(Appeal For Witness) Old Man Injured From Fall At Bishan MRT Station

My father got injured very badly in an accident on a train, we need witnesses to help assist in investigations. Contact information at the end of the post. This is a pretty long post, that is also an appeal for witnesses, which I very much hope will be shared as much as possible to help assist in investigations. A police report has been made and SMRT Bishan CCL staff are also aware of this case.

On the 5th of September, my father was travelling on the Marina Bay/Dhoby Ghaut bound train on the CCL. At around 4.20pm, he tried to alight at Bishan, from the last cabin. In his attempt to alight, other passengers were boarding and he was pushed back into the train where he subsequently fell, breaking his right femur (in 3 sections) which also dislodged from his pelvis. There was no apology for the person who pushed him and no one around him offered any form of assistance. (I understand it is best in such a situation physical assistance should be limited, but there is nothing wrong with asking after him or trying to defuse the situation) It saddens me to say this but my father remembered clearly as well that it was crowded, but somehow after he fell there was suddenly a large ring that formed around and away from him.

I understand the accidents do happen, but the act of barging is a conscious one and definitely not accidental, with zero compassion or awareness and blatant disregard for social consequences. I have nothing but gratitude to offer to the SMRT Bishan CCL staff who responded quickly to assist and accompany him while the ambulance was arriving to convey him to TTSH, and if there was someone who alerted the staff, thank you as well. As well as the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) staff and team who have and are helping to put my father on the best road to recovery which will be long and painful. And the AS at Ang Mo Kio South Neighbourhood Police Centre who was extremely helpful and informative when I lodged the report this morning.

I sincerely hope that if you read this, please do myself and my family a favour, to just share this post in hopes of reaching anyone that was there, or knew anyone that was there to have witnessed this to at least offer some assistance in form of a witness account or statement. This is a man who has never fallen down for as long as I can remember, obviously outside of forces that cause him to, who has suffered so much throughout his 40 odd years since he came to Singapore, through multiple injuries sustained not on his own accord or fault. He does not deserve this now, especially not at 72 years old. Neither does anyone else, to be put in such a situation where public transport has become a blood sport. We appreciate any help that anyone can provide whatever the chances may be through Facebook. Below are the relevant contact numbers in the event that someone has information. My personal contact 9365 3275.

  • Students Caught Trying To Break Ofo Bike In Bishan

Students Caught Trying To Break Ofo Bike In Bishan

The number of bicycle abuse cases have been on the rise since bike-sharing initiatives were introduced in Singapore.

Stomper Erica came across a student abusing an ofo bike near a block of flats in Bishan yesterday (July 25), between 4pm to 5pm.

When she got home, her son showed her a video of the same student which had been posted on Instagram.

Erica forwarded the video to Stomp.

In the video, a group of boys, some of whom were in uniforms, were at a basketball court.

A bespectacled boy then moved the ofo bicycle near a grass patch, and declared, ‘now you break the ofo bike’, before pushing the bike without getting on.

The riderless bicycle moved a short distance before collapsing on the ground.

Throughout the video, the words, ‘breaking OFOFO’ were displayed.

    Said Erica:

“It’s very sad to see students abusing these ofo bikes.

“What’s worse, they recorded a video and posted it on Instagram, thinking that it is cool to do so!”

  • Man, 25, Arrested In Connection To Unnatural Death Of 61-Year-Old In Bishan Flat

Man, 25, Arrested In Connection To Unnatural Death Of 61-Year-Old In Bishan Flat

A 61-year-old man was found dead in the living room of his Bishan Housing Board flat on Saturday (Sept 24).

A 25-year-old man, believed to be his son, has been arrested in connection to the unnatural death case.

Police said they were alerted at about 8.20pm to the unit at Block 152B Bishan Street 11.

It is understood that at least one neighbour reported about noise on the fifth storey. It is believed that things were being thrown around.

The older man was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at about 9pm. No visible injuries were seen on him.

When The Straits Times arrived on the scene, police had cordoned off the corridor on the fifth storey.

Some police officers were seen leaving the scene with evidence at about 12.30am on Sunday (Sept 25).

A neighbour, who lives on the fourth story and wanted to be known as Ms Yaya, 33, said: “It’s normal to hear quarrelling upstairs in the last few days. It happens during the evening and lasts for only a few minutes.”

About 15 relatives, including the deceased’s wife, were seen at the void deck of the block at about 1am. She later broke down, as relatives hugged her.

The 25-year-old man is her younger son, according to a relative who declined to be named.  Investigations are ongoing.

  • Mother Slaps Boy Who Knocked Into Her Son At School

Mother Slaps Boy Who Knocked Into Her Son At School

A pupil accidently knocked into his classmate on Tuesday (July 21).

It should have been a small incident quickly sorted out between kids turned into something big when a parent decided to take matters into her own hands.

The incident is believed to have happened at a primary school in the Bishan area.

The friend of the pupil’s mother, Madam Huang, described to Lianhe Wanbao the series of events she says took place after the initial knock..

According to her, the mother of the classmate found out about the incident while dropping her son off at school the next day.

The angry parent then slapped a boy – whom she thought was responsible – in front of his classmates, said Madam Huang.

When she found out she had hit the wrong boy, she continued to look for the real “perpetrator”, and slapped that boy as well.

Madam Huang claimed the woman told the boy: “This is how it feels like to be slapped.”

    Shocked, upset

The two boys who were slapped were shocked and upset, said Madam Huang.

Lianhe Wanbao understands that the school arranged for the parents of all three boys to meet on Friday (July 24) and that the woman apologised for her actions.

But the parents of the two boys who were slapped made a police report later that day as they felt the apology was insincere and that the woman’s story did not match-up with other details of the incident.

Police confirmed that a police report had been made.

  • Bishan Gay Gets 12 Months Jail for Molesting 12 Year Old Boy In Mall Toilet

Bishan Gay Gets 12 Months Jail for Molesting 12 Year Old Boy In Mall Toilet

A part-time tutor who sometimes refers to himself as “the Bishan gay” was sentenced to 12 months’ jail on Friday for molesting a 12-year-old boy in a mall toilet.

Cheng Hoe Huat was found guilty after a two-day trial of touching the student’s private parts in the male toilet of Bishan Junction 8 shopping centre on Nov 13, 2013.

The 52-year-old, who was unrepresented, is appealing. Bail of $30,000 was allowed.

During the trial, the prosecution called 13 witnesses, including the victim, his four friends, a child psychologist and teacher.

Cheng had approached a group of boys, including the victim, to “conduct a survey on sex education”.

The victim accompanied him to the toilet as he thought Cheng, who was using a walking stick, needed help.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Amanda Chong argued that the victim was an “unusually convincing witness”. The only discrepancy was in his memory of the exact toilet cubicle where the incident happened.

She said Cheng’s defence was unsupported by any corroboration.

District Judge Lee Poh Choo said that although the CCTV footage from the mall was not clear, images of the victim and Cheng walking together could be made out.

Although Cheng denied knowing the victim and his friends, the judge said the boys, who were then 11 or 12, had positively identified him as the “old man” or “old uncle” who befriended them at Bishan Junction 8 and molested the victim.

“These are young and resourceful boys as together, they secretly videoed the accused. This video clip was important evidence establishing the accused’s presence at the location on that day,” she said.

Judge Lee said she found that the four boys had been “honest and frank”, and did not embellish their evidence.

She agreed with the DPP that they had no motive to lie against Cheng, and convicted him of the charge.

The maximum penalty for molesting any person under 14 years old is five years’ jail, fine and caning.
