    🇸🇬SINGAPORE MALAY PRESIDENT DILEMMA

    In Malaysia it was very clear that most Indian Muslims and all others Muslims minority wanted to blend with the Malay masses and to be recognized as Malay so as to benefit the bumiputra status.

    It was encouraged by the Malaysian government as it has benefited both parties but it cannot be the same with Singapore after the separation with Malaysia.

    Singapore government has always wanted to segregate other Muslims minorities and ethnicities from being grouped and counted as Malays.

    Since Malays in Singapore were weak economically, politically and position so it’s is not an issue for them and in fact they themselves wanted to be distinct and separated and they were always proud of their own heritage, language and culture.

    Now that Elected President is reserved for Malays, they suddenly wanted to count themselves as Malays which made most Singaporean Malays felt amused and reserved.

    I think that’s the perception that has to be corrected and Singapore government must have clear definitions what constitute to be a Malay in multi racial Singapore.

    They just cannot become a Malay selectively.

    1. No signs of preparation for the election

    Knowing that the PE2017 would involve the whole nation to be at the voting booths, it is very unlikely that the government will mobilize its civil service officers at a short notice without any prior briefing. Has there been any information from sources in the civil service about blocking of leaves?

    2. PAP candidate might lose if there is a straight contest between candidates

    Therefore there is a high possibility that the two non-PAP candidates Salleh Marican and Farid Khan will be disqualified by the Election Department, making this upcoming reserved election for Malays a walkover victory for Halimah Yacob who is walking into Istana with her status as former Speaker of Parliament, and not as a CEO of a company with $500 million shareholders equity.

    3. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is not his father

    There are rumors going around saying that there would not be an election, but some questioned if the PAP administration dare to fix the presidential election so blatantly enough to appoint its chosen candidate. Some argued that it will not be let off easily if it did so happen.

    Again, many Singaporeans may have lost interest in the upcoming reserved elections due to the amount of tasteless drama and conspiracies surrounding it. Yet, despite the outcome of the election, no matter who the president is, we need to think about one important thing, “Just how far is the PAP willing to go to protect its monopolistic stranglehold on political power?”

    Presidential Hopeful Farid Khan Says He Will ‘Work Harder’ And Is ‘Almost Ready’

    Singapore presidential hopeful Farid Khan Kaim Khan said on Tuesday (Aug 8) that he would “work harder” to “reach more people” in order to compete with favoured rival Halimah Yacob and her greater political pedigree.

    Mr Farid, 62, first stated his intention to run for presidency in early July. The chairman of marine sector company Bourbon Offshore Asia was the second to do so, after an announcement by 67-year-old businessman Salleh Marican in late May.

    Mdm Halimah on Monday confirmed her bid for the post, the third name in the ring, for an election scheduled for September and reserved for Malay candidates only. The 62-year-old resigned from her official roles as Speaker and Member of Parliament (Marsiling-Yew Tee) the next day.

    Speaking on the sidelines of an annual Bourbon beach cleaning event at Pasir Ris, Mr Farid said he both “expected” and “welcomed” the entry of another candidate.

    “We want the people to have more choice,” he said. “Now there are three of us, and if more come, we welcome them too.”

    Asked what his edge was over Mdm Halimah, he said: “I’m not linked to any political party and I have no personal agenda.

    “I’m here to serve the people and the people will have to decide. If they want someone independent, that’s me.”

    He added that his campaign strategy would centre on using “a lot of social media”.

    “People just need to know me and what I stand for. This is important and it’s the message I will drive to the public.”

    It remains unclear if Mr Farid meets the eligibility criteria to join the presidential race – specifically in the requirement for private sector candidates to helm a company with at least S$500 million in shareholders’ equity.

    When first asked this at his unveiling last month, he said his team was “still compiling documents” for a successful application and he reiterated this point on Tuesday.

    “We are almost ready,” he concluded. “We will submit our application by next Wednesday.”

    Halimah Yacob Submits Letters Of Resignation As Speaker Of Parliament, MP M-YT GRC And PAP Member

    Halimah Yacob, who confirmed on Sunday (Aug 6) that she intends to contest the upcoming Presidential Election that has been reserved for Malay candidates, submitted her letters of resignation on Monday from her roles as Speaker of Parliament and People’s Action Party Member of Parliament (Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC).

    “I also tender my resignation from the People’s Action Party with immediate effect,” she said in her resignation letter to Prime Minister and Secretary-General of the PAP, Mr Lee Hsien Loong.

    She will also cease to be a member of the PAP Central Executive Committee and Chairperson of the PAP Seniors’ Group.

    She told Mr Lee that she had decided to contest the Presidential Election “after careful consideration and consultation with friends, colleagues and family members”.

    Speaking at a National Day dinner at the Marsiling Mega Sports Park, Mdm Halima had said: “I recognise that the position of the elected President has the tremendous capacity to do good for all Singaporeans and for Singapore.

    “Hence, I wish to inform you that I will be contesting in the coming Presidential Election.”

    She said on Sunday that she will ask Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to consider sending an adviser to support the work of the other Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC MPs Lawrence Wong, Alex Yam and Ong Teng Koon. She also said she had asked Mr Lee to look into making “quick replacements” for the appointments she is holding.

    She was voted by the residents living in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, yet instead of serving the residents as she was voted in for the next 5 years, she abandoned the residents who had voted for her and choose to run in September’s Presidential Election. And wayang so much whether want to contest in the election, no way would I voted for this joker who abandons the residents and abandons her constituents and self-claim herself Malay while her father is an Indian.

    She betrays the residents who had voted for her in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC and betray her own race. What would you expect if she was voted in, perhaps would be even worse than Tony Tan who has done nothing while being a president.
