  • Punching Bag For The Rich: Maid Slapped, Punched, Whacked With Canes By Wealthy Employers

Punching Bag For The Rich: Maid Slapped, Punched, Whacked With Canes By Wealthy Employers

A married couple were sentenced to jail after a 14-day trial, which revealed the numerous ways they had assaulted their Indonesian maid for almost two years.

Addressing the man, Tay Wee Kiat, 39, just before delivering the sentence, District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan said: “It is clear that you are the main perpetrator.”

He then sentenced the former regional IT manager to two years and four months in jail after convicting him of all 12 charges.

Nine of the charges were for causing hurt to Ms Fitriyah, 34, who had worked for them in Yishun Avenue 6 from Dec 7, 2010 to Dec 12, 2012.

The other three were for abetting his Myanmar maid Moe Moe Than, 28, to slap the Indonesian helper on the face; offering to pay Ms Fitriyah her salary and send her home in exchange for not reporting his offence of abuse; and instructing Ms Fitriyah to lie to the police that he did not abuse the other maid.

Tay’s wife, former senior sales manager Chia Yun Ling, 41, now a part-time events administrator, was sentenced to two months’ jail for slapping Ms Fitriyah sometime between June and December 2012, and punching her on the forehead on Dec 7 that year.

During the trial, the court heard that Tay hit the Indonesian’s head with canes and bamboo sticks.

In one incident in February 2011, as punishment, he stuffed an incense bottle into her mouth and forced her to stand for half an hour on one leg on a stool, holding another stool overhead.

Ms Than testified that Tay forced her and Ms Fitriyah to get down on all fours and then kicked their backsides.

He also made them slap each other 10 times and hit them with three tied-up canes.

Seeking a sentence of at least 33 months’ jail for Tay and a minimum three months for Chia, Deputy Public Prosecutors Kumaresan Gohulabalan and Dora Tay cited several aggravating factors such as their abuse of authority.

“He virtually treated Fitriyah as a punching bag upon which he could vent his frustrations on matters that had nothing to do with her,” said the prosecutors.

Both are appealing and are out on $5,000 bail each.

In an advisory last night, a spokesman for the Ministry of Manpower urged foreign domestic worker (FDW) employers to be patient and understanding towards their helpers.

“If employers or FDWs are facing problems with their employment relationship, they should approach their employment agency, or call the Centre for Domestic Employees at 1800 2255 233 for advice and assistance,” he said.

  • Maid Gives Birth To Stillborn, Hides Body In Drawer At Employer’s House

Maid Gives Birth To Stillborn, Hides Body In Drawer At Employer’s House

A 33-year-old maid who gave birth to a dead baby boy and kept the body in a drawer at her employer’s house has been arrested.

The incident occurred on Monday (Oct 19) afternoon at a two-storey house along Lorong Ong Lye in Serangoon.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the woman, said to be a maid from Indonesia, had complained to her employers that she was not feeling well.

She was taken to a clinic and subsequently referred to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for tests, where a doctor suspected that she had recently given birth.

Upon further questioning, the woman admitted to having delivered a baby boy who died on birth and having hidden the body in a drawer in a second-floor room at her employers’ house.

When contacted, a police spokesman said it was alerted to the incident at 1.22pm and discovered the baby’s body in the drawer.

The baby was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

The spokesman said the woman was arrested for concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body.

The Straits Times understands that the baby was born premature at five months old.

Shin Min said the woman has been working for the family – an elderly couple and their daughter, her husband and her 11-year-old son – for more than a year. According to the report, the maid is married with two sons.

  • Maid Physically Abused 2 Year Old When Parents Were Away

Maid Physically Abused 2 Year Old When Parents Were Away

My daughter is merely 2 yrs old, how can a maid do such things to her?

Happily having her dinner, unknowingly out of nowhere a sudden kick from her had landed my Mikayla’s head hit hard on the floor. That impact is totally undescribable from me.

I was totally heart broken when I saw my maid doing that to my daughter.

Personally I wont even lay a hand on my princess, until someone else actually did it.

It just broke my heart too much.

  • Stop Allowing Maids To Be Preyed Upon By Sexual Predators

Stop Allowing Maids To Be Preyed Upon By Sexual Predators

I am filing this report as my concern to what is happening every Sunday at our parks and public places. I hope the authorities and the public will look into this issues.

Every Sunday, Paya Lebar and Lucky Plaza have become a ‘flesh market’ for thousands of Banglas to gather, stalk, prey and pick maids for their lust and sexual desires.

Also check-out every Sunday at the East Coast Park, Carpark D, Banglas and maids pitch tents for their ‘sex love nests’ for their immoral activities. Right in a public recreational park and beach areas that are meant for family outings. I am sure making love in a public area is a punishable offence.

The open space between Kallang Airport Drive and Kallang Airport Way is littered with couples, Banglas and maids. Openly displaying ‘intimate and sensuous’ behaviours.

This are not a normal boy/girl relationships of love and marriage, these are clear cut issues of sex predators taking advantage of naïve, vulnerable maids for their sexual pleasures. As we know the Banglas/Indians come from a country where women are subservient to men, a male chauvinistic society, a rape occurs every 15 minutes.

Our maids have become the weekend ‘comfort women’ for these Bangla sex predators. Both Banglas and maids have it free and easy for sexual misconduct in Singapore.

As we know hundreds of maids are pregnant every year, as always the girls get used and abandon.

Sexual offences goes unreported. The maids do not how to complain and address their problems, They are easily exploited. On numerous occasions I have heard of maids after booking a hotel room with their Bangla boyfriends, find their money and possession missing along with their boyfriends. I also heard cases of sexual offences, forced sex, spiked drinks and broken promises

When molest and rapes do happen, most maids are too scared to report , whatever happens these girls will never ever report to the authorities or police let alone inform their employers. They are the silent victims.

There are more sinister intentions besides a normal Bangla and maid relationship. Willing or unwilling the line must not be crossed, all this must be within the boundaries of Singapore laws. I believe these foreign workers have contravene and defy their working contract which requires good behavior and not to cause public unease. These foreign workers have displayed bahaviours that have been very disconcerting and caused unease and disgust among Singaporeans.

Action must be taken to apprehend these sex predators, curtailed such abuses and protect our maids.

After taking care of liquors and drinkers, its time to reprimand and discipline Banglas/Indians sexpredators of stalking, preying and sexploiting our maids.

    My suggestions,
    • Every Sundays, the authorities, Police and MOM must check-out and record Banglas/Indians and maids booking into cheap hourly rates hotels, eg Hotel 81,involving in “illicit, inappropriate and unacceptable sexual relationship”.
    • The National Parks authority must keep track of park users and camp sites not for sinister activities.
    • Bangla/Indian drivers must not use their employers vans, on Sundays for making love. ( recently I saw a van with mattress, maids in East Coast Park)
    • Banglas and maids who display ‘flirtatious and indecent behavior’ in public.
    • In Sentosa, Banglas/Indians taking photos or oggling at bikini swimmers must be apprehended.
This is a problem that needs to be addressed by the authorities. If nothing is done, then this will continue to happen indefinitely, Banglas will become more bolder and more innocent maids will fall victims indefinitely.
