  • Makcik Homeless After Fire Gutted Home, Kind Neighbour Took Her In

Makcik Homeless After Fire Gutted Home, Kind Neighbour Took Her In

A kind resident took in her neighbour after a fire in the latter’s flat, allowing the family of three to lodge in her home temporarily.

The fire had broken out in the second-storey flat at Block 372, Jurong East Street 32 on Friday morning (Aug 4).

Stomp earlier reported on the incident in which seven people were conveyed to hospitals for treatment after inhaling smoke.

A 62-year-old woman and her two daughters were the occupants of the affected flat.

After the incident, one of her daughters revealed that she had been using a hair curler, and had placed it on a mattress, after turning off the electricity.

Later on, there was smoke and the smell of something burning, before the mattress finally caught fire.

Said the 62-year-old mother: “I was at the market that morning when I received a call from my daughter telling me that there was a strong burning smell.

“I immediately rushed home, and my daughters wanted to move the mattress out of the unit. However, it suddenly caught fire.”

The fire spread fast and a neighbour, living in the unit beside theirs, was trapped in her home.

The 58-year-old neighbour recalled: “I was on medical leave that day. I smelt something burning in the morning, but I was groggy from my fever.

“Later I heard my husband shouting that something was burning. We opened our door and found a fire in the corridor.

“There was nowhere we could run to. We were trapped. I started crying and screaming for help. Then I recalled that my neighbour could not move well, and I called her.”

She said that fortunately, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived in time, and the couple climbed down to safety using a ladder.

According to her, this was not the first time a fire had broken out in the block.

She told Shin Min Daily News: “Two years ago, a unit on the left had caught fire at around 3a, in the morning, so this is the second time already.”

Although the affected flat’s owner has since received keys to a rental flat, her neighbour still insisted that the family stay with her for the time being.

The neighbour added: “We’re neighbours, so it’s only right that we help each other out.”

  • Why Throw Pork At Your Muslim Neighbour In A Multi-Religious Singapore?

Why Throw Pork At Your Muslim Neighbour In A Multi-Religious Singapore?

A 63-year-old woman found guilty of harassing her Muslim neighbours was sentenced to a 2-year mandatory treatment order on Friday (Jun 30). Lee Dji Lin, who was diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder, pleaded guilty in April to one count of harassment and one count of “intentionally wounding the religious feelings” of her neighbour, Ms Marliah Jonet, by throwing raw pork at the front door of her Tampines flat.

A third charge of harassment for taunting Ms Marliah with a pig-shaped figurine and calling her “babi”, or pig in Malay, was taken into consideration. The court heard that on Jun 14, 2016, Ms Marliah heard Lee’s shouts from her kitchen window at about 11.30pm. When Ms Marliah looked out of the window, she saw Lee holding a bamboo pole with a pair of panties attached to one end. Lee was trying to swing the pole up and towards Ms Marliah’s window, the court heard.

A few days later, on Jun 18, Ms Marliah opened her front door at about 11.40pm to find a slab of raw pork on her doorstep. She told her daughter to review footage from a CCTV camera the family had installed outside their flat. The footage captured Lee throwing the slab of raw meat towards Ms Marliah’s unit at about 8pm that day. Ms Marliah called the police next morning. For intending to wound the religious feelings of her neighbours, Lee could have been jailed for up to three years, fined, or both. For harassment, she could have been jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$5,000, or both.

  • Yishun Neighbours Build Wall To Keep Out Pesky Neighbour

Yishun Neighbours Build Wall To Keep Out Pesky Neighbour

An elderly neighbour in Yishun who has been dumping toilet paper, sanitary pads, dark sauce and urine on the doors of two other households has come up against a wall.

    Like, literally.

As deterrence, the two households at Block 112 Yishun Ring Road have taken to building a wall with cacti on it to keep out the elderly neighbour from the lower floor.

The harassment has allegedly been carried out daily for two years. Various other measures, such as installing surveillance cameras and lodging police reports, have failed to deter the sunglasses-donning culprit.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, the two families decided to built a wall to keep out the elderly neighbour.

The wall initially had durian husks lined along the top but they started to smell after a few days. They were removed and changed to cacti.

The improvised wall had metal pieces and pipes attached.

The wall was completed on March 3, 2017, with added fortifications.

Previously, the wall was made of chairs and and boards.

A 61-year-old man who built the wall, said:

I recycled most of the materials used for the wall and completed it in five hours.

I picked up the wooden planks, pipes, and various other items outside.

As for the cacti, I grow them on my corridors, and they came in handy.

I tried using durian husks for a while, but found that they stank after a few days, so I changed them to cacti instead.

The man also said the wall has managed to keep the harassing neighbour at bay, as she can only throw rubbish and liquids from a distance and cannot get close.

The man also appealed to the authorities to step in.

  • Pasir Ris Neighbour Disputes Account, Provides Own Version Of Story

Pasir Ris Neighbour Disputes Account, Provides Own Version Of Story

STOMP today published a story of an ongoing dispute between two neighbours in Pasir Ris titled, ‘Who needs enemies… when you have neighbours from hell like these?‘. The article quotes a STOMPER living on the 5th floor of Block 628 Pasir Ris saying she has been terrorised by a family living on the same floor.

The neighbour claimed: “They always shout vulgarities, stand outside the corridor, attack/push/hit their neighbours next door.”

Several readers who responded to STOMP’s video on the dispute in their Facebook, pointed out that the video was very one-sided. Facebook user David Lim, who claimed to be the neighbour  described as ‘from hell’ in the article, also responded to the post to tell his side of the story.

  • Neighbour From Hell In Yishun Terrorises Upstairs Neighbours

Neighbour From Hell In Yishun Terrorises Upstairs Neighbours

Shin Min Daily News shared a video clip of a neighbour from hell who terrorised 2 of her neighbours at Block 112 of Yishun Ring Road. According to the news site, the incident started 2 years ago, when one of the neighbours found a mixture of oil and salt on her metal gates causing it to rust. The other neighbour found a pile of rubbish on her bicycle along the corridor soon after.

This led them to install a CCTV and they found out that the acts of mischief were caused by a woman who lived one floor below them. The video clip shared by Shin Min showed the woman in sunglasses throwing toilet paper, sanitary pads, braised meat sauce, and even urine at her neighbours’ flats.

The 2 affected residents set up a barrier using tables and chairs to deter the neighbour from hell who lived below them, but even that did not help. The acts have continued despite calls to the police as well as notices against such behaviour by the town council.

Shin Min said that the woman in shades refused to answer her door when they tried to talk to her.
