ISIS Launches Malay-Language Propaganda Newspaper In Southeast Asia

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Terror group Islamic State (IS) is trying to increase its reach in South-east Asia by launching a Malay-language publication for its supporters in the region, according to a Berita Harian (BH) report.

The Malay daily reported today that the publication called Al Fatihin was launched in southern Philippines on June 20, and is being distributed in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, southern Thailand, as well as southern Philippines itself.

An unnamed security expert was quoted saying that the act can be seen as an “unofficial warning” that the Malay archipelago is in IS’s sights.

“This psychological campaign means that the terrorists have a big objective, which is to expand their influence among people who understand the Malay language,” said the source.

“Based on the way the language is used, we believe the writer or editor of the paper may be from this country,” the source added.

Al Fatihin means “The Conqueror” in Arabic.

A paper by the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore last month gave some details on the newspaper’s first issue’s contents.

The 20-page edition focussed on the month of Ramadan and the act of jihad or “holy struggle”, with a three-page message from Egyptian ideologue Abu Hamzah al-Muhajir, also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri, calling on IS fighters to “continue their jihadist activities, search for martyrdom and kill and crucify the polytheists, disbelievers, oppressors and transgressors”.

It also featured Syrian martyr Abu Bilal al-Himshi, and various news excerpts from Raqqa in Syria to the Philippines, information and statistics on military operations, a map of IS provinces across the glove, and alms collection and distribution statistics in Syria.

According to BH, its editor also invited all militant groups in Indonesia and the Philippines to unite and pledge allegiance to IS leader and self-styled caliph Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.

Bukit Aman’s Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division senior assistant director Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay refused comment on the matter to the daily, claiming the matter was still being investigated.

However he told the daily that IS is believed to be expanding its media arms, in the fields of information technology, audio visual, processing and publishing to maintain its global communications.

“It is proven through the production of their official IS applications including an official ‘live broadcast’ radio from the official IS media centre in Iraq that is broadcasted all over the world,” said Ayub.

Regional security expert Bilveer Singh, an adjunct senior fellow at Centre of Excellence for National Security at RSIS recently warned of possible increase in IS activities in the region as the terrorist organisation has begun losing its hold on territories in Iraq and Syria.

There had been a recent increase of attacks linked to IS globally, including bombings at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport, the slaying of hostages in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and in South-east Asia, a suicide bombing in Solo, Indonesia, as well as the grenade attack which injured eight people at a bar in Puchong — reportedly the first in Malaysia linked to the IS.

  • Malaysia IGP: After India & Bangladesh, IGP Will Review Zakir Naik’s Sermons

Malaysia IGP: After India & Bangladesh, IGP Will Review Zakir Naik’s Sermons

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia’s police chief announced today he will review all of Dr Zakir Naik’s sermons made in India and Bangladesh after the two South Asian countries launched investigations into the controversial Islamist preacher said to have inspired an attack on a Dhaka cafe last week.

“I will comment when I have seen what he actually said in India/Bangladesh,” Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar told Malay Mail Online in a text message this evening when contacted.

He indicated that he will then consider the appropriate action to take if he finds that Dr Zakir’s speeches contain elements that could be seen as promoting terrorism.

India’s National Investigation Agency is reportedly preparing to question the Mumbai-based preacher following claims he had inspired five gunmen to attack the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka that killed 22 people, including the attackers.

Bangladeshi Information Minister Hassanul Haq Inu also reportedly said his country’s legal experts were looking into Dr Zakir’s speeches.

Rohan Imtiaz and Nibras Islam were two of the five Dhaka gunmen who were reportedly inspired by Dr Zakir, with Rohan allegedly posting on Facebook a quote he attributed to the preacher that “every Muslim should be a terrorist”.

The head of the Hyderabad chapter of global terror group Islamic State, Mohammad Ibrahim Yazdani, has attributed Dr Zakir’s teachings as the basis for his venture into militancy.

Dr Zakir reputedly has 14 million followers on Facebook and 200 million viewers of his Peace TV channel.

He was welcomed by the Malaysian government in April this year and held a week-long series of sermons and has been praised as a “very wise man”,  received tributes from the government including the prestigious “Tokoh Maal Hijrah” award in 2013 and was reportedly gifted three islands in Lake Kenyir from the Terengganu government.

In the wake of the global controversy, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed has now advised Malaysians not to blindly accept the teachings of preachers whom he said may just want popularity.

Noor Mastura: Solidarity Of Humankind Required As ISIS Attacks On Muslims Dampens Ramadan

ISIS/Radicals Ramadan ‘worship’ checklist (update -)
    Destroy :
    Istanbul
    Bangladesh
    Iraq
    Medina
…Basically make Muslims all over the world mourn in our holiest month

This is the worst Ramadan ever. With all the attacks from not only ISIS but raging Islamophobia in the west shooting random Muslims down and hitting them black and blue in the streets. Eid this year is going to be Muslims all over the world mourning the tragic loss of lives and burying their loved ones.

Lord knows the worst part about this is there are millions of people who actually think we deserve it.
I cant even begin to express anger, the anguish and the pain of an entire community of 1.6 billion people in the world who are slammed and attacked and targeted on BOTH sides.

Keep fighting the good fight? We are tired, tortured, drowning and fighting a never ending uphill battle.
Lord help us.. because we are not giving up. We cant. Not even when it burns our soul and rips our hearts. We wont.

And to the world that’s watching – WE ONLY HAVE EACH OTHER. Humanity is literally being torn apart. Stop fighting your factions. Stop labelling yourselves. Stop dividing your brethren. Shias, Sunnis, Sufis, Salafis, Christians, Jews, Sikhs, Athiests, Buddhists- I dont really care. We need each other more than ever.

  • Puchong Terror Attack Work Of ISIS

Puchong Terror Attack Work Of ISIS

Police have confirmed that there were Islamic State elements involved in the grenade blast at the Movida nightclub in Puchong on June 28.

“Based on our investigations, we found there were indeed IS elements involved in what happened at the Movida café that night,” inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

He also revealed that 15 people had been arrested in connection with terror-related activities. Out of this, two of the suspects were related to the Puchong attack.

“We found that the two of them had received instructions from one of our citizens in Syria, Muhamad Wanndy Muhamad Jedi, who told them to launch attacks in Malaysia against senior government leaders, senior police officers, and judges, because these three obstruct their activities,” he said.

Entertainment centres are also being targeted for purportedly being ‘un-Islamic’, he said.

The arrest were made between June 28 and July 1 in Kedah, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and Penang. All 15 are being held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

Two of the arrested were low-ranked police officers, he said. One of them was supposedly plotting robberies in Kuala Lumpur to raise funds for IS cells in Kuala Lumpur.

The other police officer is suspected to have been harbouring a senior IS militant.

The rest were either self-employed or worked in factories. The suspects are all Malaysian citizens, male, and their ages ranged from 19 to 52.

The attack on Movida, which occurred in the wee hours of the morning, left eight people injured. The police had initially ruled out terrorism, saying it could be gang-related.

However, a Facebook user, linked to IS militant Muhamad Wanndy, had posted that the militant group was responsible for the attack.

    IS cells

Meanwhile, Khalid also appealed to the public to help provide information on the whereabouts of two other suspects, whose photographs and details were released to the media.

They are Md Saifuddin Muji from Rengit, Johor, and Jasanizam Rosni from Batu Pahat, Johor. The duo are wanted to assist investigations on the Movida attack.

In appealing for public’s assistance, Khalid said the arrest of the 15 would not have been possible without information provided by members of the public.

Commenting on the Movida attack, Khalid said the weapon was an old Second World War-era ‘mini-grenade’ that was used in combat and in training. It is believed to have been brought from a ‘neighbouring country’.

However, no firearms or explosives were recovered in the 15 arrests made so far.

“No, but we have found various edged (sharp) weapons, IS flags, balaclavas, and so on,” he said when asked.

More arrests are expected to be made soon, he said.

The police are also monitoring several other IS cells operating in Malaysia, whom he said are receiving instructions from Syria via social media.

“There are a few cells that we know of, which receive direct instructions from people in Syria. There are female operatives there who are giving direct instructions here, and there are also male IS members there who are giving instructions – all through social media.

“That is why I made it my focus this year to monitor social media. It is not to go into some private conversation, but to ensure all these (are kept in check),” he said.

Meanwhile, when asked about the terrorist attacks in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka last Friday, Khalid confirmed that two of those involved in the attack had studied in a Malaysian private university.

However, he urged reporters not to jump to conclusions, as his Bangladeshi counterparts have yet to determine whether the duo were perpetrators or victims of the attack.

“So please be careful when you report things. You don’t simply pick up from social media and report they are the attackers. It is dangerous […]

“Whichever the case, we take this matter seriously. If it is true that they are involved, we have to see if they are radicalised here or somewhere else. So please be patient for now, be careful before you report anything,” he said.

He was responding to a report by The Star earlier today claiming that one of the militants involved in the Dhaka attack had previously studied in Monash University’s campus in Bandar Sunway, Selangor.

Khalid said he did not believe the former students would have been radicalised here, or that the university is a hotbed of militant activity. However, he maintained that the police would investigate.

The attack at a Dhaka café left about 20 dead, before Bangladeshi police stormed them and rescued the remaining 18 hostages.

Six of the militants were killed in the police assault, while another was captured.

Terrorists – “A group of Muslims who carry out acts of terror, killing vastly Muslims in the name of Islam (average 90% of victims, if not all of them), especially in one of the holiest month of the Islamic calendar.”
