Polis Thai Tangkap ‘Raja Dadah ASEAN’ Yang Juga Seludup Dadah Ke Singapura

Setiausaha Agung Pejabat Lembaga Kawalan Dadah Thailand Sirinya Sithichai berkata

  • ‘Regrettable’ Malaysia Called For Extraordinary Session Of OIC On Rohingya: Myanmar

‘Regrettable’ Malaysia Called For Extraordinary Session Of OIC On Rohingya: Myanmar

In a statement released to Channel NewsAsia on Friday (Jan 20), the Myanmar government said Malaysia’s decision to call for an Extraordinary Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday was “regrettable”.

During the session, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak called on Myanmar to stop all discrimination and attacks on Rohingya Muslims, and urged the world’s Islamic countries to act to end an unfolding “humanitarian tragedy”.

“It is regrettable that Malaysia, a fellow ASEAN Member disregarding the basic norms of the Association, feels it fit to call and muster (an) Extraordinary Session of OIC to take on Myanmar’s Rakhine Issue,” said the Foreign Ministry statement.

“Myanmar understands that Malaysia’s concerns sprang from salacious media news portraying dire human rights situations without any factual analysis. It is more regrettable that this complex and sensitive issue has been exploited to suit a certain political agenda.”

It added that Malaysia’s action is also tantamount to total disregard of the genuine efforts being made by Myanmar government to resolve the issue.

“No one is more concerned about peace, security and stability of Rakhine State than the government and the people of Myanmar.

“Therefore, the Government is genuinely committed to resolving this issue. The government has put into place many mechanisms to comprehensively resolve the issues – such as the Central Committee on Implementation of Peace, Stability and Development of Rakhine State with four work committees focusing on all relevant areas, including the citizenship verification process.

“This was followed by establishment of Rakhine Advisory Committee headed by Kofi Annan, to give balanced, credible and just international perspectives into the resolution of the Rakhine issue. The Investigation Commission was also formed to immediately look into the causes of recent incidents.”

The statement concluded by saying that the interests of the two communities “will be best served by focusing on finding lasting solutions to the issue rather than asserting undue external pressure and interference that would add more complexity to the already” complicated issue.

  • Myanmar Calls ASEAN Talks Over Rohingya

Myanmar Calls ASEAN Talks Over Rohingya

[YANGON] Myanmar has called an emergency Asean meeting to discuss the Rohingya crisis, a diplomat said Monday, as regional tensions deepen over a bloody military crackdown on the country’s Muslim minority.

More than 20,000 Rohingya have flooded into Bangladesh over the past two months, fleeing a military campaign in Myanmar’s western Rakhine state.

Their stories of mass rape and murder at the hands of security forces have galvanised protests in Muslim nations around the region, with Buddhist-majority Myanmar facing diplomatic pressure from its neighbours.

Last week Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak lashed out at Myanmar’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi for allowing “genocide” on her watch, speaking before thousands of angry protesters in Kuala Lumpur.

Myanmar, which has vehemently denied the accusations, responded by angrily summoning Malaysia’s ambassador and banning its workers from going to the country.

A diplomatic source in the Philippines confirmed Myanmar had invited them for an emergency Asean meeting to discuss “the Rohingya issue”.

The source declined to give more details on the meeting, which the Nikkei reported would be held in Yangon on Dec 19. Myanmar officials could not be reached for comment.

The bloodshed presents the biggest challenge to Nobel Peace prize winner Ms Suu Kyi since her party won the country’s first democratic elections in a generation last year.

Last week the UN’s special adviser on Myanmar criticised her handling of the crisis, saying it had “caused frustration locally and disappointment internationally”.

Ms Suu Kyi also held talks over Rakhine with the foreign minister of Indonesia, after cancelling a visit to the country in November following protests and an attempted attack on the Myanmar embassy.

State media report almost 100 people have been killed – 17 soldiers and 76 suspects – in the army operation in Rakhine that followed deadly raids on police border posts on Oct 9.

That includes six suspects who died during interrogations, the Global New Light of Myanmar said on Saturday, out of some 575 people who have been detained.

Advocacy groups put the death toll in the hundreds, but foreign journalists and independent investigators have been barred from visiting the area to verify the figures.

With the crisis showing no sign of abating, the government over the weekend extended a 7.00pm to 6.00am curfew across the locked-down area for another two months.

  • Indonesian VP Jusuf Kalla: World Should Be Thankful For Fresh Air From Indonesia

Indonesian VP Jusuf Kalla: World Should Be Thankful For Fresh Air From Indonesia

Indonesian Vice-President Jusuf Kalla also reminded Indonesia’s neighbours not to complain when there is haze in the region. He said: “Malaysia and Singapore get angry because of the forest fires. It’s so easy to say, but you think we also don’t feel it? We feel it even more. Secondly, if you get fresh air from Sumatra, Kalimantan, you don’t say thank you. So, if you get the haze, why should I apologise?

“The world has to pay for all of this. Don’t always accuse Indonesia. I never want to be accused. Even if we are wrong, why do we still give out so many permits (for land)?”

Forest fires in Indonesia has been an annual problem, resulting in haze that blankets and choke parts of the country and the region. The fires are caused by farmers and corporations using the slash-and-burn method, which is the easiest, and cheapest, to clear the land for plantation.

  • Damanhuri Abas: Military Action In Myanmar Against Rohingya Amounting To Genocide

Damanhuri Abas: Military Action In Myanmar Against Rohingya Amounting To Genocide

This is happening in an ASEAN country. Its becoming a genocide. Countries behave only when they are pressured and cannot get away with abusing their own people or others. The International rule of law is selectively used and influenced by those with much power in the world.

This BBC report is juz the tip of the iceberg. There are much more brutal accounts via photos and videos on social media that we may have seen but seem helpless to do anything about.

At the very least we must raise our collective voice to create awareness via whatever platforms we may have some sphere of influence. We need to make people aware about this brutal killings currently taking place in that country.

ASEAN countries must pressure Myanmmar to stop this genocide of its marginalized Rohingya people.

    Al-Quran, Surah 4. An-Nisa (The Women), Verse 75:

    Translation:
And why do you not fight for the cause of God, while the weak among the men and the women and the children are crying: Our Lord! Bring us out of this town whose people are cruel oppressors! And, send us Your aid, and send us Your protector!
