    Residents Should Be Tolerant Of Activities At Home United Youth Academy, Help Nurture Sporting Talents

    Earlier we read how void decks were restructured to make it impossible for our kids to play anything there, especially football.

    Why?

    Because residents complained.

    Now…even when our kids play in the field, complains flood the authorities.

    We are not sure if the small minority who keep on complaining represents the silent majority, or simply the small minority is bullying the sports and the relevant authorities….

    Whatever the case, it’s sad to see how some Singaporeans have become less communal, less tolerant and more individualistic.

    The kind of intolerance demonstrated in this particular instance is simply intolerable if we want to see a more vibrant sporting scene in Singapore, or simply if we want to see our kids have a good weekend at sports or simply for them to have a good, clean and healthy fun with neighbours and friends.

    Even though the Home United Youth Academy is a business entity, it is running a cause for the national sports interests – football. If this level of intolerance and bullying continues, we can forget about seeing the return of the likes of Fandi Ahmad and his generation of foodballers in Singapore. It’s as good as dead.

    Mohd Khair: Tiada Masjid Yang Sengaja Tidak Hulurkan Bantuan, Bukan Senang Bantu Orang Kurang Senang

    Saya faham sangat apa yang diluahkan oleh Zuwainah ‘Illiyyin Nursuci ini.

    Dan bagi sesiapa yang sudah biasa turun padang dan bergelumang dengan isu-isu seperti ini, akan dapat merasakan cabaran yang dihadapi oleh pegawai masjid ini.

    Bukan senang…

    Bukan senang membantu orang-orang dari golongan yang bukan senang. Adakala, sesetengah orang yang sudah dibantu begitu bijak mencanai cerita-cerita sedih untuk mensensasikan keadaan sehingga sanggup menabur fitnah ke atas masjid dan pegawai masjid yang sudah pun membantu. Dan ada sebahagian juga yang sudah pun mempunyai rangkaian atau network yang baik untuk mengetahui lubuk-lubuk bantuan yang terdapat di sekitaran. Dengan rangkaian ini, mereka berjaya mendapatkan bantuan-bantuan dari pihak-pihak pertubuhan Islam yang lain.

    Secara peribadi, saya sendiri tahu wujudnya keluarga-keluarga yang hidup dengan cara mendapatkan bantuan dari pihak-pihak pertubuhan Islam, termasuk masjid, secara berangkai….dari datuk-nenek sehinggalah ke peringkat cucu cicit. Apabila ditanya, mereka kata bantuan yang mereka terima secara total cukup untuk membiayai keperluan keluarga setiap bulan dan tidak perlu bekerja.

    Dan jangan kata pertubuhan Islam, termasuk masjid-masjid, tidak payung. Pelbagai jenis bantuan sudah dihulurkan untuk mereka-mereka yang berupaya untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan agar mereka bekerja. Namun, yang empunya badan enggan merebut peluang-peluang yang diletakkan di dalam tangan mereka. Mereka ini melepaskan peluang-peluang itu begitu sahaja. NAK SALAHKAN SIAPA?

    Namun, memang ada juga genuine cases di mana mereka memang benar-benar memerlukan bantuan secara tetap setiap bulan kerana keadaan keluarga yang tidak stabil di atas pelbagai sebab seperti kesihatan dan kecacatan.

    Dan bagi kita yang setakat hanya terserempak atau terdengar akan cerita-cerita seperti ini, perlu berhati-hati sebelum menjatuhkan “hukuman” terhadap masjid-masjid, pertubuhan-pertubuhan Islam dan pegawai-pegawai yang bertugas.

    Bukan senang punya kerja…

    Namun, berdasarkan pengalaman peribadi, saya yakin bahawa tidak ada masjid atau pertubuhan Islam yang secara sengaja tidak mahu menghulurkan bantuan kepada mereka-mereka yang memerlukan.

    TIDAK ADA.

    Yang ada, adalah sebahagian manusia yang “abused the system” demi kepentingan peribadi.

    Mohd Khair: PAP Should Commission Independent Study Of GE Results

    Congratulations to All Parties, Candidates and the Population of Singapore who took part in GE2015. It’s an important democratic process that affords the country to check itself periodically, whatever outcome it may be.

    On the night when results were annouced, it was evident that the outcome came as a surprise even with the ruling party PAP. The commentators on live TV were also surprised of the margins and eventual swing. The mandate was clear. Almost 70% of voters wanted PAP to be back in power. However, what drove the swing that resulted in the landslide victory was still speculative, at best.

    That night during the Press Conference, when Dr Yaacob spoke of a solid Malay support, we were not sure where the source of that information came from, given that voting was suppose to be secret. Was the swing a result of solid Malay support or was it due to other factors. The commentators on Channel 5 tentatively attributed the swing to other non-racial factors. And we can all agree with a suggestion by a TV panelist that night that a more thorough study was needed to understand the voting pattern in GE 2015.

    There were also mentions by the panelists on how the victory speeches by the PAP were different. Probably many could also observe that the victory speeches this time sounded more humble. There were relatively more humility than ever before. And there were also not a few of the victory speeches which touched on the need to appeal more to those who had not voted for the PAP. Those speeches made promises to work harder not only for those who voted for the PAP, but also to attract or appeal more to those who did not vote for the party.

    That night, while the PAP and its supporters were in for a pleasant surprise, there were quarters among the voters who were quite perplexed by the results. Leaders of the Opposition parties were also shocked with the results. Kenneth Jeyaratnam was clearly dejected. Other Opposition leaders expressed similar sentiments and said they needed time to fully understand the underlying reasons for the outcome.

    With a solid mandate for the PAP amidst strong showing of support for the Opposition at rallies as well as on social media, and the promise to work harder by the ruling PAP, probably it is not too much to ask for an independent study to be done to understand the underlying factors that contributed to the landslide victory.

    As voting is secret, we are still unsure if the landslide victory was a result of solid Malay voters’ support, as mentioned by Dr Yaacob that night, or could it be due to other reasons. Given the high decibel levels on long-standing issues like the tudung or hijab controversy, it is important for the ruling party to fully understand if there are the possibilities of a relatively larger proportion of the Malay voters actuallly voted for the Opposition.

    The question to ask and answers to uncover is, “Could there be a possibility that the slightly more than 30% who voted for the Opposition comprised a relatively larger number of Malays?”, given the fact that many Malays were unhappy with the way the tudung issue had been handled and dragged on for more than 20 years. Of course, there are other issues that Singaporeans in general have made known of their unhappiness about, and yet voted for the PAP.

    With all the humility demonstrated during the election victory speeches that night, commissioning an independent study to understand what actually happened on Sep 11, 2015 will be a noble act on the part of the PAP to not simply gloss over the victory as one resulting from its prowess to govern. This study, if conducted well and independently, will enable the PAP to better understand the polity and put to rest all the speculations that have been circulating to discredit the victory as only technical, and not substantive. But more importantly, the results of such study will help the PAP to deliver better all its promises to those who voted for it and to those who did not vote for the party. That independent study is for the PAP to keep its promises made during the victory speeches that monumentous night.

    Mohd Khair: Homosexuality Has Never Been Part Of Human Nature

    Words pertaining to human lives have specific and special meaning.

    Eat: chewing and swallowing non-liquid EDIBLE stuff
    Drink: sipping and swallowing liquid EDIBLE stuff

    Normal human beings don’t use their mouths to chew and swallow inedible stuff like stones, wood, plastic and all other inedible stuff. We don’t call this act as eating. I don’t know what to call it because human beings don’t eat stones, woods and plastic to live. If they do, probably ravage would be a word that can be considered and definitely that act cannot be said to be an act of eating.

    Likewise, normal human beings don’t use their mouths to sip petrol, diesel, acids and all other inedible liquids, including poisons unless they are committing suicide.

    Likewise for marriage.

    Marriage is a word to describe a union, officiated by an appointed authority, between a man and a woman. A union between a man and a man, or between a woman and another woman, cannot be called marriage.

    The human anatomy itself has been created, and has been there since time immemorial to support one of the objects of marriage, and that is to procreate to ensure preservation of the human race. The sexual organs of both males and females play complementing and completing roles in procreation. This is a scientific fact, and not an opinion.

    For those who believe in the theory of evolution, probably some pertinent questions to ask would be these:
    If indeed homosexuality has been part of human living,
    1. “how come the anus has not evolved into an organ that can readily receive the insertion of the penis with ease, without any ill effects as currently reported by the medical fraternity?”
    2. “how come the female genitals have not evolved to include a penile-like organ?”

    Isn’t it so clear as day and night that even the theory of evolution cannot be applied to homosexuality. The human body has not adapted itself to include homosexual behaviour.

    Simply put, homosexuality, LGBTQ whatever included, has never been an acceptable lifestyle choice. It’s a behaviour chosen by those who simply want to defy nature – what men and women are supposed to do to love, marry, procreate and prosper on Earth.

    There has been no civilisation in recorded history that made homosexuality mainstream except those that were met with destruction.
    Homosexuality is a just a lifestyle choice. It is a chosen behaviour. It is not part of human nature.

    Human beings eat and drink edible stuff to live and prosper. No human being in the right frame of mind will take inedible stuff as his or her diet. The consequences are as clear as day and night.

    Likewise, marriage among humans means an official union between a man and a woman to ensure the continuity of the human race. It is as clear as day and night what the consequences will be when the institution of marriage is skewed way out of proportion to also include same-gender union. Even an unofficial union between a man and a woman is NOT called marriage. One way, it’s called cohabitation. But the LGBTs, unabashed, called their union marriage…isn’t that shameful?
