  • Off-Duty Police Officer Saves Baby Trapped In Car

Off-Duty Police Officer Saves Baby Trapped In Car

Off-duty officer, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Koh Koon Beng, was out with his family on Sunday evening, 20 July last year. Leaving the basement car park, they were alerted to loud screams for help.

Approaching quickly, DSP Koh found a woman in her thirties standing outside a white SUV, pulling desperately at the door handles. In tears, she told DSP Koh that her baby had been trapped inside for the past ten minutes. DSP Koh assured her that he would help.

Peering through the rear windows of the car, he saw a baby about 8-months-old, strapped to the booster seat. “He was screaming and crying and my only thought was to bring him out quickly”, recounted DSP Koh. Unable to open the locked car doors and the boot, DSP Koh realised that the only way in was by breaking the glass window.

DSP Koh explained to the mother what he intended to do. With her consent, he took a steering lock he had in his car and carefully broke the left rear quarter window farthest from the baby. Putting his hand through the broken glass, DSP Koh unlocked the door and carried the child out to safety and into the arms of his very relieved mother.

Touched by the help rendered, the mother wrote to DSP Koh to thank him for dealing with the situation so calmly. She also expressed her gratitude to his wife and children for staying with her throughout the ordeal. It turned out that a mechanical fault in the car caused the auto-lock to malfunction, inadvertently locking the baby in.

When asked how he felt about the incident, the Chief Investigation Officer of Tanglin Division said, “I don’t think much of what I have done as anyone would do the same. But as a police officer, we are on duty 24/7 and I am glad to have helped.”

  • Lelaki Muslim Harus Contohi Nabi Muhammad SAW Dalam Perkahwinan

Lelaki Muslim Harus Contohi Nabi Muhammad SAW Dalam Perkahwinan

My heartfelt condolence. Share bukan utk aibkan sesiapa tapi utk jadi iktibar dan pengajaran buat kita semua.

Semoga para lelaki mendalami indahnya akhlak Rasulullah sebagai suami dan ketua keluarga sebelum berkahwin.

My husband always remind me that ‘love is not just about feelings, its commitment’. How 2 person commits to give their best, whatever it takes.

Looking at ths two, i guess im a bit demanding as well.. I pun nak Prada nak LV nak Ferragamo.. But my husband cakap, mengikut Islam, when he takes me, he takes up the responsibility to fulfill my wants and needs.. Tp i pun tak ada lah minta bukan2 frm my husband bcz i pun kerja so i can afford what i want with my own money..

I taktahu, Saif yg beritahu.. Tahu tak, kalau isteri dah biasa bersenang jadi tanggungjawab suami utk sediakan maid? Itu pun Saif beritahu.. Kenapa Saif tahu bcz he reads alot, he listens alot.. Dia bukan lelaki yg besar kepala dan bentuk marriage ikut kepala dia je dengan verdict, ikut hukum agama isteri kena patuh pada suami! Tak, Rasulullah tak berkeras dgn isteri, Baginda suami penyayang, kongsi selimut, bergurau senda, pergi pasar kemas rumah, what does that tell u? It means he was a loving man, responsible and tolerates in marriage.

EHSAN. Ini rumah bersepah marah isteri pulak instead of buat jugak. Susu anak pun tak reti nak buat. Memang tanggungjawab lelaki besar. Sebab tu, kalau tak sanggup, fikir byk kali sebelum kawin.

Indahnya perkahwinan bila suami jadikan akhlak Rasulullah sebagai his way of life and core of action.. Kerja rumah serah bulat2 kat isteri.. Duit sendiri perabih kat main bola, lepak dgn kawan, rokok. Duit isteri guna beli pampers duit dapur. Duit isteri bayar rumah bayar kereta. Itu semua tanggungjawab suami. Macam mana rezeki keluarga nak bertambah kalau isteri bagi duit dlm tak ikhlas dlm marah sbb suami tak berikan nafkah dia malah ambil pulak lagi dr dia bahagian yg sepatutnya tanggungjawab suami? Again, if the parties dah agree to swap responsibility, itu lain. Thats EHSAN.

Tapi zaman sekarang, entahlah..

  • Cancer Strikes Family: Man Survive But Loses Father, Brother

Cancer Strikes Family: Man Survive But Loses Father, Brother

Cancer killed his father and brother.

And graphic designer, Richard Lim, 39, has it too.

The Singapore permanent resident had a cancerous growth removed from his left foot in 2008 but it has reappeared.

As he went through surgery to remove a growth in March, he struggled to care for his dying father and brother.

Mr Lim’s mother, who is in her 60s, has been devastated by the loss.

He said: “She cried, ‘Why are we so unlucky? Why must all three of you be affected by cancer at the same time?’ I tried to comfort her but she was inconsolable.”

Because of his financial woes after spending thousands of dollars on medical bills, he is now receiving financial assistance from a nonprofit organisation, the Ray of Hope Initiative.

  • Red Lions Land Safely After Parachute Snag

Red Lions Land Safely After Parachute Snag

A Red Lions skydiver was involved in a midair drama yesterday when he had to cut off his parachute while descending to the Padang during the rehearsal for the National Day Parade.

The jumper, who has not been named, was the first of five.

He managed to deploy his back-up parachute before landing safely on the parade grounds to cheers from the invited crowd.

Some onlookers managed to photograph the detached parachute falling through the air. There were moments of fear that the freefaller was in danger.

The NDP executive committee insisted that yesterday’s 10-minute long freefall display “was executed as planned”.

    TENSE MOMENT

At deployment height, one of the jumpers’ first parachute went into a twist, a common occurrence while parachuting.

    SPOKESMAN, NDP executive committee

“At deployment height, one of the jumpers’ first parachute went into a twist, a common occurrence while parachuting,” a spokesman said. “The jumper assessed that he could not clear the twist in time, and cut away the first parachute to deploy his reserve parachute, landing safely within the designated area in the Padang.

“There were no injuries sustained,” the spokesman added.

Aviation enthusiast Ow Eng Tiong, 41, who regularly attends the Red Lions display which is held annually, witnessed the incident from a nearby street.

“I could see that his parachute had not opened completely,” he told The Sunday Times.

“I saw him spiralling down like a corkscrew and falling faster than usual. I knew that something was wrong. But I presume he is fine since the second parachute worked,” he added.

The last known parachute accident at the parade was in 2005, when a Red Lion fractured his pelvis as a result of a bad landing at a rehearsal. The Red Lions display, a perennial crowd favourite, takes place before the ceremonial military parade.

This year, the military parade will feature more than 2,000 people in 37 contingents, among them representatives of 16 public- and private-sector bodies.

Colonel Simon Lee, who oversees the parade and ceremony segment, said 42 companies and organisations had applied to march on Aug 9.

Col Lee said: “There is only so much we can pack in. We want a good mix to show the various facets of total defence… we select those that best represent the Singapore identity.”

Among the marchers will be Sembcorp Design and Construction managing director and former People’s Association chief, Mr Yam Ah Mee, 58.

The former air force brigadier- general, who will lead the Sembcorp contingent, said: “The chance to march in a Jubilee parade does not come by often. I can also catch up with old friends and bond with all the youth.”
