    Ong Ye Kung: Multi-Party Democracy Is Not The Way Forward For Singapore

    Speaking at the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) conference, Education Minister Ong Ye Kung warned that democracy would ruin Singapore, and claimed that his ruling party is Singapore’s success formula and that having opposition parties impedes decision-making.

    “The Republic’s formula for success could well be a one-party system. A multi-party system could slow down decision-making and nimbleness while navigating an ever-changing world and environment. Imagine, if we have a multi-party system back in 1965, will we have come so far so quickly?”

    According to Minister Ong Ye Kung, a democracy with multiple political parties will create racism and politics will become a “toxic mix” and “nasty”:

    “Should the political landscape here evolve into one with more than one dominant political party, it could mean a lot more jostling on the ground as unions and various associations and even the media become split as parties seek support. Should political parties align themselves along sinister lines, such as by race, language or religion, this toxic mix could leave the country broken. Even as political parties represent diverse views, that very same essence can take a nasty twist, sowing discord and dividing societies.”

    The Minister who shares half the education ministry profile also said that Singaporeans are the ones who chose PAP as the single ruling party and that they reject having a multi-party government:

    “But a single-party system in the case of Singapore is not a prescription but an outcome of choice resulting from elections. If the people of a country wish for a multi-party system, it will be so.”

    Minister Ong Ye Kung also dismissed the role of Opposition parties as critics, and that they do not have the nation’s interests at heart:

    “The job of the opposition parties is to point out the risks of a single-party rule. That is their job. But the job of the PAP (People’s Action Party) is to make sure that Singapore continues to flourish. We will also point out the risks of a multi-party system and, most importantly, we must always keep out the ills of complacency, elitism and corruption.”

    Is She Out Of The Race? Singaporeans Knows She’s Indian?

    I saw a post on facebook and wanted to share it because it might have a significant effect to Singapore and our malay community here.

    As you know the presidential election is coming, and Halimah Yacob might probably not be a ‘Malay’. It turns out that she actually had an Indian-Muslim father and her IC would have stated ‘Indian’ had her father not pass away before the registration. So now it really depends on the new committee to declare her either ‘Malay’ or ‘Indian’.

    But the lady had been a close friend to the Muslim society throughout the years, definitely a better people’s choice as compared to other potential Malay presidential candidate.

    Sumbanganya terhadap rakyat Singapura memang disanjung tidak seperti ahli-ahli politik yang lain. Tak tahulah apa yang akan terjadi nanti beberapa bulan kemudian. Adakah negara kita dilanda jenis politik perkauman?

    Thought of the Day – Political illiteracy

    I had a nice chat with an alumni of my Alma Mater today over lunch.

    He told me that many of the Singaporeans he came into contact with are basically politically ignorant. He gave me an example that two of his close associates did not think that it is wrong that PA or Town Council under PAP’s control refusal to let opposition party use the facilities is wrong. The reasoning given was that these “belong” to PAP and it is purely politics that PAP should not allow opposition parties to use these facilities.

    But when they were corrected that these facilities were built using taxpayers’ money and do not belong to PAP, they raised doubts about it!

    Such political ignorance is really deep rooted all thanks to PAP’s deliberate effort in blurring the lines between itself and PA. Opposition controlled TC is expected to allow PAP to use whatever premises in their town via “grassroot organization” like PA or RC or CCC. But PA has all rights to allow PAP to use its facilities for whatever activities disguised as “grassroot events” while opposition parties were banned from using its facilities by using the excuse of “PA’s premises should not be politicized”!

    And you may wonder how could well educated Singaporeans who are graduates or diploma holders, actually agree and even support such blatant abuse of tax payers’ money for partisan interests!

    The conclusion my friend has made, most Singaporeans are not “Politically Educated” and PAP is very happy to maintain such Political illiteracy for Singaporeans. This I will have to agree. Do our schools teach our students on what is Democracy? Rule of Law? Separation of Powers? Judiciary Independence? Freedom of Speech and Expression? Well, only on some “abstract Highfalutin” National Pledge which PAP didn’t even believe in nor respect!

    Desperate Father: Will My Son Ever Get A Place In Autism SPED School When Even My Own MP Cannot Help?

    NOT ASKING FOR THE MOON…Just A Place For My Son In Autism Sped School…!!!

    I rarely post on social media. But today is an exception. Today I can’t help but to post this.

    After much persuasion from my wife… today after work, I accompanied both my wife and son to Eden School / Eden Centres for Adults / Eden Children’s Centres / AAS for Autism, in hopes to plead for a slot this year for Nabil in there.

    After meeting with the in charge for enrollment, to our disappointment we were told that the earliest most possible intake for Nabil is next year in January 2018.

    He’s of a P2 age this year…it’s been 2 lengthy years already..how long more do you expect my son to wait… I can’t help feeling the negative vibes that Nabil is like not being considered for a place at all when being told to go and try for other sped schools or private schools…..this is easier said than done.

    It is beyond my understanding why distance between school and home is not being considered during a sped school enrollment just like how it is being applied in mainstream primary schools.

    Really could not comprehend the system how a student who resides in as far as pasir ris and tampines are prioritized and get a slot in Eden (Bt Batok) while we the apparent west residents (CCK) are left hanging precariously by the hook.

    We as parents are truly exhausted. Have tried numerous means of help…even to the extend of approaching the Member of Parliament of our area Mr Zaqy Mohamad in hopes to expedite the enrollment but till today..we have yet to receive even a reply from him regarding the matter regrettably.

    It is just emotionally tiring and draining to say the least…as a husband, seeing your wife shedding her tears helplessly in public as we step out of Eden School earlier on while hugging my son was the last straw for me!

    Seek help from Ministry of Education, Singapore you say?? How could we when in the first place, they couldn’t even help to issue a student ezlink card for Nabil just because he has yet to get enrolled into a school. Yes. My son all this while has been paying adult fare whenever he took the train since he turns 7. How justifying is this…?! You see how my son has been tossed back and forth all these while….

    The system got to change…someone has got to look into the cases which falls through the cracks…that’s where our unheard voices are being suppressed unfairly….?

    Please scrape me of my Singapore citizen if you want. I hate being Singaporean. So what Singaporean is a safe country.

    I prefer countries that are more human rights, freedom, free of speech than to safety.
