  • Lions Always Had Chinese Players, What’s Stopping Them Now?

Lions Always Had Chinese Players, What’s Stopping Them Now?

Singapore had the Quah brothers, then came Au-Yeong Pak Kuan, David Lee & Tay Peng Kee playing in the Malaysia Cup, Steven Tan, Lee Man Hon, Lim Tong Hai, Stephen Ng & Amos Boon followed into the national set-up.

Now we have Gabriel Quak and Gymkhana FC have Hong & Jonathan playing…

There are many Chinese players playing (see Katong FC & Tiong Bahru FC) but are they scouted and deemed good enough for our country for international exposure…

Many more Chinese players in the COEs and Prime League. I personally dont think getting the Chinese boys to play and have a career in football is the problem…

I will leave this notion open…peace & out!

  • Why Can’t Suntec City’s Information Counter Staff Understand Common English Words And Religious Tenets?

Why Can’t Suntec City’s Information Counter Staff Understand Common English Words And Religious Tenets?

Hi Suntec 🙂 So I just casually walked up to your information counter at Level 1, nearest Tower 4, to a smiling staffer – Li Yuwei. I asked if there were any halal bakeries around. And after repeating myself a couple of times, I discovered that she doesn’t know what Halal means.

Of course I was a little surprised but it was far from a rude shock. I tried to explain it as a concept (in a very clumsy way, because in truth, the last time I had to explain what it meant was in a weekend madrasah exam, 20 years ago). After fumbling over myself, I asked for just any bakery or pastry shop. Then I actually found myself also trying to explain what a bakery or pastry shop is.

So I also wrote down on a piece of paper the words “bakery” and “pastry shop”. She dutifully went on to search it in her system. And with that same smile (now just a little bit more pursed) she wrote down and presented to me this attached piece of paper with the details of a bakery at Middle Road. a 20 minute walk away!

I gave a smile back as I took the piece of paper and said my thanks for the help she was able to provide. As I walked away from the counter, I couldn’t help but wished she was a cute, cuddly cat instead – so that I could pet my frustrations away and forgive it for not being able to understand some commonly-used human words and religious tenets.

I hope you take this seriously and get some cats on your information counters soon. Thank you Suntec.

  • If You Are Thinking About Becoming A Full-Time Delivery Rider, Read This

If You Are Thinking About Becoming A Full-Time Delivery Rider, Read This

If you are a delivery rider, you should read this

It is not uncommon for full time delivery riders to pull in $3000-$4000 a month on 12 hour shifts (daily). Even Uber / Grab drivers get to earn about $5000-$6000 per month (gross).

For some, this is more than what some of our peers earn in their office or F&B jobs.

Coupled with the flexible working hours, it makes this option extremely attractive.

If you intend to be a full time delivery rider / uber / grab driver, please be aware of two very important facts.

First: You do not get the benefits that an employee has.

There are no employer’s CPF contribution, medical benefits, paid annual leave or work injury compensation. No CPF means problem getting a house. No medical benefits means no pay if you fall sick. No compensation means, you pay out of your own pocket of you get into an accident.

    Second: There is no upskilling.

You ride and ride. You drive every day. There is no incentive for you to upskill. It’s a dead end job. Going to courses will actually take your time away from the road which means less income for you.

In my honest opinion, these jobs are only good for extra money or for a temporary period. If you think about making this your lifelong career, see my two points above and think again.

I think working at McDonalds got more career prospect.

    All the best bro.

  • Ex-SCDF Major Convicted Of Taking Upskirt Pictures Of Colleagues

Ex-SCDF Major Convicted Of Taking Upskirt Pictures Of Colleagues

SINGAPORE: A former Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) major was convicted on Wednesday (May 3) of two counts of insulting the modesty of a woman, after taking multiple upskirt videos of a 26-year-old colleague.

Poh Siok Peng, 45, admitted to taking the videos over two years at SCDF’s headquarters at Ubi Avenue 4 before he was caught in a sting operation involving hidden cameras in March last year.

Poh, a 20-year veteran of the force, met the victim in 2013 when she joined the SCDF. Both worked in the strategic planning department.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Chee Ee Ling said the victim sensed something amiss when Poh started to frequent her office cubicle “to chat”.

He would sit in front of her “in an awkward position” and bend down often “as if to reach for something under (the victim’s) desk”, DPP Chee said.

When the woman saw a flashing light under her desk one day as Poh chatted to her, she realised what was going on. She reported Poh to the director of manpower.

A sting operation involving hidden cameras positioned around the victim’s cubicle caught Poh in the act on Mar 9.

Poh’s phone was seized, and two upskirt videos of the victim, taken on Mar 4 and 9, were retrieved.

Poh later told the police he had been taking upskirt videos of the victim for two years before he was caught.

However, other videos he had taken of the victim were not recovered because Poh had sold his old mobile phones, he said.

He also confessed to taking an upskirt video of an unidentified woman on an escalator.

Poh said he would view the videos “in the wee hours of the night as a form of stress-relief”.

    POH “UNLIKELY TO RE-OFFEND”: LAWYER

DPP Chee argued that a jail term of at least six weeks was warranted.

However, Poh’s lawyer said the videos had not captured the victim’s “sensitive or private parts”, “only thighs”.

The lawyer urged the court to impose a fine or a jail term of less than four weeks, saying that Poh had been a young victim of a sexual crime but had since sought professional help. It was “unlikely he will re-offend in future”, the lawyer added.

Poh, who is married with two children, will be sentenced on May 17.

For insulting the modesty of a woman, Poh could be jailed for up to one year and fined.

Love Sungei Road? #iloveSungeiRoad, Give Development The Middle Finger

“I Love Sungei Road” so I spent a Saturday afternoon trying to get the vendors to express their loss and anger at having to lose their rice bowl but all except for two vendors were unwilling or afraid to show their displeasure. It is a documentation of a state of mind, of fear of speaking up and the invisible OB markers.

I know, I know it will most likely be a lost cause, but I’m not ready to give up without trying. I feel for the place and only hope that it can somehow be saved.

It is a place I used to visit as a youth to pick up rare and vintage sneakers in an inexpensive bid to set myself apart from my peers who were splurging hundreds of dollars on limited release apparel. A place I visited for really cheap albeit slightly mouldy camera equipment as a student. It is also where I found a rare copy of Versace’s lookbook featuring work shot by the legendary Richard Avedon for $1 !!! Where do we go when it is closed? How many of the hawkers would get help and subsidised rental when its gone? 🙁

So #iloveSungeiRoad with your middle fingers if you feel that Singapore is changing too fast and if you feel for the hawkers and vendors being left behind in our push to change everything good and authentic.

Send in yourself with middle fingers at Sungei Road and I’ll publish them on instagram as well as here. Do send your images to [email protected]m

    Thank you for your support!
