Late Minister Othman Wok To Be Given Highest State Honour For Funeral

The late Mr Othman Wok will be given a state-assisted funeral on Tuesday (April 17), with a memorial service for invited guests to be held on Wednesday evening.

At a quarter past noon on Tuesday, a private hearse carrying the casket will make its way from his residence in Kew Avenue to the Sultan Mosque at North Bridge Road for funeral prayers.

After the prayers, the State Flag will be draped over the casket in the presence of Mr Othman’s family.

A statement issued on Monday by the State-assisted Funeral Organising Committee said the draping of the flag is “the highest State honour that can be accorded to a deceased person”.

It added: “The State flag is placed over the casket with the crescent and stars lying over the head and close to the heart. The Order of Nila Utama (2nd Class) that was awarded to the late Mr Othman Wok will accompany the casket.” Mr Othman was conferred the honour in 1983 for his contributions to Singapore and nation-building efforts.

At 2pm, the gun carriage carrying the casket will travel to the burial site at the Choa Chu Kang Muslim Cemetery — passing through North Bridge Road, North Boat Quay, River Valley Road as well as the heartlands of Alexandra Road, Commonwealth Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue West and Clementi Avenue 6.

On Tuesday, Mr Othman’s body will be moved to Sultan Mosque, which was closed to visitors on Monday. The mosque’s manager, Mr Zainal Abidin Omar, said regular prayers will start shortly after 1pm, followed by prayers for Mr Othman.

After that, Mr Othman will make his final journey to Pusara Aman at Choa Chu Kang Muslim Cemetery. In a statement on Monday, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Mr Othman will be accorded the honour of being borne on the Ceremonial Gun Carriage for the journey to the cemetery.

The Mufti of Singapore, Dr Mohamed Fatris Bakaram, will lead the last rites.

[Clarification] Masjid Sultan – Investigation Completed, Staff Did Not Chase Away Congregant, Reminded To Be Sensitive, Careful When Attending To Congregants

    Assalamualaikum wr wb,

Sultan Mosque viewed this matter seriously and has invited Mr Saifudean Mead for a meet up session to resolve this pertinent issue, amicably.

The Mosque Management has investigated the case and found that our staff concerned did not chase away the congregant and his group from Sultan Mosque.

Our management has reminded all staff to be vigilant and at the same time to be more sensitive and careful when attending to our congregants’ needs.

    Management Sultan Mosque.

    Wasalam.

Sultan Mosque: We Will Investigate Staff Who Chased Congregants Out

Salam everybody. Here’s an update, a pegawai executive from Masjid Sultan contacted me and he will look into this matter and investigate it with his staffs.

He ensured that in the future the staffs will not repeat the same mistake.

I hope everyone understand that this is because of an individual. I may be harsh with my last line to fault the whole organization but it does reflect them.

I hope too we can see a better Masjid Sultan staffs in the future.

  • MUIS – It Is Not Justifiable For Sultan Mosque To Chase Us Out Because A Minister Is Visiting

MUIS – It Is Not Justifiable For Sultan Mosque To Chase Us Out Because A Minister Is Visiting

    Dear Sultan Mosque – Singapore.

My friends and I were chased out of your public praying area by one of your staff around 5pm because a “minister” was visiting your premises. After our (5 of us) Asr prayers we sat down for a discussion about Islam matters and fiqh. Out of a sudden one of your staff came to us and told us to leave the premise because “5 or more people sitting in the prayer hall is an offence”.

Since when is this a rule in Allah’s house. What make matter worse when he go on and on about Isis and illegal gathering. As this is Allah’s house my friends and I just want to leave the hall without any unnecessary argument.

As we were taking our belongings to leave he added “as there will be a minister visiting this mosque, it is advisable for you guys to leave because this might be an ugly sight for the minister and the mosque.”

You know what? May Allah judge you and your organization for this appalling incident and niat. So a minister is greater than Allah?

    ITTAQULLAH!
