    Commentary: All 4 Elected Presidents So Far Are Either Ex-PAP Ministers Or From Gov’s Ranks

    So it is a walkover. Singaporeans will not need to vote for their next President. True to form; a long, iniquitous history of rigging the system. From third world to first economically, and the reverse politically–the country’s lurched from minimalist electoral democracy to illiberal democracy to sham democracy. As Andrew Loh has detailed.:

    “After JB Jeyaretnam won Anson in 1981’s by-election, they introduced the Non-constituency MP (NCMP) scheme in 1984.

    After both JB Jeyaretnam and Chiam See Tong won seats in 1984, they introduced the GRC system in 1988.

    After Low Thia Khiang won Hougang in 1991 and the SDP won 3 constituencies, they increased the size of GRCs from 3-4 to 5-6 in the 1997 GE.

    After the WP won Aljunied in 2011, they announced changes to the Town Council Act.

    After President Ong Teng Cheong became president in 1993 and questioned them about the reserves, they went back and changed the Constitutional powers of the Elected President in 1994, which allowed the govt to bypass the president’s scrutiny when statutory boards and Government companies transfer their reserves to the Government.

    And now, after Tan Cheng Bock almost won the last presidential election, they have – once again – gone back to change the Constitution, to introduce the “Reserved Election” which allows them to bar all Chinese from such an election, including someone like Dr Tan.

    And finally, while the Elected President is said to be a check on the (PAP) Government of the day, all 4 Elected Presidents so far are either ex-PAP ministers (Ong Teng Cheong, Tony Tan, Halimah Yacob, presuming she wins in September), or from the Government’s ranks (SR Nathan).

    Coincidence? Or #OwnselfCheckOwnself taken to its shameless extreme?”

    Veteran Radio Personality Hamish Brown Questions Halimah Yacob’s Independence To Be Elected President

    Prominent radio personality Hamish Brown has questioned if Presidential hopeful Halimah Yacob is as indeed independently-minded as she has claimed in a newspaper interview. In an interview with The New Paper Madam Halimah illustrated an incident where she abstained from voting on an issue after the Whip was listed, to make a point that she not always followed the directions of her political party elders in the People’s Action Party.

    “An occasion she remembered clearly was when she abstained from voting on amendments to the Human Organ Transplant Act in Parliament in 2007. Changes tabled by then Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan would allow organ recipients to reimburse donors’ expenses if they wished. She was concerned that this would lead to poor people being persuaded to “sell” their organs. The party whip was lifted, and she abstained, sending a strong signal of her misgivings.  She recalled: “I decided not to say yes. I didn’t ask the Health Minister how he felt, but I can still remember the expression on his face.””

    Writing in his Facebook Mr Brown said, abstaining from voting doesn’t send a signal that she agrees or disagrees. That Madam Halimah’s decision only showed that her position was a non-committal one.

    “…but abstaining from voting during the Human Organ Transplant Act parliamentary sitting doesn’t show that you do not toe with the party line, it only shows that between standing with voters who agree and voters who don’t, your action was neither, rather your decided course of action was to abstain from voting altogether, an act that really means, I prefer not to stand for either option and just be a fence sitter (so if the proverbial s@&/,! Hit the fan, you would go on record as not having been party to it either way) that’s what abstaining from taking a stand or voting means.”

    Mr Brown further suggested that meritocracy as it is practiced in Singapore, went out the window as soon as this presidential election was reserved for one particular ethnic race over all others.

    Leave Halimah Yacob’s Issue Aside And You Realise Singaporeans Are The Ones Taken For A Ride

    Halimah Yacob finally confirmed PAP’s scheme to install her as their choice of “Elected President” by announcing her intentions to run for the election yesterday .

    As early as February this year, the PAP had already unintentionally divulged its plan through Chan Chun Sing’s faux pas in Parliament during his speech on the revised EP.

    So why didn’t Halimah Yacob just come clean on this instead of pretending to be mull over whether to contest?

    The announcement was not even unexpected yet that did not stop many from rolling their eyes in bewilderment. Truely a “bittersweet” moment.

    Since everything has already been carefully planned for from the beginning, why still the need for her to wayang so much to the people?

    In the end, it is the government and the ministers who are ultimately taking us Singaporeans for a ride.

    Gilbert Goh: This Is How You Can Spoil Your Votes

    This is one way to spoil your vote in protest against the manipulated Reserved Presidential Election.

    You can also draw on the voting slip or mark two or more crosses on the boxes depending on the number of candidates.

    You can of course vote against the PAP-approved candidate by voting for the other contestants.

    In case of a walk-over, Singaporeans will have no chance to cast any spoil votes.

    Note that it is not an offence to spoil your vote in any election here. There is an average of 2 to 2.5% of spoilt rejected votes in our previous general elections.

    The previous PE has attracted a 1.7% spoilt votes out of a total of 2.1 million eligible voters.

    But if you don’t turn up in any election to vote which is compulsory, the Election Department can debar you from voting in the next GE in 2020. Subsequently, you may need to reapply to be placed in the electorate list for the next election to vote.

    Join a group of concerned Singaporeans to participate in a legitimate protest against the coming PE in September by spoiling your vote. The high percentage of spoilt votes will embarrass the government and more importantly show that Singaporeans have rise up as a loud voice in protest against the coming PE.

    This will be the first time that Singaporeans have commit themselves amass as a united voice to protest against this racist PE where none of the three candidates so far are Malays.

    Damanhuri Abas: PAP No Champion Of Racial Equality, Malays Marginalised

    This is another ugly truth of how labels are conveniently thrown by them at persons to distract from the issue of contention.

    They are no champion of racial equality. For if they were, there would be no discriminatory practises of excluding the Malays from so-called sensitive positions in the SAF for the last 5 decades sowing the poison of distrust into the minds of Singaporeans towards the entire race, the Malay schools would not have closed down, the Madrasah would have stop ‘begging’ long time ago for a decent premise to educate our children while SAP schools are showered with endless tax-payers money, or would the Malays be systematically marginalised in so many other ways in society. Instead, race have been abused by the PAP to institutionalise deceptive mechanism such as the GRC to their political advantage. And now the EP.

    The fact that after more than 50 years of PAP led Malay leadership in government, the Malays are still behind in education, over represented in drug abused cases, prison inmates, delinquents, divorce, low income, etc., etc., are a damning indictment of the failures of the chosen PAP Malay leadership. The reserved EP is neither our community’s priority, need nor want for a show-puppet Malay President. Its a disgrace.

    We have seen few days ago what parliament has become when 1 party rules and now the last bastion of the people’s defence will simply become another tool of the PAP.

    Come on Singaporeans, lets take back our country from the current double tongue bunch of financially bloated elites that knows no shame oozing out their hypocrisy and taking the entire nation for their joy ride.
