    Muhyiddin Yassin Confirmed As President Of Mahathir’s New Party

    Mr Muhyiddin Yassin will be the president of the new political party backed by Dr Mahathir Mohamad and will be officially registering the party with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on Friday (Aug 5).

    “We had our first meeting last night chaired by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

    “TSMY as the president will submit the application to ROS tomorrow, Friday,” former Wanita Umno leader Anina Saadudin told Malay Mail Online when contacted, using the initials for Mr Muhyiddin.

    Ms Anina was present at the meeting on Wednesday night along with Mr Muhyiddin, Mr Mukhriz Mahathir, Gabungan Ketua Cawangan Malaysia president Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman and student group Challenger leader Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

    Ms Anina added that the pro-tem committee members for the new party are Dr Mahathir, Mr Muhyiddin, herself, Mr Kamarulzaman, Mr Syed Saddiq and Mr Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi.

    Mr Muhyiddin also confirmed this in a Facebook posting on Thursday morning, and that a meeting on the matter was held last night.

    “I will be submitting an application to the Registrar of Societies and register this new political party in the near future.

    “Let’s us all pray that the application is approved. Insyaallah we will do the best for the rakyat and the country,” Mr Muhyiddin said.

    Dr Mahathir confirmed recently that he will be a founding member of a new political party that will ally with Pakatan Harapan to ensure straight fights against the BN ruling coalition in the coming general elections.

    DAP MP Nga Kor Ming Investigated For Insulting Post On Aidilfitri

    KEPALA BATAS, July 8 — Two NGOs today lodged four police reports against Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming of the DAP over what they claimed to be a Facebook post that insulted Aidilfitri.

    The Malaysia Heritage Club (Keris) and Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs Penang made the reports at the police station here through Keris Secretary-General Azman Hassan and MAYC Penang Chairman Saiful Anuar.

    Azman claimed that Nga’s Facebook post carried a caricature of children and guests receiving Aidilfitri ‘duit raya’ cash packets and likened it to bribery.

    “Nga’s action is clearly an insult demeaning a noble deed at a time when Muslims are celebrating Aidilfitri,” he told reporters after lodging the reports at the police station.

    He said it was hoped that the police would investigate the person who drew the caricature as well as the owner and administrator of the Facebook account.

    Azman said Nga, as an elected representative, should have been more sensitive and not link the Aidilfitri celebration to political elements.

    “We ask Nga to withdraw the post and make an open apology in the same Facebook account,” he said. — Bernama

    Najib Razak: Islam Doesn’t Allow Alliance With Anti-Islamic Groups, Even For ‘Noble’ Causes

    PUTRAJAYA, March 21 — Islam frowns on Muslims who will ally themselves with their religion’s critics to achieve their goals no matter how “noble”, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.

    He said that the means to achieve a noble aim must be equally noble.

    “That means, Islam not only requires that a purpose must be noble, but the method to achieve the purpose must also be correct and noble.

    “For example, if we have a good objective or purpose, but we collaborate with those who are anti-Islam or uneasy with Islam, that means that method is not correct and forbidden by Islam,” he said in a speech when launching the 59th national recital of the al-Quran here.

    He did not give further examples to illustrate his point.

    Earlier, he urged Muslims to be broad-minded when faced with differences of opinion.

    “Don’t because of small matters or contentious issues, or being too obsessed with groups or a leader, until we quarrel, leading to enmity, hatred or casting aspersions or inappropriate labels by a Muslim against other fellow Muslims.

    “In other words, Islam allows differences in opinion, the voicing of views and objections, but it should be courteous and should be consistent,” he said.

    Earlier, he had also stressed the importance of unity within the Muslim community, after quoting a verse in the Quran.

    “This verse clearly shows the issue of unity is not a choice, but an obligation to Muslims. This is the command of Allah to us,” he said, before going on to say that Malaysia was lucky as it was an Islamic country based on Sunni Islam.

    CAD & MAS Seize Large Number Of Bank Accounts In Relation To 1MDB Probe

    The Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) have seized a “large number” of bank accounts in relation to a probe into troubled Malaysian state fund 1MDB, both said in a joint statement on Monday (Feb 1).

    Their statement, issued in response to media queries, is as follows:

    “Singapore does not tolerate the use of its financial system as a refuge or conduit for illicit funds. Since the middle of last year, the Commercial Affairs Department and the Monetary Authority of Singapore have been actively investigating possible money-laundering and other offences carried out in Singapore. In connection with these investigations, we have sought and are continuing to seek information from several financial institutions, are interviewing various individuals, and have seized a large number of bank accounts.

    Singapore is also cooperating closely with relevant authorities, including those in Malaysia, Switzerland and the United States. We have responded to all foreign requests for information and have requested for information from relevant counterparts to aid in our investigations. As investigations are still ongoing, we are not able to provide more details at this stage.”

    In response to the MAS and CAD announcement, 1MDB issued a statement on Monday night saying it has not been has not been contacted by any foreign legal authorities on any matters relating to the company. “1MDB remains committed to fully cooperating with any lawful authority and investigation, subject to advice from the relevant domestic lawful authorities, and in accordance with international protocols governing such matters,” it said.

    Last year, Singapore authorities said they had frozen at least two bank accounts of individuals believed to be linked to 1MDB, whose advisory board is chaired by the Malaysian Prime Minister. However 1MDB said in September 2015 that none of its bank accounts had been frozen by either Swiss or Singapore authorities.

    On Jan 30, Swiss authorities said they would hand a formal request for assistance on 1MDB “in the coming days”. This comes after Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak was cleared of any wrongdoing with regard to RM2.6 billion (US$607 million) worth of donations that were channelled into his bank accounts.

    The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency had been investigating the donation into Mr Najib’s accounts, and also in relation to SRC International, a former subsidiary of the state fund.

    On Sunday Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi questioned why the Swiss Attorney-General publicly issued a statement instead of going straight to his Malaysian counterpart.

    “By making a public statement, in my opinion, it is not good because it not only strains ties between the two countries, but also creates bias in media reports,” DPM Zahid said, adding that such information should have been conveyed through government-to-government channels.

    A spokesperson for Switzerland’s Office of Attorney-General (OAG) said “as a law enforcement body and judicial authority, the OAG has not to comment on political statements”. He added that the OAG notes Malaysia’s commitment to fully support Switzerland’s request for mutual assistance.

    Najib Razak: Malaysian Chinese Are Sons Of Malaysia, Not Pendatang

    Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak assured the Chinese Malaysians today that he recognised them as “sons of Malaysia” and not “pendatang” or immigrants.

    He said that they were Malaysians above all, and they should not “worry too much about one or two individuals” who may insist otherwise.

    “As far as I’m concerned, the Malaysian Chinese have contributed a lot to the development of Malaysia, to the growth of Malaysia.

    “The spectacular growth of Malaysia. You’ve played your part,” Najib said in his speech at the Gerakan annual national delegates’ conference in Shah Alam today.

    “And that is why you are not ‘pendatang’. You are the sons of Malaysia. you were born here, you grew up here and when the time comes, you will be buried here, or your ashes will be scattered somewhere in Malaysia.”

    Najib said the government would continue to protect the interests of the Chinese, including ensuring vernacular schools continued operating.

    He said that while having a single stream of schools was “ideal”, such a system was not included in the social contract signed by Malaysia’s founding fathers.

    “Our social contract allows for different streams, and we live with it. We have to live with it. There’s no use going back.”

    He added that Malaysians must look beyond race and judge others by their character, rather than their colour.

    “There are good Malays, there are good Chinese, there good Indians. There are also bad Malays, bad Chinese, bad Indians. There are also Malay gangsters, Chinese gangsters, Indian gangsters.

    “In fact, there are even more Indian gangsters than others,” Najib quipped, prompting laughter from the hall of Gerakan delegates.
