    Komentar: Isu Banning Mufti Menk

I have told myself to avoid commenting on specifics with regards to Islam in my posting but the recent resurfacing of the ban on Mufti Menk made me decide to do otherwise.

Firstly, Mufti Menk comes from Zimbabwe, a majority (87%) Christian country where he is the chosen Muslim leader recognized by the Government of the country and the majority Christian masses. Surely, if he is intolerant towards Christians as the ban seems to imply, he would not have continued as the Mufti of that majority Christian country.

I have personally met Mufti Menk when he visited and spoke in Singapore before. Personally i have never heard him prior to that chanced meeting although i have heard about him from others. He paid an unplanned visit to Irsyad while i was still working there. He was all praise for Singapore then. In fact he gave some advice to us to be grateful for having our Government. In his opinion the Government is just and have the people’s interest in mind. He was most impressed liked many visitors do of our physical landscape, its upkeep and cleanliness. These things he commented are more reflective of the real Islamic values being lived by collectively here and that most Muslim countries sadly failed miserably from doing likewise.

I was told by friends that his banning was supposedly driven by some minority Muslim groups who seemed more interested to demonise him for their own personal sectarian interest rather than about the issue of wishing Christians Merry Christmas during Christmas. That was just a convenient alibi.

It is really sad the the Government resorted to banning a well known popular Islamic preacher like Mufti Menk that i can confidently say majority Muslims in Singapore admired with his beautiful eloquent English language and respectful tolerant preaching, which many non-Muslim too who attended his talks can testify. By the way, his event here in Singapore was very well attended.

From what i heard, his advised to Muslims is misunderstood, as we may not want to only wish our Christian friends, neighbours, colleagues, etc., using the words Merry Christmas. This is because the celebration of Christmas for believing Christians is closely associated to the concept of the birth of the Christian deity (God) in the person of Christ which unfortunately goes against the way we Muslim accepts Jesus, only as one of the mightiest Prophets of God.

Having said this, we are most certainly encouraged to shower best wishes, gifts, etc., of all other kinds and in many more other acceptable ways on that Day to Christians if we chose to do so. I believe any Christian would fully understand, appreciate and not demand of Muslims to only wish them Merry Christmas just as it would be wrong of Muslims to demand non-Muslims to recite the supplication we do for one another invoking the name of Allah on Hari Raya.

Finally, we must learn to understand and tolerate differences as ultimately fundamental differences between religions do exist just as there are similarities that we would rather talk about. All these are done in the true spirit of respect towards each others freedom and choice of religion. This respect towards other religion is fundamental for Muslims as in Islam there is no compulsion in religion and religious diversity is recognized and we are demanded not to say or act towards other believes disrespectfully.

With regards to the matter of wishing one another on our own religious holy day, we should be more understanding and tolerant towards those who chooses to just wish us well or the best of health and spirit on that day or even those who chooses to remain silent, and able to live and let live rather than demand of one another to wish only as a believing devotee would.

May our Government reconsider the ban on Mufti Menk after seeking clearer informations and insights or even having a dialogue with him. May wisdom and reason prevail over shallow thinking and misguided parochial advise.

  • Nak Berhijab Ke Tak?

    Nak Berhijab Ke Tak?

“Kenapa kau asik pakai tak senonoh je.. bila kau nak tutup aurat??”

Almost everyday, aku membebel dengan dia.

“Nampak cleavage laaaaa.. tak malu eh?”

    “Diyaaaaam ar..!!!”

“Orang cakap baik2.. tanak dengar. Lantak kau la”

Aku selalu doakan.. hopefully.. one day dia akan tutup aurat. Aku sayang dia sangat2.. and aku takut dia makin selesa tak tutup aurat.

Ramai ladies are blessed with beautiful hair, skin and body. And its difficult untuk our species hide our flawlessness.

Satu masa dulu, aku dengan arwah adik aku suka buat rambut.
Every 6 months, kita tukar hairstyle.
    Beratus duit habis atas rambut.
    Kejap perm. Kejap rebond.
Kejap merah. Kejap hijau. Kejap perang.
    Kejap panjang. Kejap pendek.
    Jahanam rambut.

Tiap kali tukar hairstyle, rasa macam supermodel keluar dari saloon.
Ada angin tau.. macam heroine hindustan..
    Feel so so pweety..

Aku mula berhijab seriously sejak umur 21 tahun. And sepanjang aku berhijab, ramai yang nak tengok rambut aku. Aku ni vain. Suka sangat orang puji. And masa baru2 berhijab, tempted giler nak tunjuk orang gambar2 aku yang tak berhijab.. especially kalau yang nak tengok tu kawan2 lelaki.

    “Nak tunjuk ke tak eh..”

Berkali2 soalan tu bermain dalam otak aku..

And usually aku akan tanya dia..

“Kau gila eh? Baik takyah pakai tudung kalau nak tunjuk! Selenge sak..”

    Ye tak ye eh..

Fast forward, one day.. dia duduk depan cermin and tetiba mengamuk.. ramas shawl and buang atas katil. Mata dia berair. Geram.

Aku nampak dari jauh.. and masuk bilik..

    “Kau da kenapa?”

“Aku tak tau pakai.. pakaikan pls..”

    “K.. aku gosokkan balik eh?”

    Sambil aku serkup kepala dia..
    Aku pinkan bawah dagu dia..

    Dia kata..

“Bhen.. Allah paksa aku berhijab.. finally aku berhijab”

    She broke down..
    Aku was so heartbroken..
    Dia berhijab lepas chemo..
    She lost her beautiful hair..
    Aku hugged dia kuat2..

“Tak semua dapat peluang ni Zah.. ramai yang masih hanyut..”

“Yea.. aku bersyukur sangat2.. Allah sayang aku..”

    Bila kau nak berhijab?

    Tell me..

    Nak tunggu sampai Allah “paksa”?

Or nak tunggu sampai da tak bernyawa..?

Jangan biarkan kain kapan jadi hijab kita yang pertama..

    Belum ready? Bila akan ready?
Belum baik? Perintah berhijab is baligh.. bukan baik.

May Allah SWT makes us amongst those yang suka nak tutup aurat..

Tutup aurat ni bukti cinta kita pada Allah SWT..

Kita dengar perintah Allah.. dan kita ikut..
    No questions..
    No arguments..

Makin cantik perempuan.. makin patut dia sembunyikan kecantikan dia..

And the bad news is.. kalau namanya perempuan, memang Allah da jadikan cantik..

    Tutuplah aurat.. sebelum terlambat..

Today aku dapat 2 PM on someone yang baru diagnosed with cancer. Every other day, mesti ada.

Tunggu apa lagi? Life kita terlalu short. Kita takde masa da..

  • Football Association Of Malaysia Slapped With Heavy Fine Over SEA Games ‘Anjing’ Chants & Other Insults

Football Association Of Malaysia Slapped With Heavy Fine Over SEA Games ‘Anjing’ Chants & Other Insults

The FAM were fined a total of US$56,000 (S$76,000) after being found liable on six different charges from five matches.

The bulk of the fine was a consequence of insulting chants by Malaysian supporters group Ultras Malaya in SEA Games group matches against Brunei and Singapore. The group labelled its opponents ‘dogs’, resulting in a US$15,000 fine for each match.

Crowd trouble at two other SEA Games matches – Malaysia vs Indonesia and Indonesia vs Cambodia – saw FAM fined US$7,500 and US$5,000 respectively. Fans at the Malaysia against Indonesia semi-final clash let off a sound bomb, while there were bottles thrown onto the pitch at the other match.

The FAM were also fined US$7,500 after water bottles, caps and cups were thrown at match officials when Malaysia faced Hong Kong at Hang Jebat Stadium in September and another US$6,000 for Harimau Malaya players harassing match officials at the end of the Asian Cup qualifier.

Malaysia coach Nelo Vingada, meanwhile, was fined US$5,000 for making “insulting comments” about match officials to the press following the 1-1 draw with Hong Kong.

Malaysia skipper Safiq Rahim was also docked US$1,000 following his red card in the return leg of the Hong Kong game in October.

  • (Banned) Haslin Baharim: ‘Why I Am Being Treated Similar To Zakir Naik? I Want To Meet Them’

(Banned) Haslin Baharim: ‘Why I Am Being Treated Similar To Zakir Naik? I Want To Meet Them’

Muslim preacher Haslin Baharim has denied spreading divisive messages and is requesting to meet Singaporean authorities over the republic’s move to bar him from entering the country.

The preacher said allegations his talks were a threat to social harmony and bred intolerance towards non-Muslims were untrue.

“The reason for the ban was shocking. I don’t know who their sources are to say my sermons are a threat to harmony and non-Muslims,” Haslin told The Malaysian Insight today.

Haslin and grand mufti of Zimbabwe Ismail Menk, were singled out by Singapore’s Home Affairs ministry in a statement yesterday as threatening the country’s social harmony with their divisive messages.

“Such divisive views breed intolerance and exclusivist practices that will damage social harmony and cause communities to drift apart,” the statement said.

“They are unacceptable in the context of Singapore’s multiracial and multi-religious society.”

Haslin, 48, said he has travelled often to Singapore to give sermons and preach.

“When I was contacted by the religious authorities about the ban, I was shocked. I understand if they don’t want to let me preach, but why must they ban me from entering Singapore?

“I am being treated similar to Zakir Naik,” he said.

Naik is a controversial Muslim preacher from India who is wanted in his home country over money-laundering and terrorism-related charges.

Haslin claims in all of his sermons in Singapore, he had never spoken on sensitive issues as he was aware of the guidelines issued by the country’s religious council.

“We were informed and given guidelines on what can be touched on in our sermons. I adhered to all the guidelines.

“Perhaps they saw a video of my sermon in Malaysia where I may have spoken on race and religion, but even then, I was speaking on Islamic syariah law.”

Haslin said he was willing to apologise to Singapore authorities if it was proven he had caused the people to be divided, adding the allegations were “serious and tarnished my name”.

“That’s why I want to meet them and give an explanation.

“I have never met them. I have never questioned their laws, I just want to see the evidence, so I can also explain if it’s a misunderstanding,” he said.

The two preachers were scheduled to speak on board an Islamic-themed cruise from November 25 to 26.
