Cat Found Cruelly Trapped In A ‘Box Cage’: There Are Several Cases Of Disappearing Cats In That Area

Cat found in a box under a stack of 5 others in a rubbish chute at Strathmore Ave Blk 50 after 2 days of being missing. Whoever did this deserve to be punished. Whether or not you’re a cat lover, every life is precious. Since last month, one by one of our community cats are disappearing and we’re afraid the same might happen to them.

The ‘box’ was tightly wrapped with cloth and stapled to the wooden structure. (More like a funeral condolences flower stand). Police report has been made and investigations are on going. Let’s all hope we’ll catch the culprit.

  • Another Faulty Lift In Sengkang Trapped 70 Year Old Retiree In Lift For 40 Minutes

Another Faulty Lift In Sengkang Trapped 70 Year Old Retiree In Lift For 40 Minutes

Two days after the ceiling panel of a lift at Block 325A Sengkang East Way fell and hurt a girl, the other lift at the block broke down on Friday afternoon (June 9). The breakdown trapped a 70-year-old man inside the lift for 40 minutes, and left residents in the block with no lift access during this period.

The first lift with the faulty ceiling remains under repair till Monday (June 12).

Retiree Lee Keng Duan, who was trapped in the lift on Friday, said: “This lift has been always breaking down. I’m not so scared for myself, but I worry that my granddaughter could get trapped one day.”

He could not call anyone as his mobile phone had no reception, but one of his neighbours, Mr Sanjay Panday, happened to pass by at 4.40pm, and alerted the Ang Mo Kio Town Council (AMKTC).

“I heard the alarm, and saw that this old man was stuck in the lift, which had stopped between the first and second floor. This is very worrying, it is the school holidays, and imagine that there are kids who might be stuck in the lift if they happen to be inside,”said the 40-year-old workplace safety and health officer.

Mr Panday, who has lived at Block 325A since 2007, added that lift breakdowns in the block have been increasingly regular, echoing the views of several other residents interviewed by TODAY.

  • Off-Duty Police Officer Saves Baby Trapped In Car

Off-Duty Police Officer Saves Baby Trapped In Car

Off-duty officer, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Koh Koon Beng, was out with his family on Sunday evening, 20 July last year. Leaving the basement car park, they were alerted to loud screams for help.

Approaching quickly, DSP Koh found a woman in her thirties standing outside a white SUV, pulling desperately at the door handles. In tears, she told DSP Koh that her baby had been trapped inside for the past ten minutes. DSP Koh assured her that he would help.

Peering through the rear windows of the car, he saw a baby about 8-months-old, strapped to the booster seat. “He was screaming and crying and my only thought was to bring him out quickly”, recounted DSP Koh. Unable to open the locked car doors and the boot, DSP Koh realised that the only way in was by breaking the glass window.

DSP Koh explained to the mother what he intended to do. With her consent, he took a steering lock he had in his car and carefully broke the left rear quarter window farthest from the baby. Putting his hand through the broken glass, DSP Koh unlocked the door and carried the child out to safety and into the arms of his very relieved mother.

Touched by the help rendered, the mother wrote to DSP Koh to thank him for dealing with the situation so calmly. She also expressed her gratitude to his wife and children for staying with her throughout the ordeal. It turned out that a mechanical fault in the car caused the auto-lock to malfunction, inadvertently locking the baby in.

When asked how he felt about the incident, the Chief Investigation Officer of Tanglin Division said, “I don’t think much of what I have done as anyone would do the same. But as a police officer, we are on duty 24/7 and I am glad to have helped.”
