Suspect In Borussia Dortmund Team Bus Attack Wanted To Profit From Stocks

Police commandos on Friday arrested a German-Russian suspect, 28-year-old Sergej W, behind a bomb attack on Borussia Dortmund’s team bus, prosecutors said, indicating the motive was financial and not terror-related.

“The accused is suspected of having carried out the attack on the team bus of Borussia Dortmund on April 11,” prosecutors said.

He is charged with attempted murder, setting off explosions and causing serious physical injury.”

He was staying in the same hotel as the team, had a view of the scene where the attack was to be staged and had bought so-called put options on the team’s shares on the day of the incident, they said.

These 15,000 options could have been sold at a pre-determined price by June 17, with a sharp fall in the share price promising a high profit.“A significant drop in the price could have been expected if, as a result of the attack, players had been seriously injured or even killed,” the prosecutors said.

Sergej. W had allegedly taken out a loan on April 3 to pay for the put options and bought them online from the IP address of the Hotel L’Arrivee, where the team was staying.

He had reserved the room in mid-March for the periods April 9-13 and 16-20 – coinciding with the team’s two scheduled matches against Monaco, though it was not yet clear at the time which one would be held in Dortmund.

He hoped to earn as much as 3.9 million euros ($4.2 million), the Bild newspaper reported.

The team’s share price has fallen by about 5.5 percent on the Deutsche Boerse since the attack and closed at 5.36 euros on Thursday.

Citing unnamed investigators, Bild said police believed the suspect was capable of building a remotely-triggered bomb, having won an educational award in electronics and engineering in 2005.

Three purported claims of responsibility stating a radical Islamist motive were found at the scene, on paper bearing no fingerprints, prosecutors said.

But Islamic studies scholars voiced “considerable doubts” about their authenticity, they said.

An Iraqi man was taken into custody over a suspected Islamist link but was later cleared of involvement in the attack.

Similarly, a purported claim stating a far-right motive sent to German media bore “contradictions and inconsistencies”, prosecutors said, adding that there was “no indication that it was sent by the perpetrator”.

Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere labelled the arrest “a great success” and said that, if confirmed, “this would be a particularly repugnant motive”.

Federal prosecutors scheduled a press conference for 1030 GMT on the investigation, which has involved several hundred police officers.

‘Humiliating’: Singaporean Asked To Prove She Was Lactating At Frankfurt Airport

A Singaporean mother of two was asked to squeeze her breast at an airport in Germany recently, to prove to a security official that she was lactating.

According to a BBC report published on Tuesday (Jan 31), Ms Gayathiri Bose said the incident happened as she was about to board a flight to Paris alone on Jan 26. After her bag carrying a breast pump went through the X-ray machine at the security screening station, officers took her aside for questioning.

The 33-year-old told the BBC that they had asked her “in an incredulous tone”: “You are breastfeeding? Then where is your baby?”

Sceptical of her claim, a female officer took her to a room for further questioning and that was when she was asked to “open up (her) blouse and show (her) breast”, said Ms Bose.

“She wanted me to show her by hand-expressing a little,” Ms Bose added.

Ms Bose said she did as told because she was “going through the motions”.

“I was all by myself as well and wasn’t sure what would happen to me if they decided to make trouble for me,” the BBC quoted her as saying.

    “HUMILIATING, VERY TRAUMATISING”

Ms Bose said that after the officers tested and cleared her pump, her passport was returned to her. She also asked for the name of the female officer, who wrote it on a piece of paper.

Despite her expressing discomfort over the way she was treated, the officer was “totally nonchalant and did not seem very remorseful or empathetic”, Ms Bose said.

Ms Bose said she was humiliated by the experience and described it as “very traumatising”. She added that she is considering taking legal action.

Pelarian Mahu Jual Bayi Berusia 1 Bulan Di eBay Dengan Harga S$7,600

World Muay Thai Champion From Germany Joins ISIS In Syria

A 29-year-old German kickboxer and two-time Muay Thai world champion of Albanian origin, Valdet Gashi, has joined ISIS and left for Syria to fight for the Islamists, Swiss media reports.

According to the Swiss SRF (Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen) program Rundschau, Gashi joined ISIS in early January 2015 but he had been concealing his whereabouts for several months, so that his family believed he was in Thailand.

To all my Family and friends: I am ok…. will be back soon…. i am working on a new Project and i had no Internet all the time. more Infos soonso dont worry ;)Posted by Valdet Gashi on 4 Февраль 2015 г.

SRF journalists managed to reach him via telephone in mid-May. During a 90-minute telephone conversation, Gashi reportedly told journalists that he had a deep and profound understanding of the ISIS ideology and had gotten used to ISIS’s ideas by now.

“I want to do something good and to die while doing it. That is what would make me happy,” he said. He also asked his friends and family not to denounce his decision as “they did not know the whole story,”he Switzerland’s 20 Minuten news.

    >>> WICHTIG – IMPORTANT <<<=”” p=””>

In Syria, Gashi is taking part in the establishment of a Caliphate, the SRF news network reports. In particular, he patrols an area along a stretch of the Euphrates tracking down smugglers and spies. He operates primarily near the city of Membij, close to the Turkish border.

Some muay thai fans responded to the news about Valdet Gashi joining ISIS by a proposal to deprive him of all his sport titles.

However, it is reported that he had not immediately left for Syria after joining ISIS. Initially, he came to the Swiss town of Winterthur, where he established a sports school named MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Sunna.

There he had trained three young men at the ages from 16 to 20, all of whom along with the sister of the one of the trainees also joined ISIS and left for Syria. All three trainees attended the same mosque in Winterthur, 20 Minuten reported.

One of the trainees, 20-year-old Hajan, also known as Ibn Muhamad al-Kurdi, has reportedly died in Syria fighting for ISIS. Gashi mourned the death of his “Kurdish friend’’ on his Facebook page and claimed they would soon meet again in “Jannah-al-firdaus,” the so-called Muslim seventh sky.

According to Atef Shanoun, the president of the Winterthur mosque association, that means Gashi is now seeking a martyr’s death through jihad.

Gashi’s family have criticized his decision to join ISIS. Enver Gashi, Valdet’s father, told Rundschau that“Valdet’s place is with us – with his children, his wife and his parents.”

“I want him to stop this nonsense and I hope he’ll come back to us one day, because his place is here and nowhere else.”

According to the SRF, Valdet Gashi has a wife and two small daughters, one of which was born just few months before he left for Syria.

  • Germanwings Plane Crashed In French Alps

Germanwings Plane Crashed In French Alps

A Germanwings plane carrying 150 people has crashed in the French Alps on its way from Barcelona to Duesseldorf.

The Airbus A320 – flight 4U 9525 – went down between Digne and Barcelonnette. There are no survivors, officials say.

The “black box” flight recorder has been found, France’s interior minister says. The cause of the crash is not known and the plane sent no distress signal during an eight-minute descent.

Among the passengers were 16 German pupils returning from an exchange trip.

Germanwings, a low-cost airline owned by Germany’s main carrier Lufthansa, has an excellent safety record. French, Spanish and German leaders have expressed shock.

A recovery team reached the site, in a remote mountain ravine, earlier on Tuesday. Their work was called off in the evening and will resume at first light on Wednesday, the French interior ministry said.

Bruce Robin, a prosecutor from Marseille, told the Reuters news agency that he had seen the wreckage of the aircraft from a helicopter.

“The body of the plane is in a state of destruction, there is not one intact piece of wing or fuselage,” he said.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier was also flown over the crash site and described it as “a picture of horror”, the Associated Press news agency says.

Officials believe 67 of those aboard the plane were German citizens. Forty-five of the passengers had Spanish names, Spain’s deputy prime minister said.

The passengers included a German school class on its way back from an exchange trip as well as two opera singers, Maria Radner and Oleg Bryjak.

Ms Radner was travelling with her husband and baby.

The flight was also carrying citizens of Australia, Turkey, Denmark, the Netherlands and Belgium. UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said it was “sadly likely” that some British nationals were on board.

Sandrine Boisse, a tourism official from the ski resort of Pra Loup, told the BBC that she believed she had heard a strange noise in the mountains at around 11:00 (10:00 GMT).

“At first we thought it was on the ski slopes, an avalanche, but it wasn’t the same noise,” she said.

    line

Analysis: Richard Westcott, BBC Transport correspondent

We know the aircraft went from a normal cruising height of 38,000 feet to crashing in the mountains in just eight minutes. One pilot told me that is twice the normal descent rate, but he also said that the aircraft is capable of coming down even more quickly and still being okay.

In an emergency, the pilots’ first priority is to fly the plane, but as soon as they have some control they are trained to make an emergency call. That didn’t appear to happen in this case, which suggests the pilots were coping with something so catastrophic they never had time to radio in a mayday, or turn to find the nearest runway.

It’s still too early to know anything for certain, but that might point to both engines failing, a fuel problem or something critical breaking off the aircraft.

The plane began descending one minute after it reached its cruising height and continued to lose altitude for eight minutes, Germanwings managing director Thomas Winkelmann told reporters.

He said the aircraft lost contact with French air traffic controllers at 10:53 at an altitude of about 6,000 feet.

The plane did not send out a distress signal, officials said. Earlier reports of a distress call, quoting the French interior ministry, referred to a message from controllers on the ground.

The White House has said there is no evidence so far of a terror attack. A Lufthansa official said they were assuming for the time being that the crash had been caused by an accident.

The Airbus A320 is a single-aisle passenger jet popular for short- and medium-haul flights.
