Bayi Lelaki Dibuang Dalam Tong Sampah Diberi Nama Mohd Ramadan

  • Stop Arresting People Who Skip Fasting: Malaysian Authorities

Stop Arresting People Who Skip Fasting: Malaysian Authorities

Malaysian Minister Khairy Jamaluddin urged religious departments on Sunday (May 28) to help the poor instead of nabbing Muslims who skip fasting during Ramadan, a punishable offence under Shariah law.

“Instead of religious departments spending money on enforcement people looking for people ponteng puasa (skipping the fast), use them to help ‘asnaf’ and to do good,” the Malaysian youth and sports minister tweeted.

The word “asnaf” refers to those who are eligible to receive zakat (alms) collections, including the poor.

“In terms of priority, it is more important we help the needy than enforce personal religious obligations. There is no compulsion,” he added.

Mr Khairy, however, admitted that it was “difficult”, when a Twitter user suggested that he put his proposal in a manifesto and to expand it to the entire concept of moral policing.

“This is difficult. I will be honest with you. Years of bureaucratisation of religion has created a behemoth. Almost sacrosanct,” Mr Khairy replied @zurairi.

Under the Federal Territories’ Shariah Criminal Offences Act 1997, Muslims face a fine of not more than RM1,000 (S$323) or maximum six months’ jail, or both, if they are caught openly eating, drinking or smoking during Ramadan. Similar provisions exist in Shariah law in other states.

The Terengganu religious affairs department recently said it would take action against Muslims who do not fast and Muslim-operated eateries or stalls that start operating before 3pm. The 3pm operating rule is reportedly imposed on fast food chains and Ramadan bazaars as well, except for eateries operated by non-Muslims.

Mr Khairy also questioned why there were so many public “buka puasa (breaking fast)” functions when Ramadan should be a time for quiet reflection.

The youth and sports minister, who is also Umno Youth chief, highlighted that politicians’ schedules were packed with breaking of fast events during the Muslim fasting month, lamenting that there was “no time to reflect”.

“It becomes a month of political obligation more than religious reflection. More concerned that we attend functions than appreciate the month.

“As a politician I am aware of this obligation. And I do it. Doesn’t mean I don’t have thoughts about it and how it should be otherwise,” Mr Khairy tweeted in a series of tweets.

Malaysian PR Borrows From Loansharks, Lands Employers And Colleagues In Hot Water

    Hi editors,

I am the General Manager of 2 local restaurants.

On 3 May 2017, at about 1.36PM, I received a call from an unknown number looking for my staff called Kenny Cheong. I told the caller that he got the wrong number and ended the call immediately.

Later, I actually got to known through my assistant manager previously that this staff had borrowed money from several unlicensed money lenders and licensed money lenders. He also told me that there were calls made to my restaurants’ phone lines and also to my kitchen manager, all looking for the same staff Kenny Cheong asking for payments.

My assistant manager also interviewed the staff personally and he did admit to borrowing from 14 unlicensed money lender and 4 licensed money lender. He also gave the contact number of some of our staff working at the restaurant to the lenders.

On the same day at about 2.08PM, my assistant manager texted me saying that he has received WhatsApp messages from a lender introducing himself as Eric. In the text messages, he asked for payment and sent photos of me taken from my Facebook stating that he knows I am the general manager of Kenny Cheong. He threatened us to pay up if not they will make a friend of mine lose his job at Marina Bay Sands.

The staff is currently working for the restaurant, but the company has decided to sack him.

  • Malaysia A ‘Dumping Ground’ For Deported ISIS Fighters

Malaysia A ‘Dumping Ground’ For Deported ISIS Fighters

Malaysia has become a dumping ground for foreign fighters prevented from entering Syria to fight alongside the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), according to the New Straits Times daily.

Citing intelligence sources, it said yesterday that some of these dozens of “unwanted tourists” were only flagged as high-risk individuals by the deporting country after they had entered Malaysia, a choice destination because it is predominantly Muslim and offers visa-free entry to many nations.

These sources revealed that there were about 30 such individuals who had entered Malaysia after being detained at airports in other countries for their potential risk to national security.

Malaysian intelligence operatives have tracked down most of these individuals, who they say were not supposed to be sent to Malaysia in the first place. “The problem is that these foreigners departed from all parts of the world before being arrested in Istanbul, Turkey. Instead of being deported to their last port of disembarkation, they were given the ‘option’ to be deported to Malaysia,” a source said. “We have become a dumping ground…”

Counter-terrorism chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said it was possible that these deportees “would look for a chance to plan an attack (in Malaysia) since their aim to go to Syria had been foiled”.
