    For those who’s using Samsung S8 or S8plus better be aware of this.. I was so shock upon seeing my wife’s HP bills.. How could u actually exceed more than 7GB when u had wifi at home?¿ So, my wife, Hazel Lyna decides to call Starhub Cust Care & enquire about those exceedingly amount of data & to her surprised, he told that my wife wasted to much datas on YouTube..

    He told that if u are on any other apps that are still running, make sure to check & close those window/tab everytime.. So on my wife’s situation here.. Every morning before sending my son to his childcare centre, she would let him to watch the YouTube.. At all time she would just exit the window/tab by pressing the home button.. Without her realizing that the apps is actually this still running & will auto play to the next following videos.. So just to inform, make sure u exit every window/tab properly.. trying my best to type in english.. sorry for my improper english.. kiam chye.. rojak..

    The Voice SG & MY: Participants Can Be Of Any Race Or Nationality, But Have To Be Fluent In Mandarin

    Popular international reality TV show The Voice has now made its mark in Southeast Asia, with a new show aimed at Singaporean and Malaysian audiences.

    The singing competition will now be adapted for the countries under one program, co-produced by mm2 entertainment along with cable providers StarHub (Singapore) and Astro (Malaysia).

    They’ve now opened entries to aspiring singers from these two countries, and they assure that they’re “on the search for true talents with good voices regardless of their appearances.” But there is one curious catch: you must be able to sing in Mandarin.

    “There is no restriction on race as long as you have a good voice, are fluent in Mandarin, and are able to perform Mandarin songs,” they state on the FAQ page on their official website.

    It appears that this version of The Voice is primarily targeted towards Mandarin-speaking audiences. This differs from the Singaporean adaptation of American Idol, where contestants sang in English.

    Social media users are understandably angry over this rule, raising questions over the show’s language exclusivity.

    It’s likely that this show is aiming to reach the level of success of Sing! China, which was formally known as The Voice of China and mainly featured singers, which included finalist Nathan Hartono last year, performing in Mandarin. mm2 will not be allowing entrants to sing in Hokkien or Cantonese.

    While some are crying foul over the show’s discrimination against non-Mandarin speakers, B-Quartet frontman Bani Haykal threw in a slightly different perspective on the matter on Twitter: speculating that the rule is likely a strategic move for the show to appeal to audiences in China, the same way Sing! China became popular with audiences in Southeast Asia.

    He explains more in an entire Twitter thread, and it is an interesting argument: Sing! China‘s finals broke viewership records in China, and the country remains an extremely attractive prospect for foreign media to target (*cough* The Great Wall).

    The Voice for Singapore and Malaysia could simply be an attempt at replicating the success of Sing! China, but with the emphasis on multi-racial growth in both countries, could this be simply a tone-deaf strategic move by mm2?

    StarHub announced on Friday (May 5) that those aged 16 and up can begin to apply for a spot on the show as of 6pm.

    Again, although participants can be of any race or nationality, “talents have to be fluent in Mandarin and able to perform songs in Mandarin”, according to a press release from StarHub.

    They must also submit a clip of themselves singing. Clips must be no longer than 90 seconds, and dialect songs such as those in Cantonese or Hokkien are not allowed. Other than that, there is no restriction to the language or genre of the song selected, and applicants may choose between singing a cappella or with an instrument, said the press release. Singing with accompanying music tracks is not allowed.

    StarHub Customers Complain Of Broadband Service Disruption Again

    StarHub customers are complaining of another broadband service disruption on Monday (Oct 24) night, following a disruption three days ago.

    Many have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the telecommunications company.

    In a Facebook post at about 10.40pm, StarHub said they were “aware that some broadband customers are facing difficulties accessing the Internet”.

    “We are looking into this right now, and will post updates here as soon as we can.”

    On Saturday (Oct 22), the company’s fibre broadband was disrupted at around 10pm. The connection was restored at 2am the following day.

    StarHub had said it was a network equipment issue.

    Starhub Fibre Broadband Service Outage Sparks Customers’ Ire

    StarHub customers took to social media to air their frustrations following a fibre broadband service outage by the local telco on Saturday evening (Oct 22).

    According to affected StarHub customers on social media, the outage started at around 10pm and has yet to be resolved.

    Responding to queries from Channel NewsAsia, a StarHub spokesperson said the telco is “working as fast as it can to fix an issue affecting customers’ broadband service” and added that updates on the outage will be provided on its Facebook page.

    Magnanimous Singtel Gives Existing Customers Cheat Codes To Avoid Paying Admin Fee To Recontract

    Apple’s new iPhone 7 is just around the corner from being launched in stores worldwide as 16th September draws closer.

    Keen customers of our local telcos would probably have registered their interest to pre-orderApple’s new flagship smartphone. Singtel customers who’ve indicated their interest would probably have received an email to remind them to reserve their phone today (14th September) from 3pm. Through the reservation process, you can specify the iPhone 7 model, colour, capacity and preferred method of purchase/collection options.

    While all sounds well, we noticed a small note in the T&C section of the email reminder sent out to reserve the new phone that raised our eyebrows:-

    Let’s face it, nobody likes admin fees, but it is part and parcel of a business organization to add a cost to such admin tasks and its related maintenance matters to quantify the related backend paperwork. So it’s understandable if you’re signing up a new mobile line, depending on the prevailing promotional terms, you may have to cough up an admin fee.

    However, if you’re already an existing customer of the telco, we find it hard to justify yet another admin fee of S$10.70 to be levied just to re-contract with a new phone; it’s almost as if you’re paying a penalty to be their customer. More so, you’re tied to the telco for another two years and the cost isn’t absorbed as part of your monthly payment obligations. Yet that’s exactly what Singtel is doing it seems, starting with the new iPhone 7.

    Looks like this new admin fee will be effective from 15th September, just when the new iPhones are about to be launched.

    Just to be clear, the usual expected norm is you pay admin charges + any handphone offset charges should you change to a lower tier plan when your contractual period isn’t over.

    The new rule effectively makes you pay the admin fee regardless of the state of your existing plan when you want to re-contract with Singtel  – whether your previous contract has expired, or you’re at the 21st month (when telcos usually allow you to re-contract) or if you’re still half-way through the current plan. As long as there’s a change to your current plan, you pay the admin charge. Should you downgrade the plan prematurely or end the contract altogether prematurely, other charges will come into play to recover the mobile phone offset offered for your ongoing plan – these aspects don’t change. Here are further inputs from Singtel on this matter:-

    The S$10.70 administrative fee covers the handling and processing cost for the purchase of a subsidised handset for recontracting customers. It will not apply when customers upgrade to a higher tier Combo Mobile Plan (example, upgrade from Combo 2 to Combo 3).

    According to inputs from Singtel and as seen in the above exchange on the Singtel’s Facebook page, there are a few escape options where Singtel’s re-contract admin fee won’t apply though:

    • Re-contract to higher tier plan
    • Re-contract online (via singtelshop.com or easymobile.sg)
    • If you are a Singtel Circle nominated keylines, Red Prestige customer, or a Singtel UOB credit card holder

    So if you’re a Singtel customer, the easiest way moving forward to avoid the admin fee is to re-contract online.

    Does this admin charge for re-contracting also apply to other telcos?

    In short, no.

    We quickly reached out to check on the policies from other telcos and we are glad to confirm that that M1 and StarHub don’t levy an admin fee for eligible re-contractual periods (when your old contract has expired) – no matter whichever plan you will be signing up next. You can also re-contract before your contract expires and not incur any charges – so long as you don’t downgrade your plan since it will affect the handset subsidies provided for the former contract.
