6 Terror Suspects Arrested For Plotting To Hit MBS With Rocket From Batam

SINGAPORE — Indonesian authorities have arrested six terrorism suspects over an alleged plot to fire a rocket into Marina Bay from Batam, a distance of less than 30km, according to local media reports.

The suspects, aged 19 to 46, were arrested on Friday morning (Aug 5) by Special Detachment 88, Indonesia’s elite counter-terrorism squad. The group is said to have links to Bahrun Naim, the alleged mastermind behind the attacks in central Jakarta earlier this year.

Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said it is aware that plans were being made by the six terror suspects. “Our security agencies have been coordinating closely with the Indonesian authorities since the discovery of this attack plot, to monitor the activities of the group and to apprehend those involved,” it said in a statement.

Singaporean police and other agencies have been stepping up inland and border security measures, said MHA.

According to an online report by Batam Pos, the suspects were arrested at various locations across Batam, including the Mediterranean Housing Block FF1 Batam Centre, Complex Masyeba, Cluster Sakura Botania, Carina Park Complex, and the Komplek Taman Indah Batuaji.

“It is true that we are holding six people,” a senior police official, Boy Rafli Amar, was quoted saying by Batam Pos.

The report identified the six suspects as Gigih Rahmat Dewa, 31; Trio Syafrido, 46; Eka Saputra, 35; Tarmidzi, 21; Hadi Gusti Yanda, 20; and M Tegar Sucianto, 19. All of them work at a fabric factory except Trio, who is reportedly a bank executive. An Indonesian TV station identified Gigih as the ring leader.

One of Gigih’s neighbours said he got married four years ago and did not show signs of suspicious behaviour. “He rarely goes out, in fact, we don’t know anything about them. So far the couple has been good,” the neighbour was quoted saying by Batam Pos.

Bahrun Naim, an Indonesian militant, is well-known to security agencies. Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said in March that Bahrun Naim was suspected of encouraging attacks in Singapore. He is said to be behind the bomb-and-gun assault at a Jakarta shopping plaza on Jan 14 that killed eight people, including four attackers, and injured more than 20 others.

Indonesian national police chief Badrodin Haiti has also named him as one of the region’s core leaders in the pro-Islamic State network

Walid J. Abdullah: Chastise, Don’t Dismiss, Donald Trump And Supporters

So many people going out of their way to chastise Donald Trump. I have no doubts some do it out of their convictions that his rhetoric is simply vile; yet, i can’t help but feel some just do it to present themselves as enlightened individuals.

Regardless, condemning his supporters as bigots, racists, narrow-minded, dumb and stupid is not going to change their vote. In fact, it will merely strengthen their conviction that Trump is indeed being targeted by the establishment and the rest of the world. An establishment that they perceive to have lost touch with the masses, and one that has not taken care of their bread and butter.

Learn from the lessons of Brexit. Displaying self-righteousness will not get us anywhere (look at those idiots supporting Trump; i’m anti-racism (selectively), i read so much, i’m clever, and they are morons). The rhetoric of hate, when heard by disenfranchised people, can really result in racist, bigoted and weird outcomes.

Address the real issues surrounding disenfranchisement, and don’t just dismiss them as ‘Trump supporters are just racists and misogynists’! (Which undeniably, some are)

But sure, if we want to take the moral ‘high ground’, in spite of our own silence toward racism in our midst, and if we wish to portray to the world how illuminated we are, continue to be condescending toward Trump supporters. Just don’t act surprised or sad if he eventually wins.

I don’t think he will, but hey, i didn’t think George W. Bush would get elected. Twice. The second time, after the illegal invasion of Iraq.

  • Former Chairman Of Darussalam Mosque Charge For Criminal Breach Of Trust Involving $370,000

Former Chairman Of Darussalam Mosque Charge For Criminal Breach Of Trust Involving $370,000

Former chairman of Darussalam Mosque, Abdul Mutalif Hashim, was charged in court yesterday (Aug 3) on 14 counts of criminal breach of trust involving savings from money collected at the mosque, reported Berita Harian on Thursday.

The donations amount to more than $370,000.

Mutalif, 55, was accused of committing the offences between 2006 and 2013 while as chairman of the mosque (Masjid Darussalam) at Clementi, as well as head of the administration office (Lembaga Pentadbir Masjid – LPM) of the mosque.

Mutalif is also president of Adam Association, a non-profit organisation to give support to men and a place for them to seek help.

According to the report, out of the 14 charges, nine involve Mutalif allegedly misappropriated $353,600 worth of collections from Masjid Darussalam, which he divided and banked into several bank accounts. These actions were not known by the mosque’s administration office (LPM).

According to the charge sheet which Berita Harian has obtained, he is accused of having committed the above offence over seven years, from Jan 2006 to March 2013.

Apart from that, there are five charges which involve him allegedly siphoning $18,291 from Masjid Darussalam’s donations and using it for expenses in Adam Association. These actions were again not known by the mosque’s administration office.

Mutalif is accused of committing the above offences over a period of four years, from Jan 2006 to Nov 2009.

As a whole, he managed to siphon a total of $371,891 from the mosque, which he then placed in several bank accounts and used for Adam Association expenses.

A spokesperson from the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) condemned the act. It stated to Berita Harian that “such actions in mosques are not acceptable”.

According to the newspaper, Muis had informed the police after they found inconsistencies. However, it did not provide details as the case is being heard in court.

It is understood that Mutalif did not appear in court yesterday because he was sick. His case will be heard again in court on August 10.

If found guilty, he can be jailed for life or up to 20 years and fined for each charge.

Chef Bob: Tolerate Sikit Lah Burning Of Offerings During Hungry Ghost Month

Ok guys. Our Buddhist/Taoist/Chinese brothers and sisters have started praying for their hungry ghost month. Please tolerate with their burning of offerings. How many days only what??!!

If the bins are near to those living in lower floors like mine, try asking them nicely to move it to a further location. If they decline, find other means to combat with the smoke and soot. Close your windows. Blast your fans. Don’t complain but find a solution.
If there’s a getai show, enjoy the entertainment. Start a mosh pit or something. Another excuse for you to leave the house and jalan2. ?

If need be to call the police, do it in a civilised manner. The men in blue have much bigger problems to attend to. And please don’t bitch about it in social media. If I see any, I won’t hesitate to block you unless you owe me money lah. That one must settle ah. Then I’ll block you. ????

Love begets love. Respect begets respect.

“Allah does not forbid you to be just and righteous towards those who did not go into battle against you (over matters of faith), and did not expel you from your homes. Deal with them justly. Allah loves those who are just.” The Holy Quran, Chapter 60, Verse 8.

    Wallahualam bisawab.
