On Islamophobia In Singapore: Non-Muslims Must Acknowledge Issue, Educate Themselves, Authorities Must Take Stronger Action Against Islamophobes

My dear non-Muslims, saying that Islamophobia doesn’t exist in our country, is ironically similar to the Chinese claiming that racism and discrimination towards minority races doesn’t exist.

Don’t tell us to condemn these hineous acts, because we have always stood up as one community against it.

Don’t tell us to “reform” our “backwards” religion by cherry picking “controversial verses” when you probably don’t know anything about it.

Don’t tell us that our religion is barbaric and incites violence when all the information you get is from islamophobic websites.

Don’t tell us that we hate the “kafirs” and “infidels” when most of the attacks happen on Muslim countries and holy sites, with victims of such attacks being majority Muslims.

Don’t you see that you’re not helping, but instead, fuelling the fire of islamophobia in Singapore?

And don’t tell me that Islamophobia doesn’t exist nor is it a problem.

Enough is enough. We, the Muslims, have been victimized even more so in this entire process. If you don’t have anything better to say, keep your damn mouths shut instead of worsening the situation.

I have yet to see any actions taken by the authorities other than the usual “we should not allow this to happen” bla bla, saying things just for the sake of saying it. What’s the point? It clearly is happening and has been going on for the past few years.

Hoping that the ISA could be applied to those individuals who promote Islamophobia and bad mouthing other religions, just as how the ISD were swift to suddenly apprehend radicalised individuals.

Sigh. Don’t kecoh-kecoh lah please, we just want to raya..

A Different Perspective, An Ally To The Cause: Non-Muslims Showed Greater Understanding And Respect

Among netizens that responded to the non-halal issues of the bazaar at Geylang Serai include of course our non-Muslim friends too.

If we did not care to notice, our Malay brothers and sisters may not have seen the way non-Muslims view the matter. Which is actually very heartening.

For Geylang bazaar in Ramadan to be free of non-halal food, the cause may be closer to the hearts of Muslims, however for the non-Muslims the issue do concern them too and this is what some have came out to say.

They showed greater understanding and respect for halal requirements. Salute!

As such, there exist the need to observe halal dietery requirements of bazaars operating in the month of Ramadhan targeting at Muslims. And these are indeed prime examples of how diversity should be celebrated in our multi religious and multiracial society in Singapore.

Best of all, most Muslims and non-Muslims share this common believe.

World’s Largest Muslim Youth Wing Calls For Re-Examination Of Islamic Text

JOMBANG, East Java, Indonesia: The world’s largest Muslim youth organisation Gerakan Pemuda Ansor (GP Ansor) – the youth wing of Indonesia’s largest Muslim organisation Nadlatul Ulama (NU) – on Monday (May 22) called for a re-examination of Islamic text to adapt it to modern civilisation.

The call is a bold move from NU and comes three weeks after the jailing of Jakarta’s first ethnic Chinese Christian governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, also known as Ahok. His conviction has raised concerns that extremists are gaining an upper hand in a country long known as the face of moderate Islam.

NU claims to have 50 million followers. Its youth wing GP Ansor warned that failure to re-examine the text will see continued bloodshed in Muslim countries, which could “threaten humanity”.

“A wide discrepancy now exists between the structure of Islamic orthodoxy and the context of Muslims’ actual reality,” said Luthfi Thomafi, a member of GP Ansor’s board. “(This is) due to immense changes that have occurred since the teachings of orthodox Islam, which became largely ossified towards the end of the medieval era.”

“Civil discord, acts of terrorism, rebellion and outright warfare – all pursued in the name of Islam – will continue to plague Muslims and threaten humanity at large, until these issues are openly acknowledged and resolved,” Thomafi added.

Among the complex issues that lie at the heart of this discrepancy are practices governing relations between Muslims and non-Muslims, according to GP Ansor. These include the rights, responsibilities and role of non-Muslims who live in Muslim-majority societies and vice versa.

The group on Monday issued a GP Ansor Declaration on Humanitarian Islam which provides a strategic road map for a coordinated, long-term effort to address issues in the Islamic world.

Key elements in the strategy include:

– New theological discourse (ijtihad) to recontextualise Islamic teachings for the modern era;

– Development and adoption of new educational curriculum throughout the Islamic world; and

– Grassroots movement(s) to build societal consensus and political will.

“Our goal is to develop an international network leading to the emergence of a global movement which shall be dedicated to the well-being of humanity as a whole – and to the fostering of a truly global civilisation – inspired by ‘humanitarian Islam’, likened to Islam rahmatan li al-‘alamin, which serves as a blessing for all creation,” said Thomafi.

Raja Bomoh Sorry Not Sorry, Claimed Bizarre Rituals Carried Out Under Orders

Ibrahim Mat Zin courted international stardom when he attempted to track the missing MAS aircraft MH370 with a pair of bamboo binoculars and coconuts.

His antics at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) had left Malaysian authorities red-faced.

Since then, the self-styled “raja bomoh” or “king of shamans” has appeared at various places, including outside the Sungai Buloh prison, where he performed a ritual to protect incarcerated former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

However, Ibrahim has repented and apologised to all Malaysians, both Muslims and non-Muslims, for his stunts.

The 66-year-old, who is often decked in a suit, also claimed that certain individuals, whom he cannot name, had ordered him to perform the rituals.

Commentary: There Is No Reason At All For Us To Triumph Over You (Non-Muslims)

Our brother, Ustaz Ahmad Muzzammil Shukri, came out with a pretty good explanation about the context of the imam’s sermon the other day. He also agreed that when problem arises, MUIS should play a part in resolving or clarifying the religious aspects such as hadiths, fatwas and ideologies when needed. Alhamdullilah may Allah SWT help the imam and us all.

He said:

“An explanation which may help us understand better of the recent issue of the prayer recitation by the Imam.

In the Quran there are verses that have a similar pattern like in Chapter of al-Baqarah verse 286,
فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ (286)

Nasr means help…but when the word is used with the preposition a’laa..it means help to triumph over..But lets now focus on the word “kafir” which means disbeliever.

Even though the word “kafir” is used, it is NOT referred to all disbelievers.
But instead, only referred to disbelievers that attack and oppress Islam and the muslims because of difference in faith.

And in any community in the whole wide world, if one is being attacked and oppressed, the victim will cry for help and victory, So That The Oppression Will Stop.

Now, how is this interpretation proven correct?

Look at the history of our beloved prophet Muhammad saw. As soon as he reached Madinah during the hijrah, the first few things he did were to build good ties with the non-Muslims in Madinah, particularly the Jews.

Even though the Muslims were the majority at that moment, he made a peace treaty with the Jews. He promoted peace and love and allowed Muslims and Jews to live peacefully on the same land. Why?

Because the Jews at that particular time caused no harm or oppression towards the Muslims.

So this proves that the verse above that was conveyed by Prophet Muhammad saw himself refers to non-Muslims who were causing harm and oppression to Muslims just because they were muslims.

Therefore, my non-Muslim friends in Singapore, there is nothing to worry about. You cause NO harm in any way to us Muslims. So there is no reason at all for us to triumph over you.

And I believe the prayers recited by the imam also refers to non-muslims at other parts of the world who are oppressing Islam and muslims. Again, So That The Oppression Will Stop.

But sadly, wrong interpretation of a convert has just caused chaos and disturbance within the community. Shouldn’t the government take action against this person who caused the chaos and disturbance?”
