Filipino PR And Full-Time NSman Sent To Reformative Training For Sex With Underage Girls

A full-time national serviceman who had sex with a girl under 16 years old while on probation for similar offences was sentenced to reformative training on Monday.

Gil Dominic Barbosa Rojas, 20, a Singapore permanent resident, had admitted to two counts of having sex with a 15-year-old girl on April 1 and 8 this year, and with a 13-year-old girl sometime between January and February last year.

A Community Court heard last month that Rojas, a Filipino, came to know the 15-year-old girl on Facebook in June last year. They exchanged contact numbers and started to communicate over the phone.

They eventually met at his home at Anchorvale Road on April 1. He asked her to be his girlfriend, to which she agreed.

They had consensual and unprotected sex in his bedroom.

A week later, she did not go to school and instead, met Rojas at his home. They had sex again.

The victim’s mother was checking her Facebook account when she saw Rojas’ messages to her and began questioning her. The victim then admitted that she had sex with Rojas.

The mother lodged a police report on April 15.

Further investigation showed that Rojas and the second victim, then 13, befriended each other through a WhatsApp group chat. They entered into a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship the same month.

Subsequently, he brought her to his home, where he had unprotected sex with her. He was then 18.

Rojas was placed on 24 months’ split probation in October last year after pleading guilty to three underage sex offences and one of committing an indecent act.

For the latest cases, a progress report stated that Rojas lacked remorse, has a high risk of offending, and requires supervision in a closed and structured environment.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Krystle Chiang said Rojas had justified his offences by saying the victims told him they were of legal age, that is, 16 years.

District Judge Lim Keng Yeow said despite having faced 16 charges previously and placed on probation, it was clear from Rojas’ conduct that he was not suitable for probation but needed a different form of rehabilitation. He sentenced him to a stint in the Reformative Training Centre (RTC).

Those serving time in RTC stay between 18 months and three years behind bars, and undergo a strict regimen that includes foot drills and counselling.

  • Spoiled Girl Mistakes Malay Lady At Library For Indon Maid

Spoiled Girl Mistakes Malay Lady At Library For Indon Maid

Netizen Faizah Zakaria shared a bad experience she had at the library when a spoiled child treated her as if she was a maid just because of her skin colour. This is not the way for a child to behave towards our Malay Singaporean brothers and sisters.. The parents should educate the child not to treat others like slaves. Let’s share her story and condemn discrimination.

“I was sitting in the children’s section of the library reading a book to my (Chinese-looking) nephew when a little Chinese girl interrupted us. “Excuse me,” she said imperiously. I looked up. “Here,” she said pushing a plastic wrapping into my hands. Then she walked off without another word to join her mother who was texting busily a few steps away.

I was quite stunned to realize that she expected me to throw away her rubbish for her. Okay, maybe she had not meant to be offensive and thought I look like an Indonesian maid or something. Still, when is it ever acceptable to zero in on the only brown-skinned person in the library (excluding the officers) and expect her to take care of the trash? Even if I were a maid, that doesn’t give some random kid a right to do so, especially when the rubbish bin is a only a few steps away. It is not okay to expect strangers to pick up after you whether they are Chinese, Malay, Indonesian, Filipino, Indian or Martian.

Have a happy racial harmony day tomorrow, Singapore. We have some way to go.”

  • Maid Sentenced To Two Weeks Jail For Fracturing Baby’s Elbow

Maid Sentenced To Two Weeks Jail For Fracturing Baby’s Elbow

A maid was sentenced to two weeks’ jail after she caused a fracture on the right elbow of her employer’s seven-month-old daughter in February by yanking on the baby’s arm.

Valencia Gemalyn Garma, 24, a Filipina, had been employed to do general house cleaning and look after her employer’s two children.

The court heard that on Feb 21, at about 1.30am, Garma, who had been working for the family for seven months, had settled down to sleep with the baby when the child began crying.

She said she had not managed to fall asleep and was agitated and tired after having had to care for her employer’s older child, who is two years old. She picked up the baby in an attempt to pacify her, carrying her on her right arm.

Later, she transferred the baby to her chest by forcefully pulling at the baby’s right arm. When the baby continued crying for 10 minutes, Garma suspected that she had hurt the baby, but she did not inform her employer out of fear.

The employer was awakened by the baby’s cries and took over, telling Garma to go to sleep.

But when her daughter continued to cry for half an hour before falling asleep, and woke up crying again at 3am, she became concerned that the baby might be in pain. Examinations by doctors at Thomson Medical Centre and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital revealed that the child had suffered a fracture to her right elbow.

When questioned by her employer, Garma initially denied any involvement but later admitted to hurting the child.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Fong Jin Heng submitted that Garma’s failure to inform her employer of the possible injury significantly delayed the baby’s mother from seeking necessary medical attention.

District Judge Toh Yung Cheong took into account the fact that Garma had not had prior experience in caring for children and her tired state at the time of the negligent act, and ordered a sentence of two weeks’ jail.

For causing grievous hurt by a negligent act, Garma could have been jailed up to six months and fined up to $2,500.

  • Filipino Zero-Point Diver Retort On Comments

Filipino Zero-Point Diver Retort On Comments

A Filipino diver who became a laughing stock online after a video of his failed dive went viral, has come back with a retort worthy of a perfect 10.

Local humour site SGAG uploaded a clip of John David Pahoyo’s botched attempt in the men’s 3m springboard event on Facebook late on Wednesday night, which has racked up more than 1.1 million views and over 10,000 likes in just under a day.

Among those who found the post funny was none other than Pahoyo himself. But more than just being able to laugh about it, the 17-year-old said that it was important to not only laugh at yourself, but also pick oneself up and try and try again.

Friends do not let friends do silly things alone… in this case getting ZERO POINTS for Diving at SEA GAMES 2015!…

Posted by SGAG on Wednesday, June 10, 2015

In a reply to the SGAG video posted in the comments section that drew close to 4,000 likes, he said: “I even laughed at myself after I did this dive hehe.

“But after all this was not the first time I failed a dive, and I was not the first one who did so. And I am still proud because not all of us has the privilege to represent our own country to such a big sporting event like this. And by the way can I ask all of you if you can still smile after getting embarrassed in front of thousands of people?”

The 17-year-old also posted a video of him and compatriot John Elmerson Fabriga executing a successful dive in the men’s synchronised 3m springboard on his own Facebook page, with the caption “Why share our failed dives when you can share the dives that we did well?”

Yey! I’m so proud of us pakner John Fabriga, we really did our best despite of we just practiced this synchro dives for just 4 days, even though we failed to win, but atleast we did overcame what we once knew was out limit, and that makes us a champion <3 Thanks coach Brian Palattao for your endless support and immeasurable love to us from the preparation until the end of this competition, and special thanks to the people who’s doing their best to make this experience possible, I owe you all of this 🙂 #SG2015 #SEA #Games #Singapore #Diving #Pilipinas

Posted by JD Pahoyo on Tuesday, June 9, 2015

SGAG’s 82-second video starts off with Fabriga attempting his fourth dive on the 3m springboard at the OCBC Aquatic Centre on June 6, which ends in embarrassing fashion after he landed on his back with a huge splash.

Fabriga is then followed by Pahoyo, who emulates his good friend and partner by executing a near-exact copy of the failed dive.

Both received a zero for their attempts. They eventually finished the event in the last two positions after six dives.

The majority of netizens who saw the post poked fun at both men, although a vocal minority defended them.

The duo, however, could be in trouble for their poor performances, with Philippine Sport Commission chairman Richie Garcia reportedly seeking an explanation from the country’s aquatics chief Mark Joseph.

“I will give the opportunity for the Philippine Swimming Inc. president to explain because he fought for these divers to come here and compete,” Garcia told Filipino website Inquirer.net.

He also questioned if they did it on purpose.

AFP reported that there were poor showings as well from competitors in the women’s 10m platform event, as several landed awkwardly in the water despite choosing to dive from lower heights. Competitors had the option to jump from either 7.5m or 5m as well, although that meant that they earned fewer points.
