Halal Nasi Padang Stall Ran Out of Sambal, PRC Server Tried To Give Me Sambal From Non-Halal Stall

Do you know what Halal Food means?

Had a rude awakening this morning around 11.15am at Nasi Padang Stall in Seletar Mall Food Court.

Mimi Ab Hamid Complaint On Halal Nasi Padang Stall

I refused the food, and ask for my money back, which I got it back eventually!

I straight to the Food Manager to complain and got him to teach that Miss Foreign Talent Server how sensitive it is in handling Halal Food.

It seems that our Foreign Talents here in Sg need to be taught some lessons about what Halal Food means!

  • Fed-Up With Malay-Muslim Personalities Drinking Alcohol To Fit In Non-Muslims’ Networking And Celebratory Events

Fed-Up With Malay-Muslim Personalities Drinking Alcohol To Fit In Non-Muslims’ Networking And Celebratory Events

I was at a celebratory event a couple of days ago and the waiters were offering wine. ‘oh I don’t drink alcohol’ – a simple reply that I’ve said time and time again but this time, I hear a new acquaintance pip in ‘oh not just a little? but (insert name of successful Malay person) does!’.

this is why I’m disappointed with us. Not the ignorant friend I had just made – us, the Malay Muslim community.

alcohol is almost always associated with celebrations and networking. I know this because for most of my career, I’ve been offered it and I’ve had to spend quite a bit of time explaining the reason why I don’t drink – I’m a Muslim and the Quran forbids it’s consumption.

In the Qur’an Surat Al-Baqarah [2:219] it says “They ask thee concerning wine and gambling. Say: ‘In them is great sin, and some profit, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit.’”

this is why I get disappointed in the success of Malay Muslim professionals/success stories who choose to drink. I do not applaud their success because you are one more person who is saying ‘it’s okay, I’ll bend the rules so that I can succeed’ and that sucks. it paints a picture of me (not successful yet but working towards it) being inflexible when really, there is no room for flexibility in this matter – it’s a great sin. not a small one, a great one.

I’m sure there are many success stories of people who have achieved their amazing careers without ‘bending the rules’ and I want to meet these people. i want these people to be applauded and to be identified as role models. I want the future business/accountancy/law/whatever other fields that require networking graduates to know that it’s possible – to be successful in your career while not having to compromise on your beliefs.

  • Singapore Chinese Muslim Stunned By Halal Dietary Question In Job Application

Singapore Chinese Muslim Stunned By Halal Dietary Question In Job Application

    “You don’t eat pork, right?”

Singapore Chinese Muslim Heidi Heng was shocked when she was asked the question when she tried to find out more about an opening for an administration position.

At first, she said, she was mistaken for being a non-Chinese because she was seen wearing a headscarf. Then, she was told that her Halal diet would be an inconvenience to other employees especially when it comes to company events.

Heng was responding to job application queries sent via Whatsapp messages on her phone when she was confronted by questions that involved her race, religion and dietary option. She was corresponding with someone who appeared to be the human resource staff of an unnamed company.

A screen grab of the conversation was posted on Facebook on Tuesday, and has since garnered more than 1,000 shares and nearly 100 comments.

Facebook screen grab of racist conversation.

The conversation had taken place over Whatsapp when Heng was asking for the appropriate email address to send her resume to. Heng seemed disappointed at how the conversation had panned out, even labeling the comments that the staff member made as “racist”.

“Work is work, food is food. I can eat Halal food, (you) can eat (your) non-Halal food. Just (wanted) a simple admin job, end up get a racist comment… Admin job got event every month meh (sic)?” she said.

Most of the commenters on Facebook have shown support for Heng while criticising the company.

“I don’t see why one’s dietary preference will hinder the productivity of the admin job… what if the candidate is a Chinese vegetarian?” said a Bob M Fauzi.

One commenter even offered Heng a job and is awaiting her reply.

Yahoo Singapore has contacted the Ministry of Manpower for a comment.

  • Masyarakat Melayu-Islam Patut Boycott Cathay Cinemas

Masyarakat Melayu-Islam Patut Boycott Cathay Cinemas

    Admin,

Saya tertanya menagapa Cathay membuat langkah komersil sedemikian? Mungkin jumlah penonton Islam kekurangan.

Kita sama-sama boycott Cathay, walau berat hati nak lakukannya.

  • Cathay Cinemas’ F&B No Longer Halal-Certified

Cathay Cinemas’ F&B No Longer Halal-Certified

    Dear All Singapore Stuff,

I am disgusted to find out that Cathay Cinema is not longer going to be Halal certified from 1 April 2015. A fellow concerned customer write in to Cathay to ask about therumours and it turn out to be true.

Cathay claims that this is because of the introduction of new concept providing greater variety of food and drinks, result in non-renewal of their Halal certificate. This is outrageous! How can Cathay sukasuka just stop being Halal when they have it for so many years? Now Muslims customers can no longer buy Cathay cinema popcorn, hotdogs, nachos. Since you don’t provide Halal food, will you also not allow us to bring our own snacks inside the cinema?

    Like that how now?

A netizen gave a frank view of Cathay’s decision to stop being Halal, do you think what he say is the truth? He said:

“For those who dont understand the [Cathay’s email] reply.. ” Hi there, we wish to tell you we are no longer interested in appeasing the muslim community by providinghalal food. As the muslim community is small, it doesnt make a difference. We will gain more profit by introducing non-halal food items. Then again, those who are stupid enough will still buy our no pork no lard food products. Either way, we stilwin”.”

Is this how Cathay view the business from the Malay community in Singapore? Should we stop patronizing from Cathay and take our business to Golden Village orFilmgarde instead?
