  • Parenting Begins With The Light Of Rasulullah

Parenting Begins With The Light Of Rasulullah

    Salam Zulhijjah, everyone!

May Allah shower His blessings and love in this blessed month and help us in obedience. AMin.

    MashaALLAH.

It was a speechless experience learning with a mashaAllah Hubabah Umm Islam from Tarim, Yemen.

Nothing is happiness, except be with people who reminds us of Akhirah, of Rasulullah, and of Jannah.

Allow me to summarise a little of what we learnt, inshaAllah.

    May this little benefit.

    ===============

    Women & Parenting

    ===============

1.Parenting begins before marriage – so choose your spouse carefully.

2.Parenting begins during the intercourse – so always remember to recite the du’a: “”I am having relations in the name of Allah. O Allah save us from Satan and keep him away from the children You grant us”. The child that is born after the recitation of this dua will never be harmed by Satan.
    (Bukhari, Muslim)

3.Parenting begins at home – if you want the light of Rasulullah to enter your home, so take care of these 3:

    • TAHAJJUD = Wake them up, and let them play during tahajjud.
    • AZAN = Protect azan by be silent, and  reply the azan with an intention for Allah.
    • AURAH= If wewant to see and dream of Rasulullah, take care of our aurah even at home.

    EmilysQuotes.Com-amazing-great-inspirational-being-a-good-person-wisdom-Rumi

4.Parenting begins with Lafaz Jalalah – the word ALLAH.

    • Teach them to recite Surah Al-Ikhlas 10 times every day, because Allah will build a house for you in Jannah.
    • Teach them to recite “Subhanaallah Wabihamdih Subhanallahil Azimi Wabihamdih, because Allah will build a garden for you in Jannah.

    5. Parenting must be with a SMILE & SOFTNESS.

Lawyer Eugene Thuraisingam To Defend 3 Charged In Thaipusam Case Pro Bono, Help By Donating

Lawyer Eugene Thuraisingam has taken the Thaipusam case to the High Court on behalf of 3 Tamil Hindus . He has undertaken this work pro bono, ie voluntarily and without payment.

Having interacted with him over this case, I am strucked by his professionalism, dedication and vast amount of time and resources spent on this case. He has even laid down $20,000 as security deposit in order to pursue this case as required by the High Court.

We hope Singaporeans, especially the Tamil community will rally behind and support this cause as the 3 men need to raise at least $30,000 to pursue this matter .

  • Designing The Al-Islah Mosque

    Designing The Al-Islah Mosque

Singapore studio Formwerkz Architects took references from traditional Islamic design to create the intricately patterned and moulded surfaces of this mosque.

Al Islah Mosque by Formwerkz Architects

The Al-Islah Mosque by Formwerkz Architects caters for the Muslim population of Punggol, a densely populated neighbourhood in north-east Singapore.

The area is currently undergoing significant redevelopment, with the Singapore Institute of Technology due to relocate to a new campus near a waterfront park by LOOK Architects and high-rise housing being erected to accommodate the rising population.

The mosque is segmented into three volumes – a prayer hall, an Islamic education centre and an administration block – to give the structure a more domestic scale within the built-up area.

These blocks are linked by a series of elevated and landscaped terraces that are open to the public.

Al Islah Mosque by Formwerkz Architects

“The new mosque aspires to be a model of openness, reflective of contemporary Islamic aspirations in Singapore,” said architect Alan Tay. “This ambition for the openness posed much challenges in view of the tight site and its proximity to the neighbouring flats.”

“Physical porosity allows a visual connection to the neighbourhood and extends its spatial field beyond its boundary but poses the issues of sanctity and threshold expected of a mosque.”

Al Islah Mosque by Formwerkz Architects

Latticed screens form walls and the dome over the prayer hall, to enhance the feeling openness while also providing ventilation and natural lighting for the spaces within.

The reinforced concrete structures are covered with sand-coloured textured paint. Elements such as the dome, arched doorways and a slender minaret are picked out in dark grey paintwork.

“The basic arabesque pattern and arches are influenced by traditional Islamic forms,” explained studio co-founder Alan Tay. “The arches are designed to allow a wider span in the prayer hall and cantilever in the main entrance foyer.”

Al Islah Mosque by Formwerkz Architects

The 3,700-square-metre mosque can accommodate up to 4,500 worshippers at any one time, with service areas including an underground car park all designed to be used as extensions of a domed prayer hall.

The prayer hall has open sides that allow the congregation to spill into adjacent spaces during peak worship times. These areas are shielded from the weather by a large overhanging canopy.

Al Islah Mosque by Formwerkz Architects

“In peak periods, most of the floor space – with the exception of bathrooms, admin space and service rooms – is utilised for prayer,” Tay told Dezeen. “Corridors, classrooms, roof terraces and even the basement car park double up as prayer spaces.”

Al Islah Mosque by Formwerkz Architects

“With no boundary walls and minimum enclosing wall, the worship hall is visually and physically accessible on all sides, blurring the distinction between the mosque premise and the street,” he added.

  • City Harvest Trial: Church ‘Suffered No Wrongful Loss’

City Harvest Trial: Church ‘Suffered No Wrongful Loss’

The long-running City Harvest trial closed yesterday, with four of the accused stressing that there was no wrongful loss suffered by City Harvest Church (CHC).

They said they were entitled legally to invest church funds in the music career of the pastor’s wife as it was a church objective.

This was their stand as lawyers on both sides wrapped up their closing submissions on the 140th day of the trial. A verdict will be delivered on Oct 21 by Presiding Judge of the State Courts See Kee Oon.

Senior Counsel N. Sreenivasan, acting for 42-year-old deputy senior pastor Tan Ye Peng, said it was “crystal clear” to church auditors and lawyers that money from CHC’s building fund was invested in pop singer Ho Yeow Sun’s music career.

“The money that went out came back to the church, with interest,” he said, adding that evidence showed the church was allowed to invest in Ms Ho’s career.

But whether this investment was an authorised use of the building fund, is a point disputed by the prosecution. Ms Ho is the wife of senior pastor Kong Hee, 51.

Kong, Tan and four others are accused of misappropriating $24 million in CHC’s building funds through sham bond investments in music production firm Xtron and glass maker Firna, and of misusing a further $26 million to cover it up.

The four others are former finance managers Serina Wee, 38, and Sharon Tan, 39, and former investment committee members Chew Eng Han, 55, and John Lam, 47. The bonds were used to bankroll Ms Ho’s music career. CHC wanted to use her music to spread the Gospel through what it called the Crossover Project.

Wee’s lawyer, Senior Counsel Andre Maniam, said it was “very significant” that the prosecution did not dispute that the Crossover Project was in line with church objectives.

“The prosecution says that we are like Robin Hood, trying to justify robbing the rich to give to the poor… Here, it was church funds being used to further church objectives, not taking money from rich to give to poor,” said Mr Maniam.

Chew, representing himself, said the funds were invested in Xtron and Firna – which had legal obligations to return the money. But the recoverability of the bonds was based on projections of Ms Ho’s unreleased US album – for which his fellow co-accused had to rely on Kong . “For the obvious reason that the one that has the most knowledge and the one that’s managing it is Kong Hee himself,” said Chew.

He also hit back at the prosecution, who called his evidence incoherent on Monday.

Chew, who has three decades of experience in finance, said: “Just because the prosecution cannot understand my explanation, doesn’t mean I’ve contradicted myself between my evidence-in-chief and submissions. I think they had better go and take some courses in financial markets before they throw insults at me.”

Meanwhile, Sharon Tan’s lawyer Paul Seah reiterated that his client was “merely a worker taking instructions and carrying them out”.

The lawyers for Kong and Lam responded on Monday.

Rounding up the submissions, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mavis Chionh called into question the defence’s argument that the accused had acted in good faith.

She asked the court to consider their actions over the years – such as when Kong told CHC executive members in 2007 that the building fund was to be invested to preserve its value, while at the same time, he planned to spend $13 million from it on Ms Ho’s music career.
