Grab Singapore Driver Meets Baby Born In His Car

Almost two weeks after a woman gave birth to a baby boy in the backseat of his car during a Grab ride to the National University Hospital (NUH), Alvinder Singh reunited with the newborn and his parents. The 28-year-old operations manager on Friday (25 Aug) visited airport emergency officer Musaddiq Khamis, 27, and his wife Liyana, 28, at the Upper Serangoon home where little Ahmad Luqmaan has been staying since his discharge from hospital.

Singh had picked up Musaddiq and Liyana on 12 Aug through a Grabcar booking, which came with the message “pregnant wife in labour”. The couple did not call an ambulance as they thought they would have enough time to get to the hospital. Singh, who has only been driving with Grab for two months, said that he started hearing the cries of a child during the journey to NUH. “I looked back and he’s (Musaddiq) is smiling with the biggest smile in the world. Proud father,” he recounted.

    Being prepared

For Musaddiq and Liyana, having a baby outside the hospital may not have been planned, but antenatal classes the couple had taken prior to the birth of their son helped prepare them for the possibility. Musaddiq’s experience of being prepared to deal with emergencies also played a part. “He knew how to comfort me when I was having labour pains. It’s important for a husband to keep calm so his energy can ‘spill’ onto me,” Liyana said with a laugh.

Offering some advice to fathers-to-be, Musaddiq said the birth of a child is not just a “one-way” street. “The husband also has a part to play. Words of affirmation…reaffirms that ‘we can do this’. It’s not a one-man show, or a one-lady show. That’s something we managed to perform in an emergency,” Musaddiq said. “I can vouch for that,” Singh chipped in. “He did amazing.”

    Keeping in touch

While the couple said they would probably wait until their son had at least reached Primary One before telling him the story of his birth, Singh said he hoped to visit the family again when the infant is slightly older and can have more interactions with him. “He’s also a soccer coach… can consider,” Musaddiq said of Singh. Singh visited Musaddiq and Liyana together with Grab Singapore country head Lim Kell Jay and Andrew Chan, head of Grabcar Singapore. The two Grab officials presented Musaddiq and Liyana with a Grab voucher worth $8,000, and fuel vouchers worth $800 to Singh.

GrabCar Driver Kena Trolled By Wannabe-Hantu, Pickup At Pusara Abadi

I hope you’re ashamed of yourself, making jokes out of grab drivers.

They’re just trying to make a living. He made my boy drive to the cemetery at this timing, choosing cash as payment mode.

    I’m so pissed.

  • My Children Almost Fell Out Of GrabCar Vehicle

My Children Almost Fell Out Of GrabCar Vehicle

    Dear all,

I booked from ‪#‎GrabCar‬ SKP8502B driver Ong Seng Thye H/p: 91075682/81389062 using his private car earlier this evening at about 6pm from Clementi Mall back home. I was with my husb, my helper & 2 kids.

Along the way, my son pulled the left passenger door handle. I wasn’t aware just by doing that it caused the door to open slightly even when it is locked. The driver pulled over by the side & my helper closed the door. He then said even if the door is locked it can still be open from the inside. My husb asked “then what’s the point of locking if it can still be open?”. He told my husb to give a try which he did & yes the door could be open after locking! He added the lock is to only prevent opening from the outside but not inside.

We continued our journey, my daughter who is seated at the right of the passenger seat then meddled with the door handle causing it to open slightly. This dont usually happen but after the commotion earlier she saw my helper & husb open & close the door she suddenly grab the door handle & pulled. Knowing this, the driver said “see now the right door open, if your daughter fall i dont know”. This time he did not stop the car instead he made a sharp and fast left turn & the right door fully opened. My daughter nearly fell off the car if I didn’t hold on to her! He only stopped the car when my husb asked him to. I closed the door quickly afterwards.

He commented saying he never had this kind of prob not once but twice the door accidentally opened. He told us our kids was the problem. After he dropped us off we paid the fare my husb asked him what was his prob. He said his prob was our kids. He even added that we didnt know how to educate our kids. My husb wasn’t happy of course asked him to step off the car. But he refused he said he was going to call the police. We then told him to call the police at that moment while we wait for them to arrive. But he insisted he will go and make a report himself.

Tried calling #GrabCar hotline but to no avail. On my part, a police report had been lodged by me. Is it my fault if his lock was faulty or whatever reason for it to open after locking? What do you expect in a 5 seater car with 4 adults(including driver) & 2 young kids aged 1 & 4? Purposely continuing driving & even made a sharp turned which caused my daughter to almost fall off the car is absurd!!! She could have fell off & hit the curb!

If the vehicle he is using is supplied by #GrabCar please look into the lock matter. Young kids are curious they will touch & meddle with everything and anything. So it is not surprising for them to meddle with the door handle. & knowing the door can be open from inside even when it is lock is very dangerous especially with young kids on board!

Today, i might be lucky my daughter didn’t fell off the car & hit the curb. But tomorrow it can happen to anyone else. This is not my first time booking under #GrabCar, i never had any kind of prob with the other drivers. DO NOT BOOK FROM ONG SENG THYE, SKP8502B!!

  • Grabcar Driver Disputes Girl’s Version Of Story

Grabcar Driver Disputes Girl’s Version Of Story

The cabby who allegedly dropped a female passenger off in the middle of Geylang at 4am has responded with his side of the story.

In a Facebook post that has now gone viral, the passenger Adeline A. Lok said the cabby had shouted insults and vulgarities at her after demanding that she get off his cab.

This was allegedly over a dispute about an SG50 promotion that reportedly entitled passengers to a $5 fare discount if a booking was made via the Grab Taxi app. Passengers had to key in a promotional code while making their booking.

The cabby, Mr Tong, clarified that while he knows of the ongoing promotion, he was advised to only give the $5 discount to passengers who had received a notification saying that the promotional code keyed in is valid. The cabby said if the code was valid, he would also have been notified of it via SMS.

However, Mr Tong said that even though the female passenger alleged that she had keyed in a code, she could not show proof that she was entitled to the $5 discount.

Also, he did not receive any SMS notification about this.

He explained he had four cases in the last week where he could not claim the $5 discount back. Hence, he had to bear the $20 discount he had given out and was more careful about the promotion this week.

In a phone conversation with Stomp, he said:

“The passenger kept demanding she get the discount and said she will only pay me $7, instead of the usual fee of about $12.

“I then gave her an alternative. I told her I will drop her off at the next exit if she still refuses to pay me the full fare and I will not take a single cent from her.

“She then shouted vulgarities at me. I was naturally provoked and I scolded her out of anger.

“I know I shouldn’t have done that on hindsight, but she was being very rude.

“The next exit, as I was travelling on the Ubi KPE, was Sims Avenue and that is where I stopped her so that she could get another vehicle.

“It is not at the red light district area but it is the stretch where there is a row of durian stalls and coffee shops. Now, these shops were not closed and the place was brightly lit up.

“I told her to get off my cab and said I will not charge her, but she instead kept saying that she will call the police.

“She also said she will sit in my cab until the police arrived.

“At this juncture, I also called the police and they arrive within 15 minutes.

“When I explained the situation to them, the passenger realised she could not do anything because she did not have proof that she was entitled to the discount in the first place.

“Now, she is trying to “shame” me on the Internet. I did not even realise that she had taken my picture.

“I feel the situation is unfair as I was merely being cautious about the discount as I did not want to bear the cost of it again. I also told her I will not charge her for the journey and dropped her off at a place where she could have easily gotten on another cab.”
