  • Dutch Design Executive Jailed Three Weeks For Beating Taxi Driver

Dutch Design Executive Jailed Three Weeks For Beating Taxi Driver

A design executive who slammed a car door on a taxi driver and then beat him up was jailed for three weeks on Friday (June 19).

Dutchman Dino Petrus Johannes van Deijzen, 34, had admitted causing hurt to Mr Ee Kah Ling, 42, at the open air carpark at Block 538 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 at 12.58am on Oct 21 last year.

The court heard that van Deijzen and his girlfriend were heavily intoxicated when they boarded the victim’s taxi at Dunlop Street and directed him to go to Block 538 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5. They slept in the rear passenger seat.

When the taxi reached the block, the girlfriend vomited inside the taxi.

Mr Ee then asked the couple to exit, and approached van Deijzen for the fare and resolve the issue of the vomit.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Chin Jincheng said the couple ignored him and walked away, without paying.

Mr Ee then said he would call the police. He walked back to his taxi.

While Mr Ee was retrieving his mobile phone, van Deijzen slammed the car door on him and punched him.

When Mr Ee tried to escape, van Deijzen chased him and pushed him to the ground. He then punched and kicked him all over his body.

The acts of violence were captured by the in-vehicle CCTV camera of the taxi.

Mr Ee was taken to hospital with slight redness over his chest wall and multiple abrasions on his arms and leg. He was given five days’ medical leave.

Seeking a fine, defence counsel Ang Gek Peng had said in his mitigation plea that his client was not a violent person, and had acted out of character.

Mr Chin had argued that it was a sustained one-sided assault and that van Deijzen was the aggressor.

District Judge Imran Abdul Hamid noted that the victim had also engaged in a scuffle with van Deijzen and traded blows, which would have explained the blunt force trauma suffered by the accused.

The maximum penalty for voluntary causing hurt is two years’ jail and a $5,000 fine.

    Kindergarten Teacher Staples Boy’s Ear

    Ouch, that’s got to hurt.

A kindergarten teacher in Fujian province, China, has been suspended after sending her four-year-old student home on Monday (June 8) with a new piercing — a staple in his ear.

Media reports did not state why the teacher had done so.

The child’s mother posted images of his swollen ear on Weibo.

She had found the staple while giving him a bath. That’s when he began crying in pain.

The county education bureau confirmed the incident.

  • Woman Told Off Man For Physically Abusing Tudung-Clad Wife But Victim Played Down Incident

Woman Told Off Man For Physically Abusing Tudung-Clad Wife But Victim Played Down Incident

I will tell you why the Asian mentality is extremely hopeless sometimes.

Boarding on a Malindo Airlines flight from BKI to KUL on OD1003.

This man on the right repeatedly slapped the lady in tudung on her head a few times over – I heard about 3 smacks and turn around to see his hand moving towards her head again. It was a loud smack that we all could hear and shocked me enough to turn around. Lady was crying as they walked to board the plane.

Many others including myself saw it and no one seems to care or was too busy staring at their phones to notice! There’s these two big burly looking men walking right behind the couple and myself and I am positively sure they saw it too.

When I told him off and raised my voice – the two men told me to hush and not to create trouble. They then pat the man in red on the back and told him to just calm down, bincang nanti and looked over to the girl and said Sudah, Sudah. Girl looked at me and told me “no no it’s ok. Sudah biasa takpe masalah sahaja”

They then also turned around and told me that people have troubles and don’t worry about it. They also asked if I really did see it?

And also here we are in an airport about to board the plane – you would think that security and staffs are constantly alert and observant.

No one else said a thing. No one.

How have we as a society – and unfortunately I see this much more in an Asian society, turn a blind eye even when something that is obviously wrong happening right in front of you?

All these bunch of people standing around us – I am so sad and disappointed to be living amongst you. I am so sad that we let a man hit a woman in public and let him get away with it. I am sad that when confronted this woman who was hit, think it’s ok for her partner(which I am assuming he is) to treat her like that in public. I am annoyed that Malindo staff standing right at the door of the plane said nothing and allow this man to board the flight.

For every time that you say nothing, do nothing and not speak up when someone use aggression onto you or another person – you are silently encouraging and applauding this person’s action.

Violence against women is never right. Violence against men is also never right. Violence against anything will never be right.

It is an even bigger problem when you as a victim choose to brush this off and let your aggressor get away with their actions. I am extremely sad because it clearly shows our education and society has failed to create a safe environment for victims to feel safe if they are attacked. I am sad because our education system (if there is any…) has failed to raise strong independent women. We have failed to raise men to have respect.

There is nothing right about this situation at all.

  • Maid Punched, Slapped For Eating Fish Not Meant For Her

Maid Punched, Slapped For Eating Fish Not Meant For Her

In 2012, a Filipino maid jumped from the bedroom window of a sixth-floor condominium unit to escape the alleged abuse by her employer and her employer’s mother.

A district court heard that she landed on the fifth-floor rooftop of another building at Maplewoods condominium and broke her legs as a result.

Her employer, Chua Siew Peng, 43, went on trial yesterday for wrongfully confining Ms Jonna Memeje Muegue at the Bukit Timah Road condominium on Oct 30, 2012, and slapping her the night before.

Her 74-year-old mother, retired radiograph and medicine technician Lum Wai Lui, will know her fate next month for allegedly pulling the maid’s hair, knocking her head on the wall and pouring bleach on her hands and arms on Oct 29 that year.

Chua’s 41-year-old sister, Kathleen Chua Siew Wei, is also accused of slapping the maid sometime in May that year.

Yesterday, Ms Muegue, 26, who is now working for another employer, testified that she was initially treated well when she started work in December 2011.

She said she was never given the key to the unit’s door and gate from the time she began working for the family.

She said Lui, whom she called “por por” (grandmother), punished her for eating fish that was not meant for her on Oct 29 that year. After Lum found out, she punched, slapped and slammed Ms Muegue’s head against the wall of the kitchen toilet.

Ms Muegue said: “She used bleach on me and she poured bleach on my hands and my body.”

A few minutes later, she said, Chua Siew Peng came in and pulled her hair and slapped her many times.

Chua then told her to stand in one corner of the toilet and to take a shower at around midnight.

In the morning, she was alone in the flat when she climbed out of a bedroom window and escaped.

She was later referred to the Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics and a police report was lodged. She was warded in hospital and then admitted to a nursing home.

    The hearing continues.

  • 28 Year Old Man Jailed For Having Sex With 14 Year Old Step-Daughter

28 Year Old Man Jailed For Having Sex With 14 Year Old Step-Daughter

A 28 year old man was sentenced to 6 years in jail for having a sexual relationship with his eldest step daughter and making her pregnant.

The man had started having a sexual relationship with the girl when she was just 14 and he had sex with her about twice a month for 2 years.

The offences first started in July 2011 and during the course of their consensual relationship, the girl also got pregnant and gave birth to a boy earlier this year.

The court heard that the girl did not know that she was pregnant even though she had started to put on weight on her belly in August last year.

The accused had noticed the swelling of the abdomen but the girl simply said that she didn’t have any other symptoms of pregnancy.

The court explained that the man was in a position of trust and influence over the young girl and he had abused that relationship for his own sexual gain.

The man was charged with 45 charges but he pleaded guilty to 9.
