Jesty, and let’s help her to pull through this ordeal. God bless! A single mother with cancer has been cut off from medical and social assistance subsidy schemes after raising $900,000 in donations.
Ms Tam Chek Ming, 46, is the first publicly known case to have financial aid terminated due to being able to raise funds on her own.
This comes at a time when individual appeals online have garnered up to six-figure sums in donations.
While Ms Tam managed to raise funds online, social workers said people caught in financial emergencies should still turn to government aid schemes first, and warned that crowdfunding has its risks for donors and fund-raisers.
Ms Tam learnt in 2015 that she had ovarian cancer. Despite chemotherapy, her cancer progressed from Stage 1 to 4. For the past two years, her medical bills were subsidised by Medifund, a social safety net to help poor Singaporeans pay for medical treatment – specifically those unable to pay their bills even after subsidies, insurance, Medisave and cash payments.
Ms Tam also made crowdfunding appeals – one in April last year and another this April – saying she had to fight her cancer to stay alive for her five-year-old son.
She went on crowdfunding pages Give.asia and Generosity and has raised $771,692 and US$80,047 (S$109,000) respectively so far.
In May, a Medifund committee from the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore, where she was receiving treatment, examined her access to Medifund as part of a regular review and subsidies were stopped last month.
A spokesman for the institute told The Straits Times: “The committee assessed that Ms Tam no longer needed to rely on Medifund assistance for her medical bills based on her current financial resources; and that Medifund amount can be used to help other patients with more immediate needs.”
She used to be on Comcare, a national aid scheme for those with low income, for three months from November last year but did not return to renew her assistance in January.
A second application in May this year was rejected “as she was assessed to have sufficient savings”, said a spokesman from the Ministry of Social and Family Development, which oversees the scheme.
Ms Tam declined to comment. In her posts on crowdfunding pages, she had said she sold off all she could sell in her two-room flat and skipped meals so her son could eat.
She also said the immunotherapy she needed was not covered by Medifund or other schemes. Generally, a dose is required every 21 days and costs about $6,000.
Social service experts ST spoke to said the Government made the right move to stop her financial aid, so help can be given to others. They also said if her donations are used up and she needs more money again, she can reapply for subsidies.
A man threw a surprise birthday party for his cancer-stricken wife at HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok on June 11, but what left her in tears was his renewal of their wedding vows in front of guests.
Stomper Anonymous Friend, who is a friend of the groom’s friend, said he has attended many weddings and parties, but none have touched him as much as this event had.
The couple, who are both 45 years old and have an 18-year-old son, first took their wedding vows in 1997 when they got married.
However, the husband decided to renew his vows due to his wife’s illness. He also went down on his knees to propose to her again and gave her a ring.
Said the Stomper:
“The most touching part of this event is when Mr Suria renewed his weddings vows, which he first did back in 1997 when he got married to Mrs Sarojini. The atmosphere was filled with love when he went on his knee to propose again with a ring.
“Seeing this… I daresay True Love still exists!
“Wedding vows are magical and beautiful words: ‘In sickness and in health. I will love and honour you all the days of my life’.
“Mrs Sarojini is suffering from cancer but she is still strong. An iron lady indeed!
“I don’t know Mr Suriya personally but my respect for him is way above sky level!
“Everyone in the room was crying and was touched by the true love this husband had for his wife.
“I wanted to share this so people will understand that love is not about sex or having fun. It is about being there during hard times too.
“In this era where love has taken a back seat, couples break up over little problems or cheat on their partners. They throw away love easily!
“Final word to you all: Cherish your marriage because it is a wonderful thing when two souls became one. Love conquers all.
“We need to learn a lot from Mr and Mrs Suria Saro. God bless both of them!”
My name is Nickson, and this is my story. Just like any teenager, I am an active 15 years old boy, with my bright future in front of me and filled with zest of life ahead of me. I have always been leading an active lifestyle, and an avid basketball player and I even qualified for a slot for Singapore Youth Basketball Team. Life was truly amazing for me!
However, on a fateful day on September 2015, I collapsed at home due to high fever and after several tests, doctors revealed that I’m is suffering from an aggressive form of leukaemia. My world came tumbling down, and not sure what to think for a 15 years old.
Thereafter, we seek medical attention from both KK Hospital and NUH, specialising in childhood leukaemia. I underwent chemotherapy and I harvested my father’s bone marrow in the hope for a full recovery in Sep 2016 in which I suffered a relapse just 3 months later which is in Nov 2016. After the relapse, my father’s cell was subsequently harvested to support the treatment of my leukaemia while searching for a compatible unrelated donor.
During the interim while looking for a compatible donor, we will have to repeat the harvesting of my father’s cells and the usage of a German drug by the name of Blinatumomab in order to stabilise my condition. The drug, Blinatumomab, cost about roughly SGD $220,000 in which is infused into the body over a period of one month. I am lucky to be insured under insurance for all treatments I’m doing in Singapore but for any procedures, various blood tests and treatments that my father is doing in order to harvest his cells to me (or if there’s any matching donors) insurance or Medisave doesn’t cover them and we’ve to pay solely in cash.
However, the doctors in Singapore recommend us to seek treatment for in Seattle Hospital in USA, as it is the only place in the world for cell therapy and there are already two successful proven cases who have returned back to Singapore with full recovery results.
All the health insurance in Singapore can only cover local treatments, and not overseas treatment. The deposit for the hospital in Seattle requires a minimum of SGD $700,000, and my parents were at the complete shock and lost in their thoughts upon hearing the treatment cost, and it’s way beyond our means.
As parents, I know they want their children to be healthy, and if there’s anything wrong with us, they will always seek the best possible treatment for us. We’re not sure if we can find any unrelated donors at this stage, but the possibility of me recovering through cell therapy is high, and we’re sincerely urging your kind helping hand and generosity to help my parents to lessen the burden and fundraise for my treatment.
My father is the sole breadwinner of the family, and my mom has become a full-time housewife in order to take care of me and my brother.
My life is not even half way through and the option for the cell therapy there is by far the most feasible and effective option for my full recovery. Results were already proven with two patients having gone there for the similar treatments and came back with very good results leading to a complete recovery from the dreadful disease. The cure that best fits my stubborn persistent leukaemia is only available in Seattle.
I and my family can never thank you enough in helping us for this fund raising for my treatment in the States and our family will forever be indebted to all the help and support we have received. Thank you so much for all the kind assistance rendered and we wish all good health.
Please help me to fight this leukemia so that I can continue walk the path in front of me. No amount is too small and we thank you again for your kind generosity.
