  • Singaporean Couple Starved Filipina Maid For 15 Months, Gets 3-Months Jail Sentence

Singaporean Couple Starved Filipina Maid For 15 Months, Gets 3-Months Jail Sentence

A Singaporean couple – Lim Choon Hong and his wife Chong Sui Foon – were jailed on Monday (27 March) for starving their Filipina domestic worker over a period of 15 months between 2013 and 2014.

Lim, a trader, was jailed three weeks and fined S$10,000, while Chong was jailed for three months. The couple have four children.

The couple’s maid Thelma Oyasan Gawidan, who is in her 40s, was given only white bread and instant noodles to eat twice a day during the period. By the time she ran away in April 2014 and sought help from migrant advocacy group HOME, Gawidan had lost almost 20kg and weighed just 29kg.

According to media reports, the prosecution will appeal against the sentences, having asked for a year’s jail for each of them. For their offences, the couple could have been jailed up to one year each and/or fined $10,000 each.

The couple, who are both 47 and have four children, were found guilty in March 2016 of failing to provide Gawidan with enough food while she was employed by them.

The couple also paid Gawidan $20,000 as part of a settlement agreement, which precludes Gawidan from suing them in civil proceedings.

Chong had claimed that her actions were due to her mental illness as she had been diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder as an adult.

The couple was locked in such a deep embrace, they either didn’t notice or ignored the eyes they were attracting at the bicycle parking area outside of Choa Chu Kang station yesterday (Nov 26), at 1.30pm.

Stomper Naqi even managed to take photos of the couple, and seemed to be put off by their behaviour.

    She said:

“Couple doing business regardless of people watching them, under Choa Chu Kang MRT station bicycle stand.”

    News reports

Philippine police, backed by Interpol, say they have arrested 58 suspected members of a cyber-sex extortion syndicate. Users worldwide were lured into exposing themselves via webcams and then blackmailed.

Cyber sextortion generally refers to using sexual images (obtained either through enticement or malicious code) in order to extort money from unsuspecting military and civilian victims.

In November 2012, the security team for Facebook – the world’s largest social networking site – identified a major sextortion ring operating out of the Philippines.

Syndicate members posing as attractive women used social media to trick online users overseas into exposing their bodies or having cybersex.

Such acts were videoed online by the extortionists, typically from images sent by webcams attached to the user’s computer devices. The recordings were made “unknown to the victim,”

While cyber criminals will continue to plague social networking websites and look for unsuspecting victims, there are measures that can be taken to avoid becoming a victim of these types of scams.

    Recordings used for blackmail

The extortionists then threatened to send those recordings to relatives and friends of each user, unless they paid via money transfer remittance companies.

Interpol’s Singapore-based digital crime investigator Sanjay Virmani said hundreds of extortion victims were located in Asia, Europe and the United States.

The scale of these extortion networks is massive and run with just one goal in mind — to make money regardless of the terrible emotional damage they inflict on their victims.

    EDITOR’S NOTE

As long as porn sites and social media provide opportunity and capability to extort money from people, there will continue to be many opportunities for cyber sextortion predators.

Hope everyone will be more wary of sexy looking foreign women writing in broken English and demand for contact details to conduct video or Skype call. Only you can prevent such situation from happening. Don’t fall for the trap.

  • Filipina Woman Snatch My Husband

    Image sent by reader Shila

    Dear R1C,

Recently I caught my husband cheating on me. He has several contacts with women with weird names like ‘Heart’, ‘Wind’, ‘Cherry Love’, ‘Rain’.  I dunno what is his fascination with Filipina women but I heard they they are very persuasive and always give men the girlfriend experience. There were several mushy text conversations between him and these women. The most heart broken ones come from a woman who claimed her name is ‘Ice’. Mind you they are still exchanging SMS. You see he is working in shipping line. He always say he travels a lot and will be back several days later. Whenever he comes back he will bring back a lot of money. But he never bring me out shopping.  He will only pay for household expenses and very calculative. Now I know why he is so stingy. All these while he has so many mistresses and I am sure this woman named Ice is someone he has feelings for. We have a son and he is already in upper primary.

The government are bringing too many of them to Singapore and these women are taking away our husbands. Those who are married would know the challenges to keep a family together, have a decent saving, educate our children and also take care of our spouses so that they will not run away with foreigners. Everytime i see a filipino I get very angry. Because there are too many of them creating a mess out of our lives. Eversince my husband get to know Ice eveything change. He treats me like an invincible wife.

To Ice who stole my husband please use your brain and touch your heart. Don’t take away other people’s property or belonging. He is my husband. We are married. Please go back to your rotten country. To the Singapore government please stop bringing them in. They are the worst race in this whole wide world. If you have worked with them you will know what I mean.

    Shila
