Parents Beware! Stranger At Joo Chiat Complex Threatened To Harm My 3 Year Old Daughter

Please Please Please!!!! Be careful all parents out there!!! This just happened to my biras earlier today.. Do take xtra care of our children..we dont know when and where it might happen again.. #sharingiscaring

On 02/05/17, at about 1400hrs, I was sitting on the bench located at level 2 of Joo Chiat Complex, beside the lift lobby, with two of my children. One of them is my son, Yusuf Abayar, which is 5 months old, and the other is my daughter, Zaada As’isyah, which is 3 years old.

While I was sitting at the bench, I was approached by an unknown male subject. He asked me the gender of my boy. I answered him. He started to mumble to himself whether he should buy raffia string or rope.

He then said that he will buy the rope. After that, he looked at my daughter and said, ‘Aku ikat kaki kau lepas tu tangan kau, aku sumbat mulut kau kasi senyap. I will kill you’. In English, it basically means that “I will tie your hands and legs, I will stuff things in your mouth and I will silence you. I will kill you.’ After that, one of the aunty told me to follow her, in which I did and we walked away from the male subject. He did not follow.

I do not know the male subject and have never seen him before. He is a Male Malay, about 50+ years old wearing Black T-Shirt and Black Jeans, with short curly black hair and he had one eye open and one eye seemingly closed when speaking to me. I was wearing a black dress an light brown flower scarf. I was carrying a baby carrier.

I would like to state that there is a CCTV at the lift lobby area.

  • Pasir Ris Neighbour Disputes Account, Provides Own Version Of Story

Pasir Ris Neighbour Disputes Account, Provides Own Version Of Story

STOMP today published a story of an ongoing dispute between two neighbours in Pasir Ris titled, ‘Who needs enemies… when you have neighbours from hell like these?‘. The article quotes a STOMPER living on the 5th floor of Block 628 Pasir Ris saying she has been terrorised by a family living on the same floor.

The neighbour claimed: “They always shout vulgarities, stand outside the corridor, attack/push/hit their neighbours next door.”

Several readers who responded to STOMP’s video on the dispute in their Facebook, pointed out that the video was very one-sided. Facebook user David Lim, who claimed to be the neighbour  described as ‘from hell’ in the article, also responded to the post to tell his side of the story.

  • 6 Months Imprisonment For Attacker OF Madrasah Students

6 Months Imprisonment For Attacker OF Madrasah Students

A single act of racially aggravated violence wounds the victim, and by extension, the collective interest of society, said a district judge on Friday (May 20) as he sentenced a former security officer to six months’ jail.

Koh Weng Onn, who attacked three madrasah students on April 1 this year, had pleaded guilty to two charges — causing hurt with racial aggravation, as well as committing a rash act causing hurt.

District Judge Mathew Joseph noted that 48-year-old Koh, who suffers from a disorder with delusions of persecution, had made 355 police reports since 2008, many of them against Malay and Indian subjects.

“The racial pattern in these reports poses a risk of the accused getting into similar situations (again),” he said.

According to court documents, Koh started to have a bad impression of Malays several years ago, when he confronted a group for allegedly talking about him, and claimed that they started to hit him until he ran away.

Around 7pm on March 31 this year, Koh was walking towards a coffee shop at East Coast Road when he saw two Malay women cycling towards him. He took a chair and pushed it towards them, sparking a dispute.

A male Malay cyclist, who was behind the women, started having a shoving match with Koh. The police were called, and the parties apologised to each other.

The next day, he was walking towards the MRT station along Paya Lebar Road at around 7.22am, when he passed a 16-year-old student. He suddenly kicked her and swore at her in Hokkien, leaving his victim shocked by the sudden blow.

A minute later, Koh passed a 14-year-old student, and swung a plastic bag containing a filled 1.5-litre bottle towards the side of her face.

As he entered Paya Lebar MRT Station and rode the escalator down, he saw a group of girls riding the escalator in the opposite direction.

Koh waited till all of them, except the last girl, had passed him, before swinging his plastic bag at the 14-year-old’s face.

Koh later defended himself, saying that the sight of the three girls, all students of Madrasah Al-Maarif Al-Islamiah, reminded him of the encounter with the cyclists, and thus angered him.

Calling for a sentence of six months’ jail, Deputy Public Prosecutor Ang Feng Qian noted that Koh had confessed that he committed the offences because the victims were Malay. He also chose the girls specifically because they were young and female, to reduce the chances of retaliation and reprisal, she added.

Defence lawyer Sunil Sudheesan, who pleaded for a jail term of three months, said Koh’s delusions had contributed to his offences.

Mr Sunil added that the fact that an anonymous entrepreneur from an Arab-Muslim family had stepped forward to seek legal help for Koh and offered to foot his bills showed that Singaporeans are not “short-sighted”.

Mr Sunil said: “They know the difference between someone who is a racist and a bigot, and someone who has (a) mental illness.”

District Judge Joseph noted that Koh’s family had apologised on his behalf previously. “In a world (divided) by sectarian strife, the exhortation to love your neighbour becomes exceedingly crucial. And it’s all the more important for a nation like Singapore,” the judge said.

Koh’s older brother, Mr Muhammad Johan Koh, told TODAY that the family accepted the sentence, adding: “He knew he committed an offence and needs to face the consequences. After serving his sentence, he will resume his treatment at the Institute of Mental Health. We will get the help we need to get him better.”

  • Woman Arrested After Stand-Off At Tampines Giant Hypermarket

Woman Arrested After Stand-Off At Tampines Giant Hypermarket

A woman created a ruckus by climbing onto the checkout counter at Tampines Giant Hypermarket on Monday, sparking an hour’s stand-off before she was arrested.

Businessman Dennis Tay, 53, who was shopping there with his wife, said:  “She was screaming and calling for help and said that someone wanted to kill her. She also shouted for someone to call the police.”

The woman, who looked to be in her late 20s, stood on the counter for almost an hour shouting and screaming. Her actions attracted a crowd of more than 20 curious onlookers.

A 22-year-old salesgirl who gave her name only as Miss Koh said: “Her friend had chased her from inside (the supermarket) and shouted for someone to stop her from running away. I think a customer tried to stop the woman and that’s when she climbed up on the counter.”

This reporter saw the woman drinking from a green tea bottle as she stood on the counter. Between bouts of screaming, she seemed calm and busied herself with her mobile phone. But she became agitated when anyone approached her.

According to Mr Tay and other witnesses, the woman spat her drink at security guards who had tried to coax her off the counter.

About seven of her colleagues from semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries arrived almost 30 minutes into the stand-off and said they were concerned for her well-being. They said they did not know what had happened earlier and declined to comment further.

The police said they received a call for public assistance at 1.28pm. A 24-year-old woman was later arrested under the Mental Health Act.

  • Amos Yee Given 4 Weeks Backdated Jail Sentence

Amos Yee Given 4 Weeks Backdated Jail Sentence

Teen blogger Amos Yee Pang Sang was on Monday (Jul 6) sentenced to four weeks’ jail, backdated to Jun 2.

Yee was found guilty of two charges – one for making offensive or wounding remarks against Christianity and another for circulating obscene imagery. A third charge, for the teen blogger’s statements on the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew in a YouTube video, was withdrawn.

Yee intends to appeal against the conviction, said his lawyer Alfred Dodwell.

“The journey here has been long and arduous, ridden with lots of obstacles and hurdles. We have somehow gotten here,” said Mr Dodwell. “We have confirmed with our client that he wants to appeal against the conviction.”

“Let’s not run away with the idea that just because he’s remorseful and stuff, that is in relation to the social context. Whether this was a crime or not, still remains a question we want to determine in High Court,” Mr Dodwell added.

The 16-year-old has been remanded at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for the past two weeks to assess his suitability for a mandatory treatment order, after a doctor said that Yee may have autism-spectrum disorder.

Mr Dodwell on Sunday night confirmed reports that the blogger was in hospital. Yee has “not been eating well, perhaps loss of appetite or no appetite, understandably so and hence his blood sugar went down,” he said.

“I’ve not been told of a hunger strike,” added Mr Dodwell, referring to the blogger’s hospitalisation.

Yee had previously rejected the option of probation and a term in the Reformative Training Centre as a sentence, sticking to his original plea for a jail term
