  • Sultan Of Johor ‘Declines Offer To Be Next King’

Sultan Of Johor ‘Declines Offer To Be Next King’

Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has said he declined an offer to be the next Malaysian king because “he wants to strictly adhere to the rotation system”.

He disclosed this in a Facebook post late on Friday night, hours after the Conference of Rulers ended a three-day meeting by choosing the Sultan of Kelantan, Muhammad V, as the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Under Malaysia’s unique monarchy system, the hereditary rulers from the nine states on the peninsula take turns to be the country’s head of state for a five-year term.

The Johor ruler said in his Facebook posting that, contrary to social media reports, he declined the offer to become the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong because he wanted to strictly adhere to the rotation system set by the Conference of Rulers.

He added: “Under this time-tested succession pattern, the Sultan of Kelantan is next in line, followed by the Sultan of Pahang. Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar respects and understands the rule of succession by rotation and wishes to abide by this.”

The Johor Sultan’s Facebook post raised some eyebrows.

“It is very rare for details of discussions in a Rulers’ Council meeting to be disclosed to the public,” said Mr Wan Saiful Wan Jan, chief executive of think-tank the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs.

The British-educated Muhammad V, 47, who is the current deputy king, will be the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong since Malaysia’s independence. He succeeds 88-year-old Kedah ruler Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, whose reign as king officially ends on Dec 12.

There was a surprising turn of events in the selection of the next deputy king, according to The Star newspaper.

Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, 59, was chosen as deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong although Pahang ruler Sultan Ahmad Shah was next in line for the post, the newspaper said. Sultan Ahmad, who will soon turn 86, was seen being driven in a yellow buggy inside the palace to attend the meeting on the first day of the rulers’ conference.

For the first time, both the newly selected king and his deputy are a generation younger than most of the other rulers, The Star noted.

Under the federal Constitution, the role of Yang di-Pertuan Agong is mostly ceremonial. He acts as the head of Islam and appoints Cabinet ministers and senior judges on the advice of the prime minister.

The chairman of this year’s Conference of Rulers was the Johor Sultan, but the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, chaired the final day’s special meeting to select the king and his deputy, according to The Star.

Voting for the new king is usually done via a secret ballot handed out by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal during the special election meeting. A majority of five votes is required before the chairman presiding over the meeting offers the office of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to the nominee.

  • Kind Malaysian Man Helped Stranded Singaporean Couple Pay To Tow Car, Couple Hasn’t Repaid Him

Kind Malaysian Man Helped Stranded Singaporean Couple Pay To Tow Car, Couple Hasn’t Repaid Him

Good morning folks. I’m from JB. On 04/10/15 around 9am, I saw a Honda Odyssey 2006 black or bronze not sure, registration number SGH 3105 L was parked by the roadside with the hood open near Petronas Jalan Bukit Chagar.

I stopped my car to help and I saw a Malay couple was in the car. The guy’s name was Mohd Sharel and the girl was Syazwani if I’m not mistaken. According to them, he worked as a bouncer at an Indian pub in SG and lives in Jurong. After talking to them, they said they just bought a new battery for the car but before going in SG, the car broke down.

Even after trying to jump start several times. After several workshop guys came to see, they have mentioned to bring to workshop to diagnose the car. Almost 1 hour plus i was with him to figure out a way for him. He said he wants to tow the car back to SG since he bought this car from a used car dealer recently so they provide warranty but he has no money and no one is answering his call to help.

I called a friend of mine who does towing services and asked the price to tow back to SG. It was RM750. He asked if I could help him to pay first and then later after a week he will come back JB to pay me. Out of goodwill I paid but almost 1 year now and there’s no news. He is still using the same number, he answers but he acts as if he doesn’t know me. Attached some pictures. Just be careful with both of them. Please share the post to create awareness.

  • Singaporean Almost Loses Son In JB After BMW Was Stolen

Singaporean Almost Loses Son In JB After BMW Was Stolen

He left his seven-year-old son alone in his BMW for five minutes as he ran an errand while in Johor Baru.

When he returned, both the car and his son were gone.

He had to wait for what must have seemed like a lifetime, before he was reunited with his son, six hours later.

The boy was found unhurt about 6km away from where he was taken, reported Shin Min Daily News.

It all started at about 4pm last Saturday (Aug 20), when the man in his 50s left his son in the car while he went to buy milk powder.

The white BMW was parked in front of a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) shop at Taman Melodies, a suburb in Johor Baru.

Speaking to the Chinese daily, the TCM shopkeeper, known only as Mr Lee, 61, said the man went into the shop and bought two tins of milk powder worth RM180 (S$60).

He left after paying, but returned to change one of the milk powder tins.

When he left again after five minutes, he found that the Singapore-registered car was gone, along with his son in it.

Mr Lee told Shin Min that the man became flustered and borrowed his phone, attempting to call his own phone that he had left in the car.

But he could not get through.

He then called the Malaysian Police to make a report.

Pictures of the boy were uploaded on Facebook shortly after the boy and car went missing, with the posts asking others to look out for the boy.

The posts, put on behalf of the man, were widely circulated with at least 7,000 shares.

Mr Lee said the man told him that he had not locked the car doors.

Thankfully, the boy was found unhurt later that day, at about 10pm, around the Danga Bay area.

But the car has yet to be found.

The police confirmed that a police report of the incident was made.

Shin Min also spoke to workers in the Taman Melodies area, who said that the area was relatively safe, though people were still advised to be careful.

A photo of the boy after he was found was later uploaded to Facebook to show concerned netizens that he was safe.
