Man Sets Fire To Flat After Fight With Wife

A man, who had been arguing with his wife on the phone, ended up setting fire to his Choa Chu Kang flat.

One of his tenants and her 3½-year-old daughter were in the flat at that time.

The Saturday evening blaze destroyed the flat but, fortunately, no one was hurt.

The dramatic events were recounted to The New Paper by the tenant’s husband, who wanted to be known only as Mr Johnson.

The 29-year-old said his wife had told him that from their room, they heard their landlord arguing angrily with someone on the phone.

    Then, it went quiet.

About 15 minutes later, at about 7.40pm, smoke wafted into their room.

Before they could figure out what happened, they heard frantic knocks on their door.

It was their landlord, dressed in only his boxers, screaming: “Come out!”

Mr Johnson, his wife, also 29, and their daughter had just moved into the 12th-storey flat at Block 688A, Choa Chu Kang Drive, earlier that day.

As the fire progressed, residents were hit by the acrid smoke from the burning 12th-storey unit.

Then, they heard sounds of explosions.

“My landlord was sitting at the stairs, crying,” added Mr Johnson.

“He was crying and kept apologising. He said he had wanted to kill himself but got scared when the fire grew bigger.”

The man had started the fire by burning bedsheets.

The 45-year-old was later arrested by police.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force spokesman said about 40 residents living on the 12th, 13th and 14th storeys were evacuated from the block.

The fire was put out by a water jet and no one was injured, he added.

  • Beware Of This Molester Who Touched My Daughter’s Breast In Shop At AMK Hub

Beware Of This Molester Who Touched My Daughter’s Breast In Shop At AMK Hub

    Dear ASS,

This Incident happen on 02/08/15, Sunday, 3:10pm. I was shopping with my 15yrs old daughter inside the shop name called Hako (that sells a lot of accessories) in AMKHub.

I realize there’s this medium build tanned looking guy with the whole hair white hair that is always standing beside me and my daughter. Initially I thought he was just looking at the accessories beside me so I never really notice much on that too. Then after shopping for a while, I went to outside of the store and waited for my daughter as she went to make payment at the cashier.

Just few mins after I came out, I saw my daughter shouting out to the white haired guy and asking why did he touch her breast. I was in a state of shockness. My husband was with me and he heard about the commotion and straight away, he gave that man a punch in a fit of anger. The guy didn’t retaliate and kept claiming that he did not touched her.

I was very angry, I told him no point arguing now, there’s CCTV in the shop, so we shall wait to see the truth. I call the police immediately to report the case.

While waiting for the police, I asked my daughter what happen. She told me that the guy had bump into her twice in the store already. But the first 2 times only brush against her hand so she thought maybe it was accidentally. But the third time while she was near the cashier, the guy use his elbow and brush against her breast.

This is too much, obviously this is intentionally!!! Who in the hell would raise up his elbow and walk? Seriously! And 3x in a row at the shop, mind you, we were in the shop for 10-15mins only. The passage way of the shop is abt 1m apart, don’t tell me you need to squeeze yr way out in a 1m path way?

And when my daughter call out to him in the shop to stop him, he keep rushing out of the store and not responding to my daughter. Just FYI, my daughter called him and tap his shoulder. In a normal circumstance, if a normal person were to tap yr shoulder, would U at least turn back and ask wat happen? He didn’t! He just keep walking out of the store until he reaches the exit and my daughter scare that he might walk away so she grab his shirt to stop him. This is when he finally stopped and turn back.

And still can have the cheek to act very innocent and act as if we accuses him. I faster went into the shop and check with the shop assistant if we can retrieve the CCTV, she say no problem at all. I’m also very glad that the shop assistant was very helpful, she told me she will offer her assistance to the police in the event if they require any information.

Never in my entire life would I expect this type of thing will happen to my daughter. And luckily she’s brave enough to report the act. He should be aiming at her for quite some time already, this type of LAO DI KOR likes to aim for this type of teens gals. Because he feels that they might be scare to report it.

And I’m very sure it’s not the first time he had been doing this. I really hope that if there’s any witness to come forward to assist to make sure the fellow will be deserve the rightful sentence from the judge. So that he does not harm any of the other gals anymore. Attached with his picture, appreciate if all of you can share this story and make sure he does not have the chance to repeat the same act again.

  • Jover Chew Faces New Charges, 28 Now In Total

Jover Chew Faces New Charges, 28 Now In Total

Two fresh charges have been brought against Jover Chew, the former owner of Sim Lim Square electronics shop Mobile Air, bringing the total number of charges he faces to 28.

These charges were read during a pre-trial conference today (July 30). Chew, 33, allegedly exhibited insulting behaviour and caused distress to a customer, Ms Zou Jing Tong, in October last year.

Ms Zou had to pick up small change amounting to S$547 after Chew had scattered it on the floor of his shop. The amount owed to Ms Zou was part of a Small Claims Tribunal order. For this, he could be fined up to S$5,000.

The second charge sees Chew accused of abetment by conspiracy to cheat walk-in customers between December 2013 and Sept 24 last year with Kam Kok Keong, an ex-employee.

On Sept 24 last year, Kam allegedly tricked Ms Zou into believing that she could buy an iPhone 6 Plus for S$1,600 — a fact that Kam knew to be false. For this, Kam, 31, faces the same charge as Chew, bringing the total number of charges brought against Kam to nine.

If convicted of abetment by conspiracy to cheat, Chew and Kam could be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.

Mobile Air became notorious after a video of a tourist, Pham Van Thoai, going on his knees to beg for a refund at the shop went viral. The Vietnamese had paid S$950 for an iPhone 6, but was told he had to add S$1,500 in warranty fees.

Three other employees — Koh Guan Seng, 38, Lim Hong Ching, 33, and Lim Zhi Wei Kelvin, 32 — have also been charged. They face one to 15 charges each of abetment by conspiracy to commit cheating.

All five men are out on bail. A pre-trial conference for them will be held on Aug 27.
