    3 Arrested For Riding ‘Modified’ E-Scooters Over 100kmh, Records States Fastest Clocked Was 130kmh

    Three men have been arrested for dangerous driving after they were caught riding their electric scooters at speeds of more than 100kmh.

    Police said that the three, aged between 32 and 37, were arrested for dangerous driving along Nicoll Drive last Saturday (Oct 14) at 2.05am. Investigations are ongoing.

    Channel NewsAsia understands that the e-scooters were travelling at speeds of more than 100kmh.

    Facebook group Use Your RoadSense reported that the highest speed clocked by the e-scooters was 130kmh, although Facebook users who commented on the post expressed incredulity that the personal mobility devices could reach such speeds.

    “All road users are urged to drive and ride safely and to abide strictly to traffic rules and regulations,” police said. “Such dangerous and inconsiderate riding behaviour has to be taken seriously as it endangers the rider and other road users. The Police will not hesitate to take firm action against such offenders.”

    There were 90 accidents involving power-assisted bicycles and personal mobility devices for the first six months of this year, resulting in four deaths and about 90 injuries.

    tomper Eugenia was near IKEA Tampines when she saw a group of e-scooter riders travelling with young kids.

    Two men and a woman were riding the e-scooters and a young boy and girl were sitting on the decks of the men’s scooters, holding on to the handlebar stem.

    This is dangerous on all levels, not to mention that nobody in the group was wearing a helmet as a safety precaution.

    “Some people shouldn’t be allowed to have kids,” said the Stomper.

    Bus Seats Mistaken For Burqas By Members Of Anti-Immigrant Group

    A Norwegian anti-immigrant group has been roundly ridiculed after members apparently mistook a photograph of six empty bus seats posted on its Facebook page for a group of women wearing burqas.

    “Tragic”, “terrifying” and “disgusting” were among the comments posted by members of the closed Fedrelandet viktigst, or “Fatherland first”, group beneath the photograph, according to screenshots on the Norwegian news website Nettavisen.

    Other members of the 13,000-strong group, for people “who love Norway and appreciate what our ancestors fought for”, wondered whether the non-existent passengers might be carrying bombs or weapons beneath their clothes. “This looks really scary,” wrote one. “Should be banned. You can’t tell who’s underneath. Could be terrorists.”

    Further comments read: “Ghastly. This should never happen,” “Islam is and always will be a curse,” “Get them out of our country – frightening times we are living in,” and: “I thought it would be like this in the year 2050, but it is happening NOW,” according to thelocal.no and other media.

    The photograph, found on the internet, was posted “for a joke” last week by Johan Slåttavik, who has since described himself as “Norway’s worst web troll and proud of it”, beneath a question asking the group: “What do people think of this?”

    Slåttavik told Nettavisen and Norway’s TV2 he wanted to “highlight the difference between legitimate criticism of immigration and blind racism”, and was “interested to see how people’s perceptions of an image are influenced by how others around them react. I ended up having a good laugh.”

    It went viral in Norway after Sindre Beyer, a former Labour party MP who said he has been following Fatherland first for some time, published 23 pages of screenshots of the group’s outraged comments.

    “What happens when a photo of some empty bus seats is posted to a disgusting Facebook group, and nearly everyone thinks they see a bunch of burqas?” he asked in a post shared more than 1,800 times.

    The comments suggested the vast majority of the anti-immigrant group’s members saw the photo as evidence of the ongoing “Islamification” of Norway, although a small number pointed out it was in fact a picture of bus seats. One warned the group was making itself look ridiculous.

    Beyer told Nettavisen: “I’m shocked at how much hate and fake news is spread [on the Fedrelandet viktigst page]. So much hatred against empty bus seats certainly shows that prejudice wins out over wisdom.”

    The head of Norway’s Antiracist Centre, Rune Berglund Steen, told the site that people plainly “see what they want to see – and what these people want to see are dangerous Muslims”.

    Norway recently became the latest European country to propose restrictions on the wearing of burqas and niqabs, tabling a law that will bar them from kindergartens, schools and universities. France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Bulgaria and the German state of Bavaria all restrict full-face veils in some public places.

    The country’s minority government, a coalition of the centre-right Conservatives and the populist Progress party that faces elections next month, said in June it was confident it would find opposition support for the move.

    Per Sandberg, then acting immigration and integration minister, told a press conference that face-covering garments such as the niqab or burqa “do not belong in Norwegian schools. The ability to communicate is a basic value.”

    Ngee Ann Poly Makes Police Report Over Blog Targeting Students

    Some girls from Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) who had posted on social media photos of themselves dressed in shorts, yoga pants, bikinis and dresses were horrified when they discovered that those images were reposted with lewd captions on micro-blogging platform Tumblr.

    Thirteen girls were affected. When NP found out about the blog, it lodged a police report.

    The blog, which targeted female students from NP, surfaced on May 10. The New Paper spoke to six victims, who confirmed they were from NP.

    A final-year student, 19, who found out about her reposted photos through a friend, told TNP: “The text that accompanied the posts disgusted me.

    “I am aware of how dangerous the Internet can be, but it is not a valid reason for sexual harassment under any circumstances.”

    She has since made all of her social media platforms private and deleted photos that could be considered mildly sexual.

    Another 19-year-old victim, who graduated earlier this year, said it is unnerving to know that NP was targeted.

    A 20-year-old final-year student who was also a victim said she e-mailed the user and asked him to take the photos down but to no avail.

    “We posted those pictures for fun, for our friends to see, not for some perverts to use our pictures and make offensive remarks about us.”

    Criminal lawyer Ravinderpal Singh of Kalco Law told TNP that such an act could be a crime. He said: “It is a breach of the Harassment Act and Section 509 of the Penal Code for the offence of insulting a woman’s modesty.” An NP spokesman told TNP that the school has lodged a police report.

    TNP contacted the person behind the blog on Tuesday but did not receive a reply. Yesterday, the blog was taken down.

    Chairman of the Media Literacy Council, Mr Lock Wai Han, said: “When posting on a website or account that is public, we should be aware that what we do and share is accessible to anyone, and avoid posting photos or other information that may be misused.”

    Clinical psychologist Carol Balhetchet said: “The culprit has a fetish and is victimising (the girls), and (the blog) encourages other people to follow in his footsteps.”

    The victims TNP spoke to said how they dress does not translate into them inviting such comments.

    One of them said: “Some of the girls on the page did not even dress in a revealing way. This clearly shows that it does not matter what we post, but what the viewer chooses to do with it.”

    Traffic Police: Driving Against Traffic Flow – 1 Arrested, 3 Assisting In Investigations

    The Traffic Police have identified four out of five drivers who were allegedly driving against the flow of traffic recently, police said on Friday (Jan 6).

    One driver has been arrested while three are assisting with investigations.

    A 30-year-old man believed to have driven against the flow of traffic along AYE towards Tuas on Jan 5 was arrested for reckless or dangerous driving, police said.

    The other three are:

    • An 85-year-old man who allegedly drove against the flow of traffic along Bedok North Street 1 towards Bedok North Avenue 3 on Dec 28 last year;
    • A 42-year-old male driver who alleged took a wrong turn against the flow of traffic along Cavenagh Road towards Bukit Timah Road on Jan 5;
    • A 28-year-old man driving along CTE towards SLE when he is believed to have lost control of his car, causing it to spin and hit the road divider, before it stopped in the opposite direction of traffic, on Jan 2.

    Police are investigating another case of a vehicle allegedly going against traffic along Gateway Drive towards Westgate Shopping Centre on Jan 2.
