    Seeking Forgiveness For Any Wrongdoings; A Yearly Hari Raya Practice

    This is one of the yearly Hari Raya practices from our culture that I truly believe in and treasure. Recently, there were many debates about its relevance and importance. Many who do not fully understand the rationale behind the action will simply brush it off as insignificant to the point of it being almost a ridiculous practice. I beg to differ in opinion.

    While I agree that we have to apologise for our mistakes to the ones we hurt as soon as we have made them and not wait to do it during Hari Raya, we may not always be conscious or aware of our wrongdoings. Others may not be open enough to point out our mistakes/wrongdoings/transgressions/misdeeds and would rather keep the hurt to themselves.

    So, as we celebrate the blessed day with a fresh outlook in life filled with positivity and hope after the cleansing of the mind, body and soul during Ramadhan, it is only logical and befitting to ask others for their forgiveness for any or our wrongdoings whether they were done intentionally or otherwise…consciously or unconsciously. The very reason why we always start the seeking of forgiveness dialogue with “Kalau (if) ada salah dan silap sengaja atau tidak (there is any wrongdoings done intentionally or otherwise), TERkasar bahasa dan perbuatan (unintentional misdeeds and harsh words), TERmakan dan TERminum (unintentional consumption of food/drinks without others’ permission)….”. When we seek forgiveness, we learn to let go of our ego and realise that we are not above everyone else. When we forgive someone, we learn that we are not above God who is ever-willing to forgive no matter how big our sins may be.

    Couple In Viral Toa Payoh Hawker Centre Dispute Charged

    A couple involved in a dispute over a table at a hawker centre in Toa Payoh were charged in court on Thursday (June 15).

    Chow Chuin Yee, 45, is accused of using criminal force by using his body to forcefully barge against 76-year-old Ng Ai Hua, alias Ivor Ng. He is also alleged to have behaved in a disorderly manner by pushing some bowls and plates off the table onto the ground.

    His wife, Tay Puay Leng, 38, was charged with using abusive words on Mr Ng with the intent to cause alarm.

    Police arrested them on April 25.

    Their lawyer S. Balamurugan asked for time to make representations. The couple will be back in court on July 12.

    If convicted, Tay can be fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed for up to six months. The maximum penalty for using criminal force is three months’ jail and a $1,500 fine, and for disorderly behaviour, $2,000 and six months’ jail.

    Inconsiderate Uncle Refused To Give Up Seat To Stroke Patient

    I had like to share an incident to everyone that my mom had encountered on 27th August 2015 Thursday 1509hrs travelling on bus number 60 (SBS8831S) from Bedok Interchange to Bedok Reservoir Road.

    This uncle who is in his 60s who was very inconsiderate when my mom was asking him to move his packet of toilet roll for her to sit down. The Uncle insist NO and said that his items should not be on the ground.

    My mom was a partial stroke patient and had to use a walking stick to help balance herself when she walks. I’m glad that a lady who witness the incident then gave up her seat to my mom.

    It’s very sad to see such inconsiderate people in our society. I do hope to spread and share about this uncle so that this article will reach him one day.

    Eldery Man Found Dead At Foot Of Block Near Hougang MRT

    Stomper Roumimper Rayedem came across the shocking sight of a man’s body at the foot of an HDB block near Hougang MRT station this morning (Aug 26).

    He then spoke to another girl who had discovered the body and together, they called the police.

    Photos sent in by the Stomper show the man’s twisted body on the ground as well as police officers covering it with a white sheet.

    It is unclear which block this incident took place at. The cause of the man’s death is also unknown.

    Roumimper Rayedem said in a phone interview:

    “This Wednesday morning at about 9.57am, I was walking along the HDB flats and on my way to Hougang MRT station.

    “I found a body lying on the ground and noticed that he was an elderly man.

    “To my shock, I realised that I needed to do something. I called 999/995 for help immediately with the help of a girl who also discovered the body.”

    RSAF ME Shelters Elderly Man Waiting For Cab In The Rain

    A kind soldier was seen sheltering an elderly man, who was waiting for a taxi, from the pouring rain on Monday morning.

    In a heart-warming photo captured by a photojournalist from Shin Min Daily News, Mr Christopher Ang, a military expert with the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), is seen holding an umbrella while he stands next to the elderly man in Bedok North.

    According to the evening daily, Mr Pargan Singh, 78, was waiting for a taxi to take him to Changi General Hospital for a medical appointment when he was caught in the downpour.

    The retiree suffered a stroke 15 years ago which impaired his movement and affected his speech.

    In an interview with Shin Min, Mr Pargan said that his wife and children had left for work earlier and his maid had to stay home to care for his 92-year-old father. It was only drizzling when he left the house, so he did not bring an umbrella. But it started to pour as he waited for a taxi.

    Mr Ang had approached Mr Pargan with an umbrella and waited with him for about 20 minutes before he managed to hail a taxi. After Mr Pargan boarded the cab, Mr Ang headed towards his own vehicle at a nearby carpark.

    The photograph of the two men, which was posted on Shin Min’s Facebook page on Monday, has garnered nearly 1,500 likes, with many netizens praising the young man for his kindness.

    In a post on Facebook on Tuesday, the RSAF also saluted the soldier for his act of kindness.
