ME3 Silvakumar S/O Utharapathy – Signals Specialist Is Serangoon Road Hero

Seen the reports (http://ebx.sh/2eB9o9I) on how a group of men returning from a ceremonial procession helped administer CPR to an unconscious elderly man on Sunday?

Meet ME3 Silvakumar s/o Utharapathy! The 58-year old Signals specialist was on his way to the temple for a fire-walking ceremony when he came across the elderly man lying on the ground at a Shell station along Serangoon Road. Instinctively, he stepped forward and helped to resuscitate him before the SCDF ambulance arrived.

ME3 Silvakumar’s act of kindness embodies the Soldier Strong spirit, and we salute him for his selflessness! We caught up with him today to find out more.

ME3 Silvakumar shared that he had learned CPR in the Army back in 1982 and is a skill that he keeps refreshed constantly. However, he highlights that learning how to perform CPR was one thing, but deciding to act when the moment required it was a different thing altogether. He adds, “I hope people will learn to not be afraid of helping others in public, especially when a life is at stake, because sometimes it might be too late waiting for the authorities.” Ultimately, ME3 Silvakumar is humbled by the inadvertent publicity garnered, but hopes that through this incident, people will be inspired to step forward when they know that they can make a difference.

When asked to describe her father in a word, Ms Aishwaryaa Kumar (left), daughter of ME3 Silvakumar, said “selfless”. His tendency to go above and beyond self was not isolated to this incident, and she described various other occasions during which he demonstrated such courage. A significant incident occurred in 2009 when ME3 Silvakumar rushed into the Marriott Hotel in Jakarta shortly after it was bombed by terrorists. He was near the hotel when he heard an explosion and saw the smoke, and within minutes, he was on his bicycle racing over. He ran into the hotel and eventually brought out two injured victims and sent them to the hospital.

Of his selflessness, Ms Kumar adds, “He doesn’t ask for anything in return. He reminds us that it doesn’t matter if we are unappreciated; what matters most is that it doesn’t stop you from helping and making a difference to someone’s life.”

    Well done, ME3 Silvakumar!

  • MUIS: Yusof Ishak Mosque Set To Open In First Quarter 2017

MUIS: Yusof Ishak Mosque Set To Open In First Quarter 2017

The Masjid Yusof Ishak is set to be completed in time for its scheduled opening in the first quarter of 2017, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) said in a Facebook post last week.

Photos of the mosque’s unique architecture, including two stunning images taken in the evening with the building aglow, were shared by Muis.

Muis said that the mosque’s design blended traditional mosque characteristics with Nusantara (a modern term for the Indonesian archipelago) heritage, while “also addressing functional requirement”.

“Islamic motifs and Nusantara pattern are prominently used throughout the mosque,” it added.

Named after Singapore’s first president Yusof Ishak, the mosque in Woodlands cost $18 million to build and will have a capacity for 4,500 worshippers. It is the 26th mosque to be built under the Mosque Building and Mendaki Fund programme.

It was previously reported that the design also drew inspiration from Mr Yusof’s official and private residences, with a prominent feature being the use of eaves that are distinctive of a tropical Malay house.

In line with the values of multiculturalism and inclusiveness that Mr Yusof – who served as head of state from 1965 to 1970 – stood for, Muis said the mosque will have numerous facilities to cater to the needs of the elderly, as well as more spaces for families to pray.

Other features include a multi-purpose hall, a conference room, a sizeable auditorium, seminar rooms for teaching purposes and a roof terrace.

  • LGBT Community Given A Lot Of Public Space In Singapore, Why Pushing For More?

LGBT Community Given A Lot Of Public Space In Singapore, Why Pushing For More?

    Dear All Singapore Stuff,

This is what I saw this Sunday on my MRT ride back home. Two men openly kissing on the train. Everyone was looking at them. I was kind enough to take the pic without a direct shot of the boy’s face.

I respect everyone’s rights, but this is Simply Disgusting in a public space.

What if my children saw this and asked “Mummy, why are the two men kissing?”

Would I have to answer “It’s the same as normal love and marriage. The only difference is that one man opens his buttocks for the other man to put his private part inside but in the end, no babies come out. They only get AIDS”?!

Is this another publicity stunt by the gay community?

Most people in SG already know they exist but would prefer that they just go back inside the closet and stop seeking attention.

Recently, Minister Chan Chun Sing bravely spoke out against public displays of homosexuality in Singapore. These were his words “I’m not going to discriminate … (You’re free to do) whatever you do behind your bedroom doors … It’s not my problem. I’m not a sex policeman … But if you tell everyone to champion pro-LGBT or anti-LGBT (causes), it (might) cause social divisions, so (I have to step in) to be the policeman in the middle.” (source: http://m.todayonline.com/singapore/chan-chun-sing-urges-youth-go-beyond-…)

It seems that we really need sex policemen like Mr Chan and stricter laws to keep the urges of the gay community in check. The gay minority can do whatever they want in their bedroom but they should not be going around promoting the gay lifestyle and demanding for gay marriage. They can be gay but we have our right not to accept their behaviour in public. A vast majority of Singaporeans do not approve of gay marriage and are unlikely to change our minds anytime soon. Singapore should not degenerate into a free-for-all where gay men can brazenly go around wrecking young boys’ buttocks in the name of love, without fearing the consequences of their actions.

Homosexuals should be thankful that they have their annual Pink Dot. We as the moral majority have already given them enough public space. What more do they want? Gay sex parties? Gay parades? To be able to teach kids about gay sex? Some of them are not contented with Pink Dot and intimacy in private. Instead, they want to flaunt their gayness in public and ‘confront’ normal heterosexual couples until they accept them as normal and see them as equally ‘married’. No, homosexual relationships are not normal and therefore will be never be equal to a real marriage between a man and a woman. We have to draw the line at some point. For many of us, life is not just about fulfilling sexual fetishes that are falsely attributed to genetics.
