SCDF: Warning! We Do Not Endorse Any Fire-Extinguishers Or First Aid Kits, Don’t Fall For Scam

ALERT OF COMPANIES ATTEMPTING TO SELL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS AND FIRST AID KITS

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has received public feedback about companies claiming to be endorsed by the SCDF to sell fire extinguishers and/ or first aid kits. In some cases, insistent ‘hard-sell’ techniques were used to get the public to purchase their products. Sales personnel were also reported to be wearing lanyards to give the impression that they were representatives from a government organisation.

We would like to inform members of the public that the SCDF is not involved in any sales of fire extinguishers and first aid kits. The SCDF has also not authorised any company to conduct such activities on its behalf. The SCDF would like to remind members of the public to exercise caution when dealing with such persons or companies.

It is a standard procedure for SCDF personnel on official duties to display their warrant card, NS Identity Card or letter of authorisation, as proof of authentication. SCDF personnel will not compel residents to purchase fire extinguishers and first aid kits for their households. While it is encouraged for each household to be equipped with a fire extinguisher and first aid kit, it is not mandatory and residents will not be fined by SCDF for not having these items at home.

Members of the public are advised to lodge a police report for cases involving the impersonation of SCDF officers or unauthorised business activities.

Individuals who wish to file a complaint against such companies can call CASE’s hotline 6100-0315 for assistance. They can also file an online complaint via CASE’s website at https://www.case.org.sg/complaint.aspx or walk in to CASE’s office located at 170 Ghim Moh Road.

  • Van Hits SCDF Vehicle Which Was Responding To Incident On CTE

Van Hits SCDF Vehicle Which Was Responding To Incident On CTE

One thing led to another in a chain of events on the Central Expressway (CTE) in the wee hours yesterday.

It began with a man trying to kill himself on the Braddell flyover of the CTE, which later led to two accidents in which three people were injured.

The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived at the scene after the police were alerted to the case of attempted suicide on the CTE flyover at 2.45am.

A 38-year-old man was later arrested in relation to the case, the police told The New Paper.

Then at around 3.10am, a van collided into a SCDF Red Rhino fire vehicle that was parked on the Braddell flyover road shoulder towards the Seletar Expressway (SLE).

    TOPPLED

An ambulance was also damaged as a result of the collision.

After the collision, the van skidded about five metres and toppled on its side.

The 69-year-old van driver, complained of pain in his chest area, while a 20-year-old SCDF officer, who was sitting at the back of the Red Rhino, had abrasions on his arms and legs.

The police said both victims were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).

The SCDF officer was discharged and given two days of medical leave.

Not long after the first accident, just 10 metres away, a car crashed into the rear of a taxi.

SCDF officers at the scene attended to the victims of the accident. A female passenger in the car said she felt giddy and the back of her head was hurting.

The woman, who is in her 20s,
was also taken to TTSH in an ambulance.

The Land Transport Authority said the two accidents affected four of the five lanes on the CTE in the direction of the SLE.

    Police investigations are ongoing.

  • Ex-SCDF Director Who Was Sentenced To 10 Weeks’ Jail Cleared Of Misappropriating 2 iPads

Ex-SCDF Director Who Was Sentenced To 10 Weeks’ Jail Cleared Of Misappropriating 2 iPads

A former senior civil servant, originally sentenced to 10 weeks’ jail last year after he was found guilty of misappropriating two iPads, walked out of court a free man on Thursday (Oct 20) after he was acquitted of the charges.

Mr Jeganathan Ramasamy, 65, who was director of the technology department at the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), had maintained that the two Apple tablets handed to him by IT vendor NCS in 2011 were personal purchases, for which he had yet to make payment.

He gave one to his daughter and sold the other to SCDF’s then senior director of emergency services for $200. Each iPad 2 was worth $939.

But the prosecution, which brought two charges against him for criminal breach of trust, contended that the two iPads were meant to be used to test mobile apps that NCS was developing for SCDF.

In acquitting Mr Jeganathan on Thursday, Judicial Commissioner See Kee Oon said there were “inconsistencies and gaps” in the evidence of both the prosecution and the defence. He said “ample doubt” had been raised in the case against Mr Jeganathan, making it unsafe for the conviction to stand.

The judicial commissioner noted that the two iPads did not come loaded with any apps, contrary to the prosecution’s case that the devices were meant for testing purposes.

He also noted that it did not make sense for Mr Jeganathan to sell one iPad to a senior officer in the same organisation if he had obtained it through wrongful means.

The judicial commissioner pointed to text message exchanges with NCS’ then group general manager, Mr Wong Soon Nam, in which Mr Jeganathan asked to pay for the devices on at least three occasions.

In a message after he received the devices, Mr Jeganathan said: “Tell me the amount I have to pay.” Mr Wong replied that the iPad 2 “is meant for all the new mobile apps that we are rolling out for SCDF and for you to trial”.

Shortly after this exchange, Mr Wong phoned Mr Jeganathan.

Mr Jeganathan testified that Mr Wong told him over the phone to try out the iPads first and they could talk about the price later. Mr Wong initially testified that he did not communicate further with Mr Jeganathan but when confronted with the call records, said he could not remember the contents of the call.

The judicial commissioner said text messages are a “fertile ground for miscommunication” and that the contents of the call can change the interpretation of the text message exchange.

Approached for comment after he was acquitted, Mr Jeganathan, who was defended by Mr Sanjiv Rajan, said he was “thankful” that “justice prevailed”. He left SCDF in 2012.

  • SCDF NSMen Showed Having Sex In Uniform In Leaked Video

SCDF NSMen Showed Having Sex In Uniform In Leaked Video

A leaked video posted at an online forum shows two HomeTeam NSmen having sex in camp. It is not clear when the video was taken, but it was posted this morning at 4.58am. The post was captioned: “SCDF NS boys sibeh horny hor”.

Apart from the fact that both men were in uniform, there is no indication of what rank they hold. The arm badge of one of them suggests that they were from the 2nd SCDF Div HQ. Both men appeared to be performing the act willingly.

TISG understands that the video has gone viral on Whatsapp chat among SCDF men since 2 days ago. A source (who prefers to remain anonymous) said that one of the men willingly recorded the act, and that he is readily identifiable in the video which is in circulation via Whatsapp chat.
