    LTA: No Collision On The Sengkang LRT Line

    You might have come across a The Straits Times article today about 2 LRT trains colliding on the Sengkang line last evening (3 Jul 2017).

    LTA and SBS Transit Ltd would like to clarify that the article is erroneous and misleading, as there was no collision on the Sengkang LRT system.

    The incident last evening involved a coupled two-car train which had stalled in between the Sengkang Town Centre and Renjong Stations. The two Light Rail Vehicles were travelling as one train on the system.

    The sudden stalling may have caused some passengers who were not holding onto the standing poles/grab bars to lose their balance, and may have given the wrong impression that the trailing train-car had hit the one in front. SBS Transit staff subsequently reset the fault and manually drove the coupled train to Renjong Station to detrain passengers safely.

    Surge Pricing Proposal Approved – Cannot Find Taxi, Be Prepared To Pay More

    The Public Transport Council (PTC) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) have approved proposals from taxi companies and ride-hailing app Grab to implement surge pricing in the form of flat fares for trips booked via mobile applications.

    In a joint media statement, PTC and LTA said: “The companies have informed LTA and PTC that this will be introduced as an additional option for commuters to book a taxi, on top of the current metered fare taxi bookings. We have no objections to the proposals.”

    Just like private hire cars booked via Grab and Uber, the cost of a taxi trip booked through a mobile app will vary according to demand. Peak hour trips will cost more, while off-peak trips will cost less.

    Separately, SMRT Taxis has inked an exclusive partnership with Grab to enable all SMRT taxi drivers to use Grab as the only ride hailing app for taxi bookings. Both companies are also collaborating to offer customers dynamic fixed fares for taxi trips booked via Grab. This lets customers know the fare for their intended trip before the start of the journey.

    According to a Grab spokesman, “Dynamic fixed fares are displayed upfront, and already accounts for travel time, distance, booking fees, and real-time demand and supply for taxis. SMRT taxi drivers who accept bookings via this new Grab service enjoy fixed, competitive fares for their service.”

    Metered fares continue to apply for street-hail pickups as well as phone and GrabTaxi bookings.

    Managing Director for SMRT Taxis and Private Hire Services, Tony Heng, said: “The market has evolved and matured significantly, and more customers are now open to having dynamic fixed fares for their taxi rides. This partnership with Grab allows us to keep the pricing for our services competitive, catering to different customer needs and preferences.”

    Melvin Vu, Head of GrabTaxi Singapore, added that Grab has been engaging the authorities since December on implementing dynamic fixed fares for taxis. “The current taxi fare model does not account for real-time passenger demand and driver supply, which often means that passengers pay a surcharge even when there are many available taxis within the vicinity. Dynamic fixed fares ensure that taxis are better utilised throughout the day and passengers enjoy more affordable rides based on real-time market demands, while not eliminating metered fares.”

    Power-Assisted Bicycle Impounded In LTA Enforcement Operation

    As part of our regular enforcement, LTA conducts periodic enforcement operations against the riding of non-compliant Power Assisted Bicycles (PABs) and unregistered vehicles on roads.

    During one of our operations last week, our enforcement officers stopped a rider who had been riding his device, with a motor capable of propelling it up to 80km/h, along Woodlands Street 83 and Woodlands Ave 4.

    The non-compliant device has since been impounded, and the rider is currently assisting LTA with investigations.

    We would like to remind everyone that only LTA-approved PABs affixed with an LTA seal, and in compliance with the following rules http://bit.ly/2hXQleE, are allowed for use on the roads. LTA will continue to conduct regular enforcement against errant PAB riders and unregistered vehicle drivers, to ensure the safety of all users.

    Gangster LTA Officer Threatened Me With Fxxk Word!

    On 07/07/2015 around 5pm I was passing by North bridge road I saw an LTA officer suddenly got down from his bike rushing towards a black car. Shortly he just took some picture and started to type on his device as the black car drove off. I also saw him printed the slip and put it inside his pouch.

    I approached and asked him, Sir why do you issue the summon though the car already moved off? I was appalled when the LTA officer answered me arrogantly, Who the f*** are you? Is that your car? What f*** do you want?

    I calmly told him to talk nicely and don’t have to be rude, instead he continued talking to me abusively along with his “fluent” vulgarities for the next 5mins or so. I was taken aback and told him to stop or I call the police for assistance. He finally stopped when I whipped out my handphone. He went back to his bike, continued uttering his vulgarity and rode off!

    It is not my car nor anyone related to me but for the next few moments, I started to wonder is this Singapore? Is this my country which I grew up in? Is this how an LTA Officer does his job? Do we need such an attitude person as an enforcement officer? Why must he misused his authority? Why must he used vulgarity publicly? Why do they simply issue a ticket as and when they wish?
    Our father of nation brought us up to SG50 and as a Singaporean, we are excited and looking forward to celebrate the joyous occasion next month.

    I have called LTA to complain about this incident and taken down some contacts from the members of public who witnessed the incident. There are so many innocent driver in my country. I dont want them to be the victim of such LTA officer who simply issue summons to achieve their target in order to get their allowance.

    Sesak di Woodlands CIQ

    KEREDAAN kenderaan keluar masuk Johor Bahru selepas Malaysia menaikkan kadar tol hanya sementara sahaja?

    Nampaknya begitu jika keadaan di Kompleks Kastam, Imigresen dan Kuarantin (CIQ) Woodlands dan Johor hujung minggu lalu dijadikan sandaran.

    Beberapa pembaca Berita Harian memberi maklum balas mereka terperangkap dalam kesesakan lebih dua jam menyeberangi koswe kelmarin dan semalam.

    Malaysia baru-baru ini memperkenalkan tol baru bagi pemandu yang menggunakan Tambak Johor yang berkuat kuasa 1 Ogos lalu.

    Pemandu kenderaan persendirian yang memasuki Malaysia dari Singapura melalui Koswe perlu membayar tol RM9.70 ($3.80) berbanding RM2.90 sebelum ini.

    Apabila memasuki Singapura pula, mereka dikenakan tol RM6.80. Bas dan teksi masing-masing perlu membayar RM13.30 dan RM8.20 bagi setiap perjalanan dua hala. Kenaikan itu menimbulkan reaksi kurang senang sebilangan rakyat Singapura.

    Masyarakat peniaga di Johor Bahru turut tidak setuju kerana menjejas perniagaan mereka.

    Menyusuli langkah Malaysia, Penguasa Pengangkutan Darat (LTA) mengumumkan Singapura akan mengenakan kadar tol yang sepadan.

    Selain tol, Malaysia juga akan mengenakan bayaran permit masuk kenderaan (VEP) kepada kenderaan asing melalui Johor Bahru
