From A Non-Muslim To Muslims: May The Blessed Month Of Ramadan Be Upon You Once Again

    Ramadhan and Aidil Fitri

Ive talked to 3 friends yesterday. As a non Muslim, i ignorantly told them “tahan lagi! One more day and you dont have to fast!”

To my suprise, all three reprimanded me. I honestly thought they would say “insya Allah!”. Nope. Instead, they, on separate occassions, told me the same thing along this line :” no! I will miss Ramadhan and the fasting. It was a beautiful experience and i cant wait for the next Ramadhan to come!”

Long have we live under the same roof and yet we couldnt truly empathize or understand the true feelings of each other. I am quite confident that most non-Muslim friends, out of good will, would have thought that our Muslims friends and family will find relief towards the end of Ramadhan, assuming that fasting is some sort of hardship to them.

Most Muslim however will reply you quite the otherwise, that the fasting month really give them peace, solace, and is definitely a privilege to look forward to.

I then recalled Monyet King (now Pisang Raja)’s story about his maid, who never fast when she was back jn indonesia, but fasted religiously as she starts her work here in KL. The reason was simple: back in Indonesia she survived as a poor hard labour and needed to eat to work so that her family can be fed. Now that she has a better life in malaysia she can then indulge in her religious obligation to fast, of which she did so voluntarily and jovially.

The Ramadhan is truly a humbling month for all to enjoy. The annual affair reminds muslim to be forgiving, patience, and to empathize with the less fortunate. Working in a 99% Muslim organization, i must say that i felt their effort in improving their “zahir” and “batin”. I felt their peace, their forgiveness, and patience. It is a beautiful reminder to all.

Another friend told me, she looked forward to ramadhan more so than syawal’s aidil fitri. Reason is simple : Ramadhan gave her peace and she found solace with The Creator through her efforts of humbling herself. Syawal Aidil Fitri on the otherhand is just another festive and cultural celebration disproportionately blown up through heavy capitalism, consumerism, and commercialization.

A true muslim, she said, will appreciate Ramadhan more than the Eid, and i tend to concur with her.

Now that ramadhan has come to an end, I hope the month long of endurance and peace would extend to all mankind throughout the year.

Selamat Hari Raya aidil Fitri and May the next blessed and holy month of Ramadhan reach all of us in no time.

  • Non-Muslim Employer: Thanks To Random Stranger, My Indonesian-Muslim Maid Can Taste Aidilfitri

Non-Muslim Employer: Thanks To Random Stranger, My Indonesian-Muslim Maid Can Taste Aidilfitri

Almost afraid to post this but it has been a very interesting start to Hari Raya for me.

My helper is from Indonesia. She’s my age, alone in a foreign land, with no friends, no family and barely any way to contact her home. For whatever reason, she had chosen not to take the holiday off, and instead opting to be paid for it.

My family sat down today for a steamboat lunch. It was a pork-based soup, so she couldn’t have any. Saw her seated in the kitchen huddled over a bowl of maggi (granted it had all the halal ingredients we had for the steamboat) and my heart broke.

Stepped out of the house in an attempt to buy a few bits of food to make her day better, and realised I had NO idea what constituted Hari Raya food. Had to stop and ask random Malay strangers for their suggestions. I was so embarrassed and flushed that my specs were fogging up.

Bumped into this guy in traditional garb and asked him for suggestions as well, and was so humbled and amazed when he offered for me to go to his house and collect food. Took his number, and half an hour later was walking home with a giant bag of food. Gave it to my helper and could see her choking back tears.

This has been such a humbling and heartwarming experience. I do love Singapore so much. Here’s thanking the random stranger for his big heart. (I found his profile on FB using his number, but I think tagging him is a bit too creepy haha!)

  • DAP MP Nga Kor Ming Investigated For Insulting Post On Aidilfitri

DAP MP Nga Kor Ming Investigated For Insulting Post On Aidilfitri

KEPALA BATAS, July 8 — Two NGOs today lodged four police reports against Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming of the DAP over what they claimed to be a Facebook post that insulted Aidilfitri.

The Malaysia Heritage Club (Keris) and Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs Penang made the reports at the police station here through Keris Secretary-General Azman Hassan and MAYC Penang Chairman Saiful Anuar.

Azman claimed that Nga’s Facebook post carried a caricature of children and guests receiving Aidilfitri ‘duit raya’ cash packets and likened it to bribery.

“Nga’s action is clearly an insult demeaning a noble deed at a time when Muslims are celebrating Aidilfitri,” he told reporters after lodging the reports at the police station.

He said it was hoped that the police would investigate the person who drew the caricature as well as the owner and administrator of the Facebook account.

Azman said Nga, as an elected representative, should have been more sensitive and not link the Aidilfitri celebration to political elements.

“We ask Nga to withdraw the post and make an open apology in the same Facebook account,” he said. — Bernama

  • Mencuri, Edar Dadah, Demi Persiapan Hari Raya

Mencuri, Edar Dadah, Demi Persiapan Hari Raya

SURI RUMAH CURI DOMPET SEORANG NENEK

Seorang suri rumah di Palembang Indonesia mencuri dompet seorang nenek yang bernama Hajah Rokiah semasa beliau sedang memilih baju muslimah di sebuah kedai.

Menurut maklumat yang diterima laman Merdeka.com, suspek bertindak semasa mangsanya sedang leka lantas dia melanggar mangsa sehingga mangsa hampir terjatuh sebelum mencuri dompet nenek berkenaan.

Mujur pemilik kedai itu mula berasa curiga dan memberitahu mangsa, menyebabkan mangsa segera menjerit.

Meskipun suspek cuba melarikan diri, dia akhirnya berjaya ditangkap dan berkata: ‘’Saya mahu membeli baju Hari Raya.’’

TERTARIK JADI PENGEDAR DADAH DEMI WANG BELANJA HARI RAYA

  • Bazaar Geylang Stallholders Must Stop Monkey-See, Monkey-Do Mentality, Create Fresh Products

Bazaar Geylang Stallholders Must Stop Monkey-See, Monkey-Do Mentality, Create Fresh Products

How do people expect to succeed when doing business when they are just monkey see, monkey do? I have visited bazaar at Geylang, Tampines and Woodlands, and no guesses what the trend for this year. Drinks (particularly Thai milk tea) served in BIG cups and BIG sotongs. Then one do ondeh-ondeh, all do ondeh-ondeh. So if everyone is selling similar things, how do you make money?

Isn’t the point of business is to sell something that sets you apart from your competitors? The selling point of YOUR product. But it is so typical to see one person doing well, so let’s all sell the same things.

And then you wonder why the watermelon volcano is doing well… and no guesses that it is not Malay owned. Hmmmm.
