Goh Chok Tong: Longstanding Differences Contributed To Dispute, Not House, Money

ESM Goh Chok Tong said that the dispute  over the Lee family home is only a fig leaf for the deep cracks within the family, He asked: “What then is the agenda of PM’s accusers? Are they whistleblowing in a noble effort to save Singapore, or waging a personal vendetta without any care for the damage done to Singapore? I have kept my ears open. From what Lee Hsien Yang and his wife are freely telling many others, it is clear that their goal is to bring Lee Hsien Loong down as PM, regardless of the huge collateral damage suffered by the Government and Singaporeans.”

It is now no more a cynical parlour game. If the Lee siblings choose to squander the good name and legacy of Lee Kuan Yew, and tear their relationship apart, it is tragic but a private family affair. But if in the process of their self-destruction, they destroy Singapore too, that is a public affair.

Unsubstantiated accusations have been dished out on Facebook and the media, ad nauseam. Singaporeans are getting sick and tired of all this. We cannot, and will not, allow ourselves to be manipulated as pawns.

There must be a clear conclusion at the end of this debate. Either we clear PM over the allegation on his abuse of power or we censure him.

  • Local Author Tells Lee Wei And Lee Hsien Yang What To Do To To Gain Upper Hand In OxLee Drama

Local Author Tells Lee Wei And Lee Hsien Yang What To Do To To Gain Upper Hand In OxLee Drama

What LWL and LHY should’ve done:

    1. Leak a huge cache of documents to WikiLeaks. It must contain stuff relating to 38 Oxley Road but also rubbish like birth certs.

    2. Anonymously inform The Guardian about the leak. Add that there is enough evidence to bring down PM Lee.

    3. Let The Guardian’s investigative journalists do the work for you. If they own the story and it’s a scoop, they will chase it harder. Plus, of course, the paper has more credibility internationally than ST.

    4. When the story breaks, issue a press statement that your computers have been hacked.

    5. Watch quietly as your sibling tries to wriggle out of the trap.

Facebook – social media in general – is not the proper platform for expose. It might excite people for a few days, set tongues and tales wagging, but it is an ephemeral medium. Like invisible ink, it is read once and disappears.

Your strategy was all wrong from the outset.

    BONUS:

The logical thing for LHY and LWL to do now is work with the Workers Party MPs. Feed them inside information, documents etc. Let them do the hatchet job for you in Parliament on July 3.

  • Why Didn’t PAP Malay MPs And Ministers Defend Perkampungan Melayu Geylang Serai From Being Demolished?

Why Didn’t PAP Malay MPs And Ministers Defend Perkampungan Melayu Geylang Serai From Being Demolished?

The house where LKY has stayed during his lifetime has so much interest that his son wanted to preserve it. Just one man.

Geylang Serai Perkampungan Melayu where the whole of the Malay Community gathers, conduct events, congregate, shops and walk, was demolished without any fun-fare. No secret committee set up. Nothing.

Not one of our Malay MPs stood up to preserve it.They even agreed to demolish it to make way for a new building.

We deserve the kind of leaders we vote for. The Malays are weak politically because we have emasculated leaders trying to score political points with the PAP at the expense of the community.

  • Netizen: Lee Hsien Loong Needs To Be Answerable To Public On Accusations By Siblings

Netizen: Lee Hsien Loong Needs To Be Answerable To Public On Accusations By Siblings

No, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, we need answers/ specific clarifications (if possible, independent inquiry) into these allegations:

    1) that you used your position as prime minister to obtain documents (Deed of Gift) given to the ministry via Lawrence Wong. (abuse of powers)

    2) that your wife, Ho Ching, has ‘pervasive influence’ that ‘extends well beyond her job purview’ despite not being an elected official or govt official. (conflict of interest and overreach of power)

    3) that you made your personal lawyer, Lucien Wong, the Attorney-General in Jan 2017. (favouritism/ nepotism)

    4) that you monitored your two siblings so much that Lee Hsien Yang, your own brother, wants to leave the country. (threatening/ police state)

  • Lee Wei Ling: This Is About Singaporeans, Not About Our Home

Lee Wei Ling: This Is About Singaporeans, Not About Our Home

I am out of Singapore, with erratic and slow internet connection. The article that appeared in the Singapore press gave PM’s version of the story. Our letter was carefully vetted by our lawyers and obviously not in my own voice.

My American friend who is the tour leader of my Scottish island holiday thought it a family quarrel. If it were merely a family affair, we would not have taken it public. The main message is not Hsien Yang & I fearing what PM will do to us. The most important point I want to put across is if PM can misuse his official power to abuse his siblings who can fight back, what else can he do to ordinary citizens. But our lawyer edited that main message out, and as Hsien Yang got most of the bullying, he could not help but allow his emotion to be expressed in the press statement. That is what led my American friend to conclude that it is a family quarrel.

38 Oxley Road was bought by my parents, it is for them to decide what its fate is. My Father had told us, his children, repeatedly, that being family property, there is no need to donate to charity if Oxley were sold. Hsien Loong, as a condition for selling the house to Hsien Yang, and in his attempt to punish Hsien Yang for blocking what he wants to do with the house, stipulated that in addition to paying Hsien Loong the market value of the house, he must also donate 50% of that value to charity.

Hsien Loong and Ho Ching are finally showing their true colours. I think these Colours show them unsuitable as PM and most certainly as PM’s wife of Singapore.
