  • Leong Sze Hian: $324.2b Owed To CPF Members?

Leong Sze Hian: $324.2b Owed To CPF Members?

I refer to the article “Why does Singapore have an external debt of US$1.766 trillion?” (Straits Times, Dec 28).

Govt “invests all the proceeds which it has borrowed”

It states that “A Government article on the subject explains that Singapore does not borrow to spend. Instead, it invests all the proceeds which it has borrowed.

Total outstanding Government borrowings is S$436b

The income which it earns from its investments is also more than sufficient to cover the debt servicing costs. As of March this year, the total outstanding Government borrowings stood at S$436 billion.

The Government issues three types of domestic debts:

    * Singapore Government Securities to develop the domestic debt market;

CPF is part of domestic debts

    * Special Singapore Government Securities to meet the investment needs of the Central Provident Fund, and

    * Singapore Saving Bonds to provide individual investors with a long-term saving option that offers safe returns.

What is also important to note is that unlike some other countries which have to raise funds in currencies such as the US dollar or euro to balance their books, the Government does not have any foreign currency debts.”

Amount due to CPF members is $324.2b

According to the Department of Statistics’ Monthly Digest of Statistics – the Amount Due to (CPF) Members is $324.2 billion in October, 2016.

This has been increasing steadily annually from $150.9 million in January 1961.

% credited to CPF members – “na” from 1961 to 2001?

The Interest Credited to CPF members is shown as “na” from January 1961 to December 2001.

    % in 2002 was 2.6%?

For January 2002 – the Interest Credited was $238 million over the Amount Due to Members of $92.9 billion.

This works out to an annual interest of only about 2.6 per cent.

    % in 2006 was 3.1%?

Similarly, for October 2016 – the Interest Credited was $1.02 billion over the Amount Due to Members of $324.2 billion.

This works out to an annual interest of about 3.1 per cent (up to October).

    Real % was 0.5% from 2001 to 2015?

Since inflation from 2001 to 2015 was about 2 per cent per annum (CPI 2015 99.461 divided by 2001 75.568) – does it mean that the real annualised rate of return on our CPF Ordinary Account is only about 0.5 per cent (2.5 – 2.0) per annum?

Lowest real % of all national pension funds in the world?

Is this the lowest real rate of return of all national pension funds in the world since 1999 – the year that I understand that the CPF Ordinary Account interest rate has remained at 2.5 per cent until now?

    Returns from investing our CPF?

What is the annualised rate of return derived from investing our CPF funds since 1999?

In this connection, I would like to quote again – “A Government article on the subject explains that Singapore does not borrow to spend. Instead, it invests all the proceeds which it has borrowed“.

Cumulative returns from investing our CPF vs % to CPF members?

What is the cumulative difference between the annualised rate of return derived from investing our CPF funds since 1961 (when CPF started) to today, and the annualised rate given to CPF members?

In absolute numbers on a cumulative basis with interest – how much money are we talking about over the last 55 years?

    No transparency and accountability?

Are we the only developing or developed country in the world that is arguably non-transparent, as there is no disclosure on the rate of return derived from our pension funds relative to the weighted average interest rate paid on all our CPF accounts (Ordinary, Special, Medisave and Retirement accounts)?

    $324.2b owed to CPF members?

Also, does it mean that our domestic debt owed to CPF members is $324.2 billion?

  • Singaporean Auxiliary Officer Not Good Enough?

Singaporean Auxiliary Officer Not Good Enough?

I am a auxiliary officer and have been working for close to 2 years. I have many friends that apply security part time work after they finish polytechnic. Nowadays i see there is more demand for security type of jobs.

But now they are outsourcing to Taiwanese? I know people that are willing to do security job work ok, so don’t say that local Singaporeans don’t want security jobs. People are already looked down for choosing security guard as their first job after finishing school. It doesn’t help these people’s confidence in the job. If employers want to retain them, they must do something. Only officers like us will know this feeling.

Even salary difference between us and the future Taiwanese officers is so big. What’s the differences they have to get more starting pay than us? They graduate from their own uni we graduate from poly but end up, we do same job. If do same job then why give them higher pay….so they coming here to become supervisors? I have my own family to feed and take care of my parents. actually we should get higher pay.

  • Beware Of This Hougang Nanny, Our Baby Became Drowsy And Sick After Her Care

Beware Of This Hougang Nanny, Our Baby Became Drowsy And Sick After Her Care

    <Facebook complaint by Clara Ong>

PLEASE TAKE NOTE ON NANNY (DIAH JAMARI) staying at Blk 446 Hougang ave 8 #XX-XXXX. My Daughter had been hospitalise for 4 days after sending to her. Because she’s sick and Super drowsy. Nanny claims that baby’s tired just not enough sleep. But Doctors told us baby’s behaving this way not due to not enough sleep.

Today, police IO called me and told me that they will need to come down to speak to us to further investigate because they just checked and found out that multiple reports was Made against this nanny over the same reason that babies got drowsy after sending to Nanny’s place. When admitted my baby girl to hospital, nanny doesn’t response or reply any of our messages.

When we go down her house and confronted nanny about it, she keep changing her story and say that this is due to baby not enough sleep. As a parent, how can we not be worried about our baby girl as she’s barely one year old and yet she have to go thru so many scans and X-ray, whereby is harmful to her body because the radiation is strong. When we told nanny about the scan and X-ray that baby’s going thru, nanny still can replied us with a inhuman reply “is only one time scan so nevermind”. What kind of reply is that.

When we asked nanny what did she do to my baby girl. Nanny claims that she did nothing and even start giving excuse say that baby’s all the way playing on her own and she didn’t carry our baby at all BECAUSE SHE CLAIMS THAT MY BABY GIRL IS TOO HEAVY FOR HER TO CARRY. if you are telling me that the nanny is big and heavy can’t carry I could understand but you are telling me a small baby you can’t carry? Then why do you even agree to take care of babies or even being a babysitter or nanny? Nanny even called police and claims that we accused her. And even slam her door on us.

When police arrived at the doorstep, she became another person, she came down and wear make up and even dress up herself and talk so nicely and politely to the police. Really didn’t know what Did she do to my baby girl and cause her this way but currently we are waiting for her blood test result to be out. And also just received news of another baby just took blood test and under investigate because of this nanny.

P.S:// Please kindly share around to promote awareness of this to prevent innocent babies from getting hurt again.

  • Knocked Unconscious On MRT Platform, Man Pressing Charges To Bring Hit-And-Run Attacker To Justice

Knocked Unconscious On MRT Platform, Man Pressing Charges To Bring Hit-And-Run Attacker To Justice

On boxing day evening, as i was heading home, just about to board the train, i was knocked out unconscious by one of two teens who were running / racing on the platform.

According to the MRT staff, i collided with the boy, and we both fell. The boy got up and he and his friend ran to board a train, leaving me lying unconscious on the ground. I think i was unconscious before i hit the ground. MRT staff said i was K.O.ed for 30s.

MRT staff carried me off to a room. I have no recollection of the collision. My face is bruised swollen and i have a bump on my head. I suffered from some memory loss. Somehow i managed to give my gf’s contact to the staff, although i have no recollection of that either. My gf arrived and accompanied me to the hospital.

I will be pressing charges because

    1. I want to find out who my hit and run assailants are.

    2. I do not want anyone to think they can irresponsibly run away after causing hurt regardless of intention. If a fragile elderly got hit it could have been fatal.

    3. I have important appointments this week and their actions really brought me great inconvenience.

Incident happened at Hill View station. Between 8.30pm to 8.45pm. Anyone with information is welcomed to contact me. I do have an SMRT staff eye witness and CCTV recording.

Update: I am discharged with ‘minor head injury’ status, a bump on the right side of my head, swollen lower left cheek, and the left side of my neck has strain supposedly from the whiplash of my fall.
