  • Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple Under Investigation Over Suspected Criminal Offences

Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple Under Investigation Over Suspected Criminal Offences

A police investigation has been launched into the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, one of the oldest Hindu temples in Singapore, over suspected criminal offences.  The police confirmed on Tuesday (Aug 22) that its Commercial Affairs Department is conducting the probe, but said it is “inappropriate” to comment further on the investigation.

The Commissioner of Charities (COC) said in a statement that it had been notified of the investigation and has also launched its own inquiry into the temple under section 8 of the Charities Act, which gives the commissioner the power to institute such inquiries into charities. The COC said it received feedback on the management of the temple, which led to it carrying out a review. “The review identified certain areas of concern with regard to governance and administration, which warrant conducting an inquiry,” it said.

The COC added that it will decide on the next course of action after the inquiry. In the meantime, religious activities will not be affected and the temple can continue with its operations and daily services, COC said, adding that measures will be put in place to ensure the temple is properly managed.  The temple at 141 Serangoon Road is a well-known landmark in the Little India area. According to its website, it is one of the oldest temples in Singapore and was built by early Indian migrant workers. The temple was set up as a trust and obtained charity status in 1988. As of Nov 20, 2016, its management committee comprised seven individuals, four of whom are trustees of the temple, according to the COC.

  • Owner Of Rumah Mengenal Al-Quran Jailed For Blasphemy

Owner Of Rumah Mengenal Al-Quran Jailed For Blasphemy

Siti Aisyah, the owner of an Islamic learning center, has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison for spreading “misguided” Islamic teachings. Siti was found guilty of violating Article 156 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on blasphemy.

The sentence handed down by the Mataram District Court in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is lighter than the prosecutor’s demand of three years’ imprisonment. Presiding judge Didiek Jatmiko said Siti had been proven guilty of spreading teachings that contravened Islamic principles.

Didiek said Siti did not admit her fault, insisting that what she taught did not go against the principles of Islam. Siti, who is the owner Rumah Mengenal Al-Quran (Home to learn Quran), had reportedly taught her followers that the Quran did not oblige Muslims to pray. She also reportedly rejected Al-Hadist (Prophet Muhammad’s words and attitudes) as a religious guideline.

  • Ingat Mati

    Ingat Mati

Siapa yang pernah ada kematian dalam family, akan faham sangat apa tu sebenarnya nasihat “ingat mati”.. Siapa yang pernah nampak the end to end process.. cara uruskan jenazah family members.. Siapa yang pernah nampak someone yang very much alive.. tiba2 kaku.. biru.. Try kejut si mati tu..

“Betul ke kau da mati? Betul ke.. takkan la.. kau muda lagi”

    Dia da takkan respond lagi.
    Badan dia da expired.
    Badan dia ni defective ke?
Muda nya da tak boleh pakai lagi..
Tutup mata.. and imagine hari terakhir kita pulal kat atas muka bumi ni..

    Kita semua akan mati..
Kita semua ada title bakal “jenazah”..
Kita semua bakal lepak kat pusara aman.. atau abadi..
15 years lepas tu, waris kita.. kalau ada..
Kalau takde.. someone akan gali kubur kita..
    Kumpulkan tulang2 kita..
And masukkan dalam liang lahad baru..

Apa ada pada kita masa tu?
    Nak kerek dengan kecantikan?
    Kerek ar..
Nak bangga dengan position, education, harta and pangkat..
Anak Sultan ke anak pengemis ke..
    Satu hari akan jadi tulang..

Kita hidup kat dunia mungkin paling lama pon 60 tahun. Orang sekarang da tak hidup lama.
Aku ngan kau ni, mungkin tak jumpa hari tua.
Mungkin tak jumpa pon hari esok..

Jangan biarkan urusan dunia ni tergantung..
    Maafkan salah orang pada kita..
    Hutang kasi settle..
    Jangan hurt orang..
    Biar orang buat kita..
Selalu present the best version of ourselves pada orang..
Konon2 ni la hari terakhir aku..
Ni yang terbaik aku dapat layan kau..

Kita ni roh yang berpakaian jasad..
Takde makna rupa and body yang cantik.. yang hot.. tergelek sana.. tergelek sini..
    Jadi idaman mana2 lelaki..
    Kalau dahi, hidung..
    Tapak tangan.. lutut..
    Dan jari2 kaki..
    Tak pernah sentuh tanah..
    Takde makna rambut ikal mayang..
Kalau taknak ikut perintah Allah untuk tutup.
    Takde makna anak2 yang ramai..
Kalau tak bagi didikan agama yang cukup..

Hari mati kita, anak2 sibuk update kat FB..
Konon rindu bila kita da takde..
Setakat rindu je nak buat apa..
    Aurat taknak tutup..
Berpelukan dengan boyfriend kat tanah kubur..
    Konon sedih.. rindu..

Makin lama.. makin kurang kepercayaan kita pada alam kubur..
    Dan alam akhirat..
    Makin lama.. makin tak kisah..
Jangan sampai hari mati kita, baru mata kita “terbukak”..
    Baru nak percaya..
    Rupanya betul benda2 ni semua..
    Allah tak tipu..
    Rasulullah SAW pon tak tipu..
Aku je yang selama ni tertipu..

  • Dropout’s Digital Hunch Turns Into A New Economy Success Story

Dropout’s Digital Hunch Turns Into A New Economy Success Story

Acting on a “hunch” about seven years ago that the digitalisation of retail was only a “matter of time”, Mr Syafiq Yussoff decided to give logistics a go and set up Riverwood with just two vans and four employees. Today, his company operates a fleet of more than 60 vehicles, such as trucks and vans, and has 160 to 180 workers on its books, including freelancers and about 50 full-time employees. It is also a logistics partner of Amazon’s recently launched “ultra-fast” Prime Now service in Singapore. Riverwood’s other clients over the years have included Singapore Post, logistics giant DHL and the digital arm of cosmetics retailer Sephora.

The 33-year-old entrepreneur and Riverwood were on Sunday (Aug 20) praised by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during his National Day Rally speech in Malay as one of many success stories in the new economy. Mr Syafiq struggled with school. He performed poorly in his O-Level exams, and dropped out of a mass communications diploma at a private institution halfway owing to financial difficulties. During National Service (NS), he attended night classes as part of a business studies diploma at PSB Academy, only to fail the final module in statistics.

Having been “very obese” until his teenage years, Mr Syafiq lost a significant amount of weight through nutrition and exercise, which he picked up while doing his own research.  He became more confident and wanted to do the same for others, so after NS, he signed up to be a personal trainer with California Fitness.  But after six years on the job, he wanted to do something new for “personal growth”. People were then starting to buy products online, and Mr Syafiq had a “hunch” that data and logistics would be on an upward trajectory.

Riverwood started in 2010 without an office — Mr Syafiq worked from his Tampines family home — partnering SingPost to manage some of its routes. Now, it has an office and warehouse of about 4,000 sq ft in Kaki Bukit. Despite his success, to ensure that he continues to understand the challenges his staff face on the ground and to telegraph to clients his firm’s “commitment”, he can still be seen joining his workers on delivery rounds “at the drop of a hat” if there is a backlog to clear, including most recently for Amazon Prime Now.  Technology has taken centre stage at Riverwood. In 2015, the company worked with an IT firm to build its own delivery management system to consolidate orders. At about the same time, it installed a Global Positioning System tracking capability on its fleet of vehicles. It is also looking to put in place a warehouse management system by early next year, after consulting Republic Polytechnic’s Centre of Innovation for Supply Chain Management on its options.
