Malaysia Shamelessly Claimed That Indonesia’s Kuda Warisan Is Their Own Traditional Costume

Miss Grand Malaysia Organisation has revealed the costume our Miss Grand Malaysia 2017 will be wearing at the Miss Grand International pageant – and it has some serious horsepower!

Called the Kuda Warisan, it was picked as the winner among 50 entries in a contest organised by the Miss Grand Malaysia Organisation. Kuda Warisan was designed by a Malaysian named Hana Yaakob.

According to the organisation, the costume is inspired by the Javanese community residing in the northern state of Johor in the early 20th century, where the migration of the said community brought along its unique culture, including the Kuda Kepang dance.

The Kuda Kepang dance was usually performed during festivities, and in 1971, the Johor government acknowledged the dance as a symbolic sign of unity and diversity.

The one-of-a-kind costume will be worn by Sanjeda John, Miss Grand Malaysia 2017.

The Kuda Warisan will be going up against 80 other national costumes from all over the world for the Best in National Costume award, which, by the way, also includes a US$1,000 (RM4,200) cash prize from Miss Grand International Organisation.

The grand finale of Miss Grand International 2017 will take place at the Vinpearl Resort in Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam on 25 October.

The winner will be walking away with US$40,000 (RM169,100) and will become the face of the organisation’s “Stop the War and Violence” worldwide campaign.

So, here’s to hoping that Sanjeda John’s horse will make it to the finish line first.
