Fatal ‘Hit-And-Run’ Accident On SLE Involving 23-Year-Old Rider; Police Investigating

A 23-year-old male motorcyclist died in a hit-and-run accident on Seletar Expressway (SLE) on Sunday (Sept 10) afternoon.

Police were alerted to the accident, which occurred in the direction of Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE), at 1.33pm.

The motorcyclist was taken unconscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said he had suffered from traumatic arrest – which meant his heart stopped beating – and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered en route to the hospital.

The hospital was alerted to be on standby to receive him. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The Straits Times understands he suffered a head injury and a fractured left arm.

His pillion rider, a 22-year-old man, was conscious when taken to KTPH, and had abrasions on his left limb.

    Police investigations are ongoing.

At 1.59pm, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) tweeted about the accident, saying there was “congestion” until the Woodlands Avenue 2 exit, and that motorists should avoid the second and third lanes.

There was still heavy traffic as of 4.01pm.

  • BKE Fatal Accident: Two Motorcyclists Dead, Six Hospitalised, Van Driver Arrested

BKE Fatal Accident: Two Motorcyclists Dead, Six Hospitalised, Van Driver Arrested

At least two motorcyclists died and six were injured in a collision involving nine motorcycles and a van along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) on Saturday (March 11) afternoon.

The 25-year-old van driver was arrested for a rash act causing death. His driving licence will be suspended with immediate effect, the police said.

The two motorcyclists, aged 34 and 50, were pronounced dead at the scene. Six other injured motorcyclists were conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

Police said they were alerted to the accident at 3.49pm.

Videos posted on Facebook and circulated on WhatsApp show at least two police tents at the area under the Seletar Expressway (SLE) flyover, towards Woodlands near the SLE exit.

According to a message circulating on WhatsApp, the motorcyclists had sought shelter under the flyover due to the rain when the accident occurred.

The video accompanying the message shows six men sprawled on the ground, with two bleeding.

Another video, posted by Facebook user Aishah Osman, shows police vehicles at the scene, with at least nine motorcycles at the side. Some of them had toppled over and looked damaged. An ambulance was also seen.

At 6.24pm when ST went down to the scene, the area had been cordoned off by police, and traffic police investigators were on site.

Relatives of the casualties were also there.

One motorcyclist who had been taking shelter from the rain and whose bike had been slightly damaged told ST that “it was chaotic”.

    Investigations are ongoing.

The police have urged the public not to circulate photos or videos of the deceased, out of respect for the families.

  • Man Hospitalised After His Motorcycle Hit A Wild Boar On BKE

Man Hospitalised After His Motorcycle Hit A Wild Boar On BKE

A 25-year-old man has been hospitalised after hitting a wild boar with his motorcycle on the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) on Sunday night (Nov 13) – in the second road accident involving the porcine creature this year (2016).

Both times, both wild boars died.

The accident on Sunday happened at around 7pm on the BKE heading towards the Pan Island Expressway, after the Dairy Farm Road exit, reported Chinese evening newspaper Shin Min Daily News on Monday.

It said the motorcyclist, who was not identified, had lost control of his bike after trying to avoid hitting the animal.

He skidded and landed in the right-most lane of the expressway.

The man was subsequently warded at the intensive care unit of the National University Hospital and was said to still be unconscious as of Monday morning (Nov 14), with bandages on his head, face and left hand.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call about the accident at 7.18pm and dispatched an ambulance to the scene.

A 48-year-old cabby, who wanted to be known only as Mr Zhang, told the Chinese paper the boar was about 1m long and appeared to have run out from the forested area on to the BKE.

This is believed to be the second road accident involving a wild boar this year (2016).

In April another motorcyclist, identified as 49-year-old senior manager Mr Krishnan, fractured his right shoulder after running into and killing a wild boar on the Seletar Expressway.

In May, a boy was hospitalised after being injured by a wild boar near Edgefield Plains in Punggol.
