    Prince Harry Joined Jamiyah Singapore For Iftar Session With Muslims At Start Of Singapore Visit

    Britain’s Prince Harry opened his visit to Singapore by breaking fast with local Muslims on Sunday (Jun 4).

    He joined Jamiyah Singapore for a tradition iftar session – the breaking of fast at sunset during the Muslim month of Ramadan – at its headquarters at Guillemard Crescent.

    On his arrival there, Prince Harry received a traditional welcome from ten kompang (Malay hand drum) players, a customary way to mark a celebratory occasion in Malay culture.

    He was also given a silat demonstration, led by former world champion Sheik Alauddin Yacoob Marican.

    As the sun started to set, he joined around 80 young Muslims for iftar.

    After breaking fast, the prince sat at a number of tables so that he could chat with guests about the celebration.

    Earlier in the day, Prince Harry visited an Action for AIDS event, where he learnt more about HIV and AIDS issues in Singapore.

    During the event at Eden Hall in Nassim Road, Prince Harry saw a rapid HIV test and met with Action for AIDS’ staff, volunteers and service users to understand more about the challenges facing the HIV-positive community in Singapore.

    He was accompanied by Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Health and chair of the National HIV/Aids Policy Committee; British High Commissioner to Singapore Scott Wightman; and Professor Roy Chan, president of Action For Aids.

    HIV and AIDS are issues that are particularly close to the prince’s heart, according to the British High Commission. He will be taking part in the Royal Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup, an annual fundraising event that will take place on Monday.

    Sentebale is a charity that Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho established in 2006 to support children living with HIV in Southern Africa.

    The prince will head to Sydney on Wednesday (Jun 7), where he will launch the fourth Invictus Games.

    The Invictus Games, founded by the prince, is an international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.

    Thomas Who Criticised Dead Traffic Police Officer Arrested For Shop Theft

    The man who was widely criticised for his comments about a Traffic Police officer who was killed on duty was arrested on Sunday (Jun 4) – albeit over an entirely different matter.

    Thomas Chua Poh Heng, 39, was arrested for alleged shop theft at a department store along Syed Alwi Road, police said in a news release in the early hours of Monday.

    The incident took place at 5.37am on Sunday. In-house security officers detained Chua outside the store with an unpaid item and handed him over to the police.

    Chua was already under investigation for three other separate police reports lodged against him since January, police said, adding that investigations into these cases were still ongoing.

    Channel NewsAsia understands that the offences include shop thefts and traffic violations.

    Chua earlier claimed that he received traffic violations from Nadzrie Matin, the police officer who was killed in a traffic accident while on duty and gloated over the officer’s death. Chua’s comments, made on Facebook, were roundly condemned by Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam as an “insult to all police officers“.

    Police told Channel NewsAsia that Chua did receive traffic summonses but confirmed that none of them were issued by the officer who died.

    “The remarks were hurtful and unfair to not only our officers but to his friends, family and loved ones as well. However, we remain objective and professional in our dealing with Thomas Chua,” a police spokesman said to Channel NewsAsia.

    Hijab Image Vandalised With Word “Terrorist” At Site Of Upcoming Marine Parade MRT Station

    A police report was made after the word “terrorist” appeared on an illustration of a Muslim woman wearing a hijab, which was part of the artwork decorating a hoarding at the site of the upcoming Marine Parade MRT station.

    Mr Haikal Latiff, 26, told The New Paper that he was on the pedestrian walkway beside Parc Seabreeze condominium in Joo Chiat Road at 10pm on Thursday when he noticed the word.

    The undergraduate, who had tweeted a photo of it, said: “My girlfriend and I took it personally because as Muslims, we felt that this was uncalled for.”

    When contacted, the Land Transport Authority said the contractor had made a police report yesterday afternoon.

    The police said investigations are ongoing.

    TNP understands that the word was written on a piece of paper with an adhesive back and stuck on the hijab.

    The Marine Parade station is part of the Thomson-East Coast Line and is expected to be ready in 2023.

    Passers-by TNP spoke to yesterday did not notice it until it was pointed out.

    Secondary student April Panton, 15, said: “I have a lot of Muslim friends and I do not think they deserve to be treated like this.”

    Tourist Joanna Niemiro, 27, who arrived here on Thursday, was shocked as she had heard that Singapore is a multiracial country.

    The Polish graphic designer said: “I am quite disgusted by it. This is definitely not art. Anyone can be a terrorist, and it should not be associated with any religion.”

    Norfasarie Jadi Tauke Niaga Kasut Melalui ‘TuMeet’

    Apabila tiba musim perayaan ramai yang memilih untuk berpakaian sedondon semasa keluar berkunjung ke rumah sanak-saudara.

    Bagi para ibu yang mempunyai anak perempuan, tahun ini mereka mempunyai lebih banyak pilihan untuk sedondon bukan sahaja dari segi pakaian malah juga kasut.

    Baru-baru ini, sebuah syarikat baru, TuMeet, yang menjual kasut wanita dan kanak-kanak perempuan dilancarkan.

    Pengasas TuMeet, Norfasarie Mohd Yahya, yang juga seorang selebriti tempatan memberitahu BERITAMediacorp bahawa syarikat terbaru itu merupakan gabungan cetusan idea daripada tiga orang wanita termasuk dirinya sendiri. Dua lagi adalah adiknya, Norazian Binte Mohd Yahya, 30 tahun, seorang guru, dan adik iparnya, Sabrina Khaizan, 26 tahun, seorang pengurus bank.

    Norfasarie yang juga pengarah SpabyNorfasarie mengorak langkah untuk membuka syarikat menjual kasut-kasut khas buat wanita dan kanak-kanak perempuan apabila idea itu tercetus pada bulan Ramadan tahun lalu semasa beliau, adik serta adik iparnya sedang membeli-belah bagi persiapan Hari Raya.

    Walaupun sudah membeli baju dan beg raya sepasang, mereka mendapati sukar untuk mendapatkan kasut yang juga sepasang dengan anak perempuan masing-masing.

    “Kami tahu bahawa jenama kasut Melissa menjual kasut sepasang untuk ibu dan anak. Namun, bahannya diperbuat daripada plastik dan terlalu kasual untuk musim perayaan. Sempena Hari Raya, ramai yang memerlukan kasut bertumit tinggi untuk dipadankan dengan baju kebaya atau baju kurung,” kongsi Norfasarie kepada BERITAMediacorp.

    Bagi jenama kasut Pazzion pula, mereka memerhatikan bahawa saiz kasut yang ditawarkan tidak mengikut saiz yang mereka perlukan. Dari situlah, adiknya menyarankan idea kepada Norfasarie supaya menubuhkan sebuah syarikat kasut untuk wanita dan kanak-kanak.

    KASUT BUATAN TANGAN

    Koleksi edisi Raya TuMeet terdiri daripada kasut-kasut tumit tinggi yang diberi nama Moza, Elora, Falisha, Moana, Alyka, Ivana, dan Emma. Harga kasut wanita bermula daripada $119 manakala harga kasut kanak-kanak perempuan bermula daripada $89.

    Kesemuanya mempunyai kasut mini untuk kanak-kanak perempuan dalam warna dan rekaan yang sama untuk digayakan ibu dan anak.

    Perbezaan antara TuMeet dengan jenama-jenama kasut yang lain adalah kesemua kasut-kasut mereka merupakan hasil buatan tangan.

    Ini kerana Norfasarie dan rakan-rakan kongsinya mengutamakan mutu berbanding kuantiti. Tiada sepasang kasut pun yang diperbuat menggunakan mesin.

    Walaupun TuMeet baru setahun jagung di pasaran, Norfasarie menegaskan bahawa TuMeet amat menitikberatkan keselesaan pemakai kasut terutama kanak-kanak.

    Beliau menekankan bahawa kasut kanak-kanak harus mempunyai span yang lebih tebal pada bahagian tapak kasut supaya lebih selesa bagi kanak-kanak memakainya.

    TuMeet turut prihatin tentang kemelecetan yang dialami kanak-kanak. Keprihatinan ini membantu mereka memastikan setiap kasut yang dihasilkan bukan sahaja cantik malah selesa dipakai untuk menghadiri pelbagai acara.

    BAGAIMANA SAMBUTAN TERHADAP TUMEET?

    Secara keseluruhannya, proses menubuhkan TuMeet mengambil masa kira-kira 10 bulan hingga setahun sebelum ia dilancarkan pada Ahad (21 Mei).

    Sebelum dilancarkan di Singapura, TuMeet dilancarkan terlebih dahulu di Brunei pada 29 April lalu.

    Sejak dilancarkan, sambutan pelanggan di kedua-dua negara begitu memberangsangkan.

    Respons di luar jangkaan itu, menurut Norfasarie, mungkin kerana ini juga merupakan kali pertama syarikat anak Melayu/Islam menghasilkan kasut khas untuk ibu dan anak di Singapura.

    RANCANGAN MASA HADAPAN

    Setakat ini, TuMeet sudahpun mengumpulkan maklum balas daripada para pelanggannya tentang keinginan mereka untuk memiliki kasut yang lebih kasual.

    Justeru, TuMeet juga merancang untuk menawarkan kasut kasual bertumit rendah pada masa akan datang.

    Some of you may be shocked at the over powering grief.. some suprised with the profile pic changes.. some may feel its no big a deal… some may even be happy and say as a TP officer he deserved it… but let me share what I do know

    He must have woken up early this morning like every other Muslim for Sahur… he must have shared a meal with his wife and his loved ones at home.. little did anyone know that was the last meal together as a family

    He would have gone to work and changed into his whites.. the rest of the male team mates together with him sharing the usual banter and tcss.. little did anyone know that be the last time he was getting into his whites

    He would then have attended inpection and briefing by his TL.. the TL talking about the lastest instructions and other matters of the day.. little did anyone know thats the last briefing he attended

    He wld have gone to the garage, checked his motorcycle and loaded his equipment.. same time talking anf laughing with hia fellow team mates..

    He wld have put on his helmet.. radioed in to his colleagues and checked in his call sign before leaving TP…..

    He wld have rode to the main gate.. smiled and waved at the sentry and tuned out from the station.. little did anyone know he was never coming back

    Today, someone lost a son, husband, brother, best friend, colleague… everyone who knows him is left to come to terms on what has happened and find solace n strenght to carry on

    You may say his death is no diffrent to any other fatal road accident.. the loss, the grief, the ppl affected… i totally agree with that view….

    but….

    He was the thin blue line that seperates the good from the bad… just like every other police officer of any rank and any vocation… so although I never knew him, it pains n hurts me to see the videos n pics being circulated…. the helpless npco holding on to him, hands covered in blood without gloves….. the TP IOs having to secure the scene.. the bosses who had to break the news to the family

    Its been a trying day for the SPF… life will still go on… police cars will patrol, tp bikes will chase, road blocks will still continie… just cut the TP boys n gals some slack with the comments and viral videos.. let us grieve for one of us without distractions

    Lets just be human
