  • Man Beaten By Thugs Told To Seek Own Legal Recourse, Threatened In Front Of Attending Policemen

Man Beaten By Thugs Told To Seek Own Legal Recourse, Threatened In Front Of Attending Policemen

Today I learnt something new about the law in Singapore. A poor guy was assaulted by 2 strangers, together with a video recorded by a witnessing neighbour (who show it to the police) and still assailants walk away free after the police spoke to them. And they( the assailants) intimidated me (with the victim) outrightly in front of the police officers with gestures of ‘I’m watching you’. And still police cannot do anything.

I voice out my frustration to the officers and the supervisor explains to me that it is not an arrestable offence. He continued with I can lodge a complaint and proceed to state court (my own cost) if I want to.

As for the poor chap who got beaten up for no reason, he too was told to lodge a complain and go to state court for the assailants to be charge with ‘causing grievous hurt’.

My Wife and I worried now. Court only operates from Monday. What if he kill me on Sunday?

Just writing to vent my frustrations. Learn something new today. The next time you assault someone, don’t worry when the police come. They’ll tell the victim to lodge a complain and you’ll be ask to leave the vicinity.

    Thank you Government.

  • Lamborghini Driver Arrested After Video Of Reckless Supercar Goes Viral

Lamborghini Driver Arrested After Video Of Reckless Supercar Goes Viral

There was a narrow gap – barely a car’s width – between the two vehicles travelling on the expressway.

Yet the blue Lamborghini blatantly squeezed through, almost causing an accident, while cutting across the lane before speeding off into the distance.

The entire incident on Oct 1 took less than two seconds.

The Lamborghini driver’s dangerous and reckless act was recorded by an in-car camera and the footage went viral after it was uploaded online last week.

As of 5pm yesterday, the 33-second video, which was originally posted on Facebook by the affected driver, Mr Heng See Meng, and uploaded on other pages, had more than 201,000 combined views and was shared more than 2,300 times.

A police spokesman later confirmed that a 45-year-old man was arrested for dangerous driving in relation to the incident.

    IMPOUNDED

The New Paper understands that the man was nabbed on Tuesday, and his vehicle, identified by netizens as a Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, was also impounded.

In the video, Mr Heng, with his family, is driving his car on the rightmost lane of the three-lane East Coast Parkway.

A van is seen just ahead of his car, in the middle lane, with a small gap diagonally between the two vehicles.

Suddenly, the blue Lamborghini zooms up behind the van, weaving and squeezing through the gap between the two vehicles, then overtakes them, cutting to the right lane, and speeding off.

Mr Heng’s car then overtakes the van, switches a lane to the left in front of it, before an orange Lamborghini appears on the rightmost lane and drives into the distance as well.

Mr Heng told The Straits Times Online that it was a “very scary experience”.

“I really hope all drivers respect road discipline and not bring danger to other road users,” he said.

His video also sparked off online outrage against the Lamborghini driver, with netizens condemning his actions.

Many condemned the driver of the supercar for putting himself and the other drivers at risk.

Some also questioned why the driver had not overtaken via the empty left-most lane, while others blamed Mr Heng’s car for hogging the right-most lane.

Road safety experts described the driver’s actions as dangerous and irresponsible.

Singapore Safety Driving Centre’s training manager Gerard Pereira said: “The blue Lamborghini driver appeared to be showing off, unlike (the other Lamborghini driver) who waited for the car (with the in-car camera) to switch a lane to the left before overtaking on the right.

“He should not be on the road if he is this impatient. What kind of driving ethics does he have?”

Accident reconstruction expert Kelvin Koay said: “Had the van slowed down or the other car sped up a little, an accident would have occurred.

“Plus, given the Lamborghini was going faster than the two vehicles, had there been any impact, it could have caused their cars to spin out of control.

    “It would have been disastrous.”

If convicted of dangerous driving, an offender can be jailed up to a year and fined up to $3,000.

    About the driver

After the video of the blue Lamborghini being driven dangerously was uploaded online last week, netizens embarked on ahunt for the driver.

Some posted photos of the driver and his Facebook profile on various road safety community Facebook groups.

The New Paper understands that the 45-year-old who was arrested for dangerous driving is a Nigerian national who lives here.

  • Woman Gets 4 Weeks’ Jail For Offering $10,000 Bribe To Police Officer

Woman Gets 4 Weeks’ Jail For Offering $10,000 Bribe To Police Officer

A woman who offered a $10,000 bribe to stop a police officer from investigating her involvement in possible offences under the Women’s Charter was sentenced to four weeks’ jail on Monday (Oct 3).

Zhu Kuai, 42, unemployed, admitted to offering the bribe to Assistant Superintendent Chan Wai Hoong at Fortune Centre, Middle Road, on April 14, 2016.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Vincent Ong said ASP Chan and two others from the police force’s compliance management unit were sent to Fortune Centre that day following a tip-off about unlicensed massage establishments and condoms in letterboxes.

The officers were walking around Level 4 of the building when they came across LK Beauty Spa, which purported to offer beauty and spa services. They noticed Zhu sitting inside. Once she saw the police officers, she closed the main door of the unit.

Sensing something amiss, the officers approached the unit to interview Zhu, who had previously worked there but was not managing it any more. Two bundles of keys were found in her handbag.

Suspecting that one of the keys was for the unit’s letterbox, ASP Chan suggested that Zhu take the officers to the letterbox for an inspection.

Zhu began to panic and repeatedly pleaded with the officers not to open the letterbox. While walking to Level 1, Zhu continued to plead with ASP Chan not to open the letterbox and asked to settle the matter privately with him. ASP Chan ignored her.

At the letterbox, she admitted that the letterbox contained condoms and that these were used for providing sexual services at the unit. A black bag containing many unused condoms was seized.

A female staff sergeant was recording her statement when Zhu asked to speak to ASP Chan in private, but the latter refused and told her to say what she wanted in the other officer’s presence.

Zhu then told ASP Chan in Mandarin: “I give you ten thousand dollars.” He rejected the offer and warned her not to bribe a public servant. But Zhu said: “Ten thousand dollars you don’t bring me back,” intending to induce the officer to cease investigations as she was afraid that he would arrest her for providing sexual services.

He ignored her offer and asked his colleague to continue recording her statement.

Zhu was escorted to Police Cantonment Complex and arrested for suspected offences under the Women’s Charter and bribery.

She has a conviction under the Massage Establishments Act.

Her lawyer Chung Ting Fai said the mother of two, who was from China but is now a Singapore citizen, deeply regrets her actions which have brought untold agony and trauma to her family. She could have been fined up to $100,000 and/or jailed for up to five years.
