Muslim New Yorker: Trump’s Victory Shows We’ll Never Be Accepted As Part Of American Community

I covered a lot of Trump rallies as a journalist. I didn’t feel any hatred. People were more curious than anything. I was never assaulted. I felt like most people were just supporting him because he wasn’t part of the establishment. Or because they were tired of politics.

But it was confusing. Because even though I didn’t feel like they hated me, these people were supporting someone who said I should be banned from the country. Even the father of one of my best friends supports Trump. This man had me over to his house. I went to Thanksgiving with him. My friend asked him: ‘Dad, how can you support that man? Our friend Zahra is a Muslim.’ He told her: ‘Don’t worry. He won’t do everything that he says.’

Today has been difficult. These last few weeks, it was mostly speculation. There was suspicion that most Americans supported him but I could hope that it was wrong. But now that hope is gone. And I have to feel differently.

I have to feel like maybe most Americans don’t want me here. And I feel like no matter how hard I try, I’ll never be part of the community. And even if they’re friendly to me, or if they invite me to Thanksgiving, deep down they believe that America is a country that belongs to white people.

Osman Sulaiman: Many More Pressing Issues That Concern The Malay Community Than The Elected Presidency

My community raised the issue of discrimination of Malays in RSAF.

My community raised the issue of allowing school children to wear the tudung.

My community raised the issue of allowing Hijabs in uniformed groups.

My community raised the issue of having a ‘halal kitchen’ in the navy ships.

My community raised the issue of having an independent MUIS.

My community raised the issue to legislate some form of discrimination laws.

Having a Malay president isnt the most pressing issue but yeah, it will be ‘given’ as though it’s what we need the most.

We can now celebrate the magnanimous gesture by the Gov.

Omar Suleiman: Donald Trump Won, America Lost

America lost.

Not because Hillary did, but because bigotry won. This country just elected an openly racist, sexist, obnoxious xenophobe to lead it. Gone are the days in which we could lecture any other nation on extremism or immorality. This leaves the nation bare for the world to see it for what it is.

Donald Trump doesn’t just represent the fringe of America, he represents a chunk of it.

Have I lost hope? No. I’m not going anywhere. I, and millions of others who envisioned a better nation, will continue to fight to redeem it. We thought we ditched our ugly past only to realize that our present is just as horrid.

Now that it’s undeniable, our response needs to be unparalleled. We’ve got work to do people. But God willing, we’ll get there. #electionnight

Abdul Salim Harun: PAP Must Stop Playing Racism Card

As a Singaporean Malay, I am deeply insulted with the PAP Government move to reserve the coming Presidential Election ONLY for Malay candidates.

Frankly speaking, we need an Elected President base on his ability and credibility to lead and safeguard our Reserves, and NOT because of his race.

By reserving the Presidential Election to the Malays, the PAP Government has in fact directly play the RACISM card, and looking down on the Malay Community as a whole.

What happens to the values of Democracy and Meritocracy? Shouldn’t we be electing the best of the best to be elected as the President, regardless of race, language or religion?

I will like to urge the Malay Community to speak up on this issue and say NO to this RACIST policy of the PAP Government.

Ask the PAP Government why can’t we have DPM Tharman as our next Prime Minister, as he is the best choice to bring Singapore forward compared to the rest…

MPV Taxis, Grab & Uber Discriminate Against Big Malay Families

Dear Editors,

Grab, uber and taxis, stop bring prejudice towards big group of passengers! Your fare is so expensive and your drivers now are so picky. No wonder many of them are taking bus and trains instead of using all the 3 modes of transport.

Sometimes, we Malays are going out with big families, and when we book GrabCar economy, or uber X and got an MPV like Toyota Estima, the drivers refused to pick us due to having 6 passengers, still come out with nonsense what 3 adults and 3 infant MPV cannot take. Then why uber and grab 4 seater allocate an MPV to do 4 seater job? You are the ones spoiling the market and now making we passengers suffer is it?

And taxis also another kind, why when we flag MPV taxi they still want to charge additional $3 for each additional passenger when I am travelling with 3 more adults and 3 kids which 3 years old or younger? At least make the additional passenger surcharge $3 flat regardless of how many extra passengers la eh you think very funny is it? Additional $3 per extra passenger is no joke ok?

Don’t come and give me nonsense that additional passenger means more fuel burnt ok? The bus take passengers till standing till the door those stand at the door ones paid extra?

So grab, uber and taxis, wake up your idea before more passengers switching to take bus or MRT. I am so disgraceful to have such public service providers in Singapore. All money minded jerks.
