  • Anti And Pro LGBT Activists Can Co-Exist In Singapore

Anti And Pro LGBT Activists Can Co-Exist In Singapore

So gay activists are not very happy about IKEA’s decision to continue promoting Pastor Lawrence Khong’s magic. They are throwing tantrums like pampered kids in an indoor playground, because their parents can afford $20 for them to get out of the sun. I agree with IKEA’s decision, because what do you expect Pastor Lawrence Khong to be?

He’s a Christian pastor and the bible explicitly frowns upon gay/lesbian relationship. He is merely doing his duty as a soldier of God to warn his flock and others (whoever wants to listen) about the dangers of same-sex relationship according to the Bible. The pastor even has gay dancers in his magic show but I am sure he has quiet word with them, urging them to stop doing it the wrong way.

We even have a prominent gay Muslim playright/author/poet lecturing IKEA how to conduct their business, like as if he has ran a big MNC himself. He even tells IKEA not to get involve with “contentious and controversial” people like Lawrence Khong. Pot calling the kettle black I would say, because that term isn’t far off when used to describe the very person who wrote it. Don’t get me wrong. As a Muslim, I am not a fan of Lawrence Khong. He can be quite an attention-seeker with his leather gear and annoying self-righteous statements. If you remember, he even tried to sack a heavily pregnant FCBC staff and refuse her fair compensation because the baby was borne out of an extra-marital affair. Most of all, I am definitely not a fan of prosperity gospel and their proselytizing methods because one does not simply join a religion to get rich.

But, at the same time I do not violently reject Lawrence Khong, nor do I try to block his every initiative online by trying a fit on social media, because he is free to carry out his activities within certain rules of our democratic society. If one day, IKEA was to promote a musical or a play written by a gay/lesbian, should the conservative Christians likewise attack them on social media? Let’s be more mature, civil and not resort to cyber militancy. Lawrence Khong and the gay activists can both co-exist in Singapore. They should both have the space to espouse their ideas. If you don’t agree with any of them, it wouldn’t hurt if you would just turn away.

  • IKEA Singapore To Continue Support For Magic Show By Pastor Lawrence Khong

IKEA Singapore To Continue Support For Magic Show By Pastor Lawrence Khong

Furniture retailer Ikea Singapore will not pull out of a tie-up that offers members of its loyalty programme discounted rates for a show that features a pastor known for his views against homosexuality.

The decision to continue the promotion comes after a thorough review, said the company in a statement on Tuesday.

It said: “We have spoken directly with the organizers, reviewed the content and confirmed that the Vision show offers high family entertainment value and, on that basis, we are continuing our promotional collaboration.”

Vision, a magic show performed by pastor Lawrence Khong of Faith Community Baptist Church and his daughter Priscilla, will be held at the Esplanade in July.

In its statement, Ikea Singapore added that it respects the diversity and equality of all people in the community.

“We also respect that all individuals have a right to their opinions and personal choices, including the freedom to choose their preferred entertainment,” it said.

The company thanked customers for their patience as the company deliberated over an issue that had “raised sensitivities in our community”.

Mr Khong is known for his strong views against homosexuals. Last year, he pledged support for a campaign to “wear white” in protest of the LGBT picnic Pink Dot.

His church did not respond to queries.

  • Come Aboard The Gay Love Boat In Singapore

Come Aboard The Gay Love Boat In Singapore

    Dear TRS,

I don’t want to be homophobic or anything but I wish highlight a major hypocrisy in our system.

I read that there is a Gay Cruise which will berth at Marina Bay Cruise Centre in April:

Gay Cruise from Singapore to HK, coming Singapore April 2015

    http://atlantisevents.com/Singapore-to-Hong-Kong-Cruise/40#overview

    March 29 – April 9, 2015
    Singapore to Hong Kong Cruise
    Celebrity Millennium

This is outrageous, Singapore welcomes World largest Gay Cruise to Marina Bay Centre Cruises.

The Penal Code 377A is against man to man sex, anal etc, yet we allow such a gay cruiseship to be berth in Singapore, and welcome 2000+ gays to visit and transit in Singapore.

The government has repeatedly explained that they are not ready to repeal s377A despite a lot of support and a growing Pink Dot community.

However, when commercial benefits are involved, such as in this cruise, they openly welcome thousands of people into Singapore even though they are likely to be breaking the law that the government refuses to repeal.

If the government is saying that there are cultural issues and Singapore is conservative, that’s why we need 377A, how can we welcome such a huge group of people to come here who may conflict with that culture?

Is it just for monetary gains, the govt allows such cruise chip to come via Marina Bay Cruise Centre.

This isn’t really a debate about s377A but the hypocrisy is outstanding.

  • Malaysian Engineer Convicted Of Sexual Offences Against 31 Boys In Singapore

Malaysian Engineer Convicted Of Sexual Offences Against 31 Boys In Singapore

A 31-year-old Malaysian engineer has pleaded guilty to preying on 31 boys, aged between 11 and 15, over a three-year period, the Singapore’s Straits Times reported on Friday.

Yap Weng Wah was reported to have befriended the boys on Facebook and used a number of different accounts to strike up friendship with them.

Yap pleaded guilty to 12 charges of sexual penetration of a minor, the daily said. He faces another 64 charges of sexual offences.

He managed to persuade 30 boys to have sex with him in his rented apartment, toilet cubicles in shopping centres and swimming complexes, hotel rooms and a public park between November 2009 and June 2012.

He also recorded the sexual encounters on his mobile phone and compiled details, such as each boy’s name, age and year of meeting, in his laptop.

Police found about 2,000 video clips in the laptop, the paper said.

Yap was arrested in 2012 after one of the boys lodged a police report stating he had been sexually penetrated.

But many of the boys continued to meet Yap after their first sexual act because he had become a “friend” or they feared being blackmailed.

The case was adjourned on Friday and his sentence to be decided on a later date. Prosecutors are seeking at least 30 years’ jail and 24 strokes of the rotan.

Yap moved to Singapore in 2009 and he reportedly tearfully addressed the judge, expressing remorse for his deeds and apologising to his victims and their families.

  • Open Letter To MOE: Cease Hiring Of Male Gay Teachers

Open Letter To MOE: Cease Hiring Of Male Gay Teachers

    Dear Sir & Madam,

I am disappointed to know that another gay male teacher was charged in court recently. He was accused of molesting two boys aged 13 and 14 in his flat . After the Straits Times broke the news, social media users investigated and managed to uncover that he was a Head of Department of a primary school when those hideous acts were committed. Photos of him were posted on the internet [1].

Clarence Hoe King Chuan was not the first gay teacher to be formally charged for his devious acts. Earlier in December, Chock Soon Seng, a 37 year old male former primary school teacher was sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a 14 year old boy and threatened to circulate his nude photos online [2]. In the same month, another 34 year old male teacher in a primary school molested a 12 year old boy who is under his care as a CCA teacher & discipline master [3].

In July this year, a male Junior College teacher was convicted for underage sex with a 14 year old boy he met on the internet [4].

Besides recent cases, a 33 year old gay male teacher in primary school molested and kissed 4 boys between the age of 10 and 12 years old last year November [5]. That same year, a 33 year old gay teacher had molested a 13 year old boy in a condominium swimming pool shower cubicle [6].

In March 2012, another gay 38 year old primary school was sent to prison for jailed for 10 years for sexually violating two boys, one of them was only 8 years old [7].

The examples I have listed above are certainly not exhaustive. I firmly believe that most of our teachers who entered the profession have regarded teaching as a noble case but I fear there is a small group of teachers who became teachers to satisfy their own immoral desires.

Does MOE and her respective schools have any safeguards to ensure that our school grounds do not become a hunting ground for these sexual predators?

I hope our Education Minister Mr Heng Swee Keat has not turned a blind eye to these incidents and I hope he can set a proper directive and address this issue before parents lose trust in our educational institutions.
